We had a group of ten. This hotel was one that I was able to make reservation at with possibility I might have to cancel, add a few guests or subtract a few, and nto risk a penalty. We had a group of ten. Servce was excellent - friendly and accomodating. Food was very good. I had lamb chops, cut was great, and flavor awesome. Wine list was not that extensive, but compared to other neighboring Italian restaurants, better priced.

We had a party of 4. We waited at least 15 minutes for a waiter to arrive. The drinks and wine were good. The Caesar Salad was very good. My wife & I shared spaghetti & meatballs. The meatballs were dry and the sauce had little taste. Our friends shared lasagna and they said it was good.

  • Avoid Restaurant Week

My girlfriend and I went there for restaurant week. $35 for an app, main, and desert. According to the normal menu even the most expensive app and main options still come in under $30, so unless the tiny deserts cost $10+ they're probably actually ripping you off. On top of that our waiter was terrible. He payed way more attention to the other tables around us and seemed to avoid all eye contact at the end of our meal so I couldn't wave him over to get the check. The food was pretty good but definitely not worth the $100+ I payed for the 2 meals and 2 glasses of wine (plus tax and tip). Don't think I'll be back anytime soon.

There are few Lunch selections on the menu and for just a lunch, the food is not that good, and the prices are extremely high. I wouldn't recommend this place for lunch. I also had a restaurant certificate that they advertised online and then they wouldn't take it. They canceled them without any notice so I had to pay the full amount plus the 18% gratuity that they include on the check. Also the waiter was rude, he only took the order and then never came back to provide any service.

We were waited on by an older gentleman. He provided the poorest service my friend and I have had in San Diego. He never put our drink order in, he came back to double checked our order then still got the appetizer wrong. We had to ask twice for the bill which we got 30 minutes later, and the only time he was attentive to us is when he stood over us talking as we were suppose to be filling out the tip, it was uncomfortable at that point. Food was good, but he ruined the whole dinning experience. Thankful the Manager was great about coming around fixing his mistakes.

I don't have one concern about Chianti. My husband and I came on Comic-Con Saturday at 5:45 PM and was seated quickly, served quickly and the food was amazing. Check in on Yelp for a free Tiramisu dessert, which didn't disappoint. Our dinner consisted of two red wines, salad, lobster ravioli and tortellini, and the tiramisu. Would return in a heartbeat. Nice bar, nice seating.

Arrived early for a reservation, sat at the bar for a drink then sat at a table outside, hostess was very nice. Sat at the table and was greeted by our server, we ordered fried calamari to start and continued looking at the menu, he told us the specials and we said we would be ready shortly. Calamari came, we ordered, our waiter then pretty much disappeared the rest of the night until it was time to bring the check. Now I have been in the biz for quite a long time so I know all about the duties of busboys and food runners but this was ridiculous, we couldn't even get a drink. Calamari and arugala salad were good pasta was mediocre...used jarred roasted peppers. Tipped the busboy cash b/c he is the one that deserved it.

We had made a reservation for the patio and said we would have our dog with us. We had been here prior with our dog but when we arrived we were told that our dog had to be outside the fence. The manager tried to tell us that it was a health law which is not true as many places let dogs on patios. It's fine if they don't want them but don't lie to me. Think they could have called to say they changed their policy on dogs. They did finally let us dine with her at our side as we would not put her outside the fence. The food was very good but we were made to feel uncomfortable. When we got up to leave the people at the next table were surprised to see the dog as she is well behaved. So we will not be returning to this restaurant.

We came here to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday two years ago and it was great, so we decided to return for the same occasion this year. However, this year we were a little disappointed. Two years ago, we had the lobster ravioli and a seared ahi tuna dish. Both were impeccable. This year, the ahi tuna dish was off the menu. We shared the swordfish with potatoes and seasonal vegetables and the cannoli with veal, ricotta, and spinach. The veal dish was very good, although I wish it had a bit more spinach. The swordfish was good, but it was a little overdone and lacked seasoning. I never add salt to my dishes and this time I had to. Overall, it's a nice location in downtown, but it was aa lacking compared to a few years ago. Maybe next year?

