Diner Reviews
  • "Overall, our dinner was very good and the service was genuine. The eggplant appetizer is delicious. The Caesar salad is light, if you don't like much of an anchovy flavor. The chicken is really good, but the ravioli disappointed (says "made fresh"....the filling, yes. The pasta dough, no.). We have eaten there once before and the food, in general, is consistent and worth the price."

  • "We have been there 4 times and the food is great, the service is good, albeit too busy. I recommend it to all my friends."

  • "Always a great restaurant and in my neighborhood. Had purchased coupon from Chianti website--waitperson very accommodating with use of it. Continuing complaint with Chianti is the noise level--it is getting worse. Recommend turning OFF the music completely. Always ask waitperson to have music turned down--usually told that it is turned down to an appropriate level, but it is still TOO loud which results in everyone talking above it, which only increase noise level. Becoming deterent to coming to this restaurant when I want to have a dinner and conversation with friends--its almost impossible to hear them, especially when restaurant is full of patrons. Otherwise, service and food always dependable to be very good."

  • "Our dinner date was pleasant, our water person should smile more, but he was efficient. Our server seemed like she should have worked at Apple bee's instead of a finer restaurant. The restaurant ceiling seemed to showed signs of water leak and black dirt around the vents. That should be cleaned up. It does look good for customers. I would still come here for a good meal. I don't see the owner anymore (Strange)."

  • "After 15 years of living locally, I finally went and thought it was the best Italian food in the county. The Calabrese Calamari appetizer is a must-try. We had the seafood pasta and veal - both were delicious! I'll be back for more!"

  • "We had a very good dinner here. Went because of a groupon, but will be back for the food and ambiance. There was, unfortunately, a very large and overly loud group in the bar that at times was overpowering, but love the fireplace and coziness of the location."

  • "I really like to go to Chianti's for happy hour or a simple night out with my husband. However, we have gone with another couple 3 times and it's too noisy in the restaurant to hear each other talk. The food is consistently good. I highly recommend sharing the Calamari Fritti as a starter. I enjoy the Insalata Romana that comes topped with gorganzola cheese and sun dried tomatoes. Their House made ravioli of ricotta & spinach remains my favorite dish. My husband loves their Lasagna Bolognese and Gnocchi. I tried the minestrone soup for the first time - big thumbs up! I always enjoy a glass of St Francis Merlot. My husband wishes they would expand the beer selection to include an IPA. Overall, nice place to go."

  • "My first time at Chianti and we had great service and the food was delicious. We had the shrimp risotto and shrimp ghamberi. So close to home that I will definitely go again."

  • "We bought a groupon and thought we'd give Chianti a try. We went on a Friday night and the restaurant was very busy. The service was a bit slow probably due to how busy they were. Food was ok, but nothing impressive. The biggist issue we had was that the restaurant was so loud we had to yell at one another to be heard. Additionally, we were sitting next to a large group who were also yelling to be heard --- made for a challenging situation. For us, the noise level was so high it would not be worth it to return, at least during a busy period. Might try this place for lunch to see if it's any better."

  • "One of the best Italian food restaurant left in Novato, very friendly staff, the bar just small when place is busy, since they use it to dine and if you are waiting for a table there is no place where to have a drink, but after I eat their food I do not care anymore."

  • "The menu has a great variety, all of which is delicious. The salmon was perfect, the sauce on the the pasta was full of flavor, and the salads are fresh and crunchy. The service is attentive and the staff knows the menu and wine list well. Great little neighborhood spot!"

  • "We keep coming back to Chianti Cucina because we always have a great meal here. On our last visit I ordered the special ciioppino and it was delicious; perfectly cooked fresh seafood in a tasty tomato sauce with grilled French bread to soak up every last drop of the sauce. The service is friendly and efficient, the atmosphere inviting.. We find that we can't just walk in any more; it is always busy and a reservation is a must, especially on weekends."

  • "We arrived for an early dinner - the hostess and our server in particular were delightful and very attentive. It certainly is loud, but that is to be expected in such a small space. Wine: I had the house red and it was pretty terrible - very sour and flat, as though watered down. The appetizers were tolerable, the bruschetta was especially nice. I had a chicken dish (the piccata) and although the sauce was quite good, the chicken itself tasted a bit off, as though it had been thawed in a hurry. My companion had a sausage and pasta dish (a treat for him, since he's given up pasta at home) and it went down like a brick. Certainly the highlight of the night were the desserts - the bread pudding, especially, but skip the caramel sauce."

  • "Over all fairly good food but nothing to write home about. Just typical standard and good tasting Italian food. Pizza was not very good but the lasagna was great. For Novato I thought it was a bit expensive and Grazei down the street offered same or better quality food for about 30% less. Feels like spinister heaven when you are there."

  • "Another nice evening with homemade pasta and dessert. It can get very loud and hard to hear your conversation when the restaurant is full during peak times. We will continue to support this local restaurant because the food and service are great."

  • "My husband and I love this little restaurant where I enjoy a variety of specials and regular dishes, and he always gets the same favorite thing…..can't remember what it's called, but it's a pasta with spinach and spicy sausage."

  • "Chianti Cucina is very warm and inviting with an excellent Italian menu. The food is always outstanding as well as the service and ambiance. Great for older children, also a nice place for a family gathering or romantic meal. The set up of the restaurant lends itself to a variety of options for dining experience. The beautiful fireplace is especially nice in winter."

  • "great food, lively atmosphere, generous portions, nice wines......nothing bad to say!!! Not exciting in terms of decor, but the food is solid and always good!"

  • "Food was okay...we each got different meats...salmon, calamari and chicken, but they all had the same sauce, a rich creamy caper sauce so they all tasted alike. Also found it odd the dishes came with mashed potatoes, would have liked a side of pasta as it is an Italian restaurant."

  • "Haven't been here for awhile though, the food has always been good along with good service. Our waitperson was nice however, she would come by the table to check on us but, would only slow down for a nano-second and didn't really give that little extra to be considered "great service". Overall, one of the best places in Novato."

  • "There are no stellar restaurants in Novato, but Chianti Cucina is one of the most reliable. Pasta and risotto ares good, there are some decent wines by the glass, fish is usually not overcooked and the veal is not inedible. There's a happy vibe and the place is bustling on weekend evenings."

  • "Four of us dined here on Friday the 10th. It was a luncheon and we made reservations for 1:45PM. We have been here before but this time we were the only ones in the restaurant for lunch at that hour. The lack of patrons did not diminish the quality of the food nor the level of service, although I'm sure the management would have liked to have more patrons. Since we were the only diners, the noise level was minimum and not like we had experienced before when we dined here in the early evening."

  • "We had a coupon to try Chianti and I'm glad we did. I might not have tried this place without one and that would have been my loss. We ate here with friends on a Tuesday night and had a great time. I would be sure to make reservations (we did) as all the tables were full. We were seated right on time by the fireplace, so nice. A little noisy at 7 pm but as people left it became more quiet and and even more enjoyable. Everyone was very nice and the food was great. I would defiantly come back and am looking forward to doing so. Thanks for a nice evening."

  • "A busy Christmas eve and it was loud sitting next to the kitchen. Request a quiet table in the main dining room if you want to have a conversation and it might be a little better. Food was as we expected...not a "Wow" but very tasty Italian."
