The Chicago Firehouse Restaurant retained its charm with original tin ceilings, fire-glazed walls and brass poles.   • "Both of us ordered steak entrees. I ordered a bone in- rib eye, my wife a filet. They were terrible, not tender, gristle running through both steaks. We ate less than half of each, couldn't or wouldn't finish them! This was most disappointing. Our previous visits had been great. CFH is off our list of places to eat when in Chicago."

  • "We went on a busy Wednesday night. We waited about 10 minutes. The service was very good. Drinks and wine list were also above average. However, for the prices. It was a well below average food experience. I ordered the boneless ribeye, at $38 med rare. It was dry and a bit tough. It felt like it had been fired earlier and reheated. We also had the halibut special which was good. The short ribs were ovecooked. With all the terrific dining options, this falls way short of expectations."

  • "I ordered the CFH Pork Chop - it was described as:barbecue rub, braised napa cabbage, green apple, sweet potato purée, dried cherry sauce. Well I received the pork chop. BUT the rest of the dish. NOPE I received something that tasted good, but looked like risotto with large chunks of ham; some carrots and maybe cooked in some kind of broth. The rolls we received were so tough that nobody at our table could eat one. HEADS UP CFH when you nuke bread it gets tough and rubbery. Better to just buy the correct warmer for it. This is the second time I had the experience with the bread being inedible. I didn't complain because I was there on business and didn't want to make a scene. Very disappointed, Very!!"

  • "Richly decorated space in a great building in a convenient location (for Southsiders). Friendly hosts treated people in suits and jeans equally warmly. Professional and knowledgeable waiters. The food was clearly a notch or two below the leading Loop/Gold Coast steakhouses. That would be okay except the prices were equal or higher than Gibson's and Chicago Cut."

  • "We arrived at the Restaurant @ 5:15 p.m. party of 2. We sat at a table. The restaurant was not crowded at all. Of course the hostess sat two gentlemen right next to our table while the restaurant was completely empty!! The two guys moved their table over a bit since nobody was sitting on the other side of them. Five minutes later the same hostess seats a couple to the left of us. The seating in this restaurant is sorta close quarters. We ordered Calamari & drinks. After one glass of wine, I was informed that selection was gone. After having the close quarters of people around us plus not happy with the salad, we decided not to order dinner. Not happy considering it was a 50th Birthday Celebration Dinner! Would not recommend this place."

  • "Chicago Firehouse has been a restaurant I have been meaning to try for awhile. Finally made it there and it did not disappoint. Great service. Specials were a great selection and the 2 we selected were delicious. Had the filet flight which was perfectly cooked and let you enjoy 3 different preparations of the filet. The gnocchi was top notch. Ended the night with a sinful apple tart. A little loud but great experience. Enjoy!"

  • "I have gone to Firehouse a number of times and have generally always enjoyed it. The service is very good and attentive but not overbearing. My "argument" is with the wine list, by the glass. They keep their reds too warm and after not finding one I liked (they did allow me to taste a few of them before commiting, which was very helpful), the alternative Chardonnay was no longer available and had been replaced with a far inferior option. This wasn't enough to ruin the dinner, which was very tasty, but it did limit the upside."

  • "I took my mother to brunch here on a Sunday morning. Nobody was there except us at 10am. I think it was the cool weather outside. Loved the wee donut-like pastries and mini scones we received before our order came. Coffee was great. I ordered the french toast, which was very good. I would definitely come back. This was a Sunday evening which I thought would be quiet and not busy but the restaurant was fairly crowded and there was a high level of noise. Not too bad, but noticeable: large crowds at nearby tables having fun. Will go again if I am back in Chicago."

My steaks was perfect , restaurant was very nice also the bathrooms needed to be cleaned. FYI the restaurant is pricey but the service was excellent!"

  • "As our server recommended, the majority of what we ordered lived up to her description of "amazing!!" We had the pork chops, kids' mac-n-cheese, and NY strip with lobster, au gratin potatoes and brussel sprouts. Loved the flavors, did not enjoy the lobster. Did not know/was not asked a preference for preparation; they grilled it and portions of it were tough. I prefer steamed. The dessert that we had was misleadingly titled "chocolate cake." It was anything but simple! It was incredibly light and flavorful and not a traditional hunk of too-rich chocolate. Overall, the meal, atmosphere and service were delightful. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. And liked hearing the history of the building and exploring each floor of the restaurant."

  • "We loved the service. We had to move our reservations up to an earlier time, they warned us that they were booked for the next 2 hours. However, they were able to accommodate us after a short (10-15 min) wait. We were celebrating our 1st anniversary and couldn't have picked a better place for service, food & atmosphere. They even sent out a special dessert for the occasion. Will definitely go back again."

  • "The food was amazing, but when we showed up for our reservation they made us wait over 20 minutes and sat 4 of us at a table for 2, while single couples were next to us sitting in booths made for 4. We found that a little odd, and considering how much we were paying for our food we would have rather been more comfortable. Despite that we had a great time! Lobster bisque was amazing, as well as the steak flight they had (may have been a special for Valentine's Day), and triple chocolate mouse cake. Beautiful venue, very cool, because it was an old firehouse, but just would have preferred better service. Honestly they made us feel like they didn't have to treat us nice, because the reputation was good. That's not a very good philosophy! :)"

  • "Thought the atmosphere would be different but it was a bit stuffy! Great service, food was just okay nothing fancy. Make sure you specify which coffee you want because the 5 alarm has alcohol if you like Baileys. I just wanted a regular cup of joe. More family oriented restaurant where as I expected fun, exciting, more upbeat considering its an old firehouse. Disappointed!"

  • "Took my wife here for Valentine's Day, (day b4, actually). Right off I must say that everything was excellent, food, service, ambiance & value. We were surprised to learn they still honored the restaurant week menu. We had two boneless ribeyes, both prepared exactly right & were delicious. I had lobster bisque, which I had had before ( & will again), and she had cream of mushroom. Both were outstanding. We shared a side of au gratin potatoes, most of which we took home because the steaks were big, and I highly recommend them She had crème brulee and I had chocolate mouse cake and again, they were great. Our waiter was friendly, helpful and attentive, couldn't have been better. Can't think of something that could have been improved"

Our bread was rock hard, we ordered banana foster for dessert and it was just melted ice cream. Our server only checked on us once. We do love the good but this kinda ruined our dinner and attitude toward place."

  • "The feel and ambience are wonderful and the service from the first step in the building was fantastic. Haven't visited this place in a few years, but both of us agreed the food doesn't match up with the other top notch steak places in Chicago. I would rather spend $250+ (with drinks) for a date night at Carmichaels, Gibson, etc. As for the décor - it is definitely classy but looking dated. Love the historic feel, the lighting is great, but I think they could use more home-like touches on the walls and the assorted ledges. In addition, the chairs were aged and uncomfortable after two hours of enjoying the partner's company and our table had two plates under it to keep it level."