My mother and I were the first to arrive after they opened. We chose to sit in the front corner, with a view of downtown out the window. It hadn't gotten too busy, and service was not great but not terrible. The food was delicious!! The initial bread that was served before our courses was great, made in-house and very yummy. My lasagna was delicious also.

The astmosphere on the Gaslamp District was noisy and busy, but step into Chianti Restaurant and the atmosphere was much quieter and inviting. Loved the environment and the excellent service. Unbelievably great food. We had the Cannolli's stuffed with the ground veal, spinach, and cheese. The pasta was fresh and the pink sauce was excellent. The bread was hot and fresh out of the oven. We took business associates there for dinner and they found all of the experience to be tremendous. We will recommend this restaurant with 10 stars out of 10.

Had a nice time at lunch. Had the mixed cheese and meat board to share as well as the antipasto. Very good. Used a little more olive oil than I thought necessary, but was delicious anyway. Wife had a panini (can't remember which one); was good as well. Salad that came with panini wasn't so good. Not a main course by any means, but seemed strange to have olive oil on the salad. Overall a good lunch.

Went for dinner on Saturday night at 8:30 with 7 people. Was not overly packed as it was a later reservation. We were seated in the back of the restaurant, where it was extremely hot (~85 degrees) right under an air conditioner that didn't work. Waiter came around once to take our order and then never came back. He was around at other tables, just chose not to come to ours. The only person who came by more than once was the water guy, which thank goodness for him because we weren't getting served another drinks. Unfortunately, the 18% tip was already added as they deserved much less. The food was mediocre at best, smaller portion sizes. Much better Italian food in Little Italy which is just a walk away, so avoid this place if possible.

We like to go to Chianti for spacial occasions! The food and the wine have always been good, we have tried many items on the menu from the sea food pasta to the chicken piccata and all have been good. On our last trip the waiter did mess up the order but fixed all with no questions. We would recommend a table outside to get the real atmosphere of the Gaslamp quarter.

We went for Christmas dinner and the place is completely a mess. The service was horrible - slow and forgetful. The food was worse than Olive Garden. Just to name a few items we ordered... swordfish special was over cooked, prawn pasta was bland, and bread was hard. The tables were too close together... You can hear your neighbors conversation. Lastly, it's way over priced! You can find better Italian restaurants elsewhere in San Diego. It was just an awful experience! I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Went here for Christmas dinner. And the restaurant was definitely not prepared for the number of people. Though it appeared to me that almost had reservations. We sat right by the host table so I could hear all of the impatient customers. No one saw us for almost fifteen minutes after being sat and that's because the manager came by to ask us how everything was and took out order. We finally got out food and never saw another server again. No one even asked how the food was. my fathers was almost in edible it was so spicy. It could've probably been fixed with some Parmesan on top but we were never offered that. Took almost half an hour to get the bill and actually pay it.

We enjoyed our evening out at Chianti. The wait staff was excellent, and attended to our needs without being over bearing. This restaurant is listed as Italian, and as a Seafood restaurant. There was less seafood offered than I would have liked. I was looking forward to spaghetti with clams. Alas, it was not on the menu. Perhaps clams are out of season in December? The antipasto misto was excellent. I especially liked the marinated vegetables. I had the fettuccine pescadoro and my husband had the veal scallopini. He was pleased to find the veal not breaded.

Family with teenagers in San Diego for soccer tournament & spent thanksgiving day driving to SD. Was very thankful-literally- for open table reservations and a restaurant that served traditional Thanksgiving dinner with an Italian twist. The pumpkin ravioli with Gorgonzola cream sauce was delicious as was the roasted turkey with roasted sweet potatoes & dressing which were good as well. The 3 course meal included a glass of wine & dessert-pumpkin tiramisu was a wonderful way to end the meal. We highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion. The service was very good, too. Always appreciate when the manager checks in on his/her tables.
