Diner Reviews
  • "I have eaten here quite a few times. This time, probably because it was Saturday 6:30PM, it was so crowded and noise level was so high. Took 12 min for the waitress to acknowledge us. She never returned to see if our food was OK, or if we needed anything else. Was hoping for an evening to get caught up with my girlfriend, but we could barely hear each other. I will return, but not on a weekend night. Good to see their business is booming."

  • "As my wife and I walked in, we were met with low lighting, happy conversation, the scent of garlic and wine filling our nostrils, and an intimate setting for a special occasion. Although the service was slower in coming than I was accustomed to, our waitress was pleasant, though not entirely attentive. The lamb was succulent and balanced, with potatoes and vegetables which were softly seasoned, simple and delicious. My wife had seafood pasta, a decent meal, but the shrimp were tougher than they ought to be, possibly frozen, but certainly leaving something to be desired."

  • "Hard to find good Italian food in Novato. Authentic, consistent menu and good variety. This place is the best option after Aurora. Better ambiance than Aurora. Ask for Oscar if you want excellent service."

  • "Horrible service. My child and I were ignored the whole time even though we were the only patrons. Food was tasteless and took forever."

  • "Yet again another wonderful meal at Chianti Cucina. Excellent servers serving excellent food. A bit on the noisy side but ignore that and every thing else is above par. There is not one employee that isn't pleasant a real treat to see how well everyone works together."

  • "Two starts for it being fair. First waitress never told us what the specials were. We had made out decisions only to find out there were about 4 or 5 other specials of the day. Mussels for an appetizer... sauce had way to much citrus juice in it which was pretty good but the mussells were either very old or had been frozen for a very long time. The rib eye was good , cooked very well but not worth what it costed. The fish of the day... Snapper... straight out of a frozen bag from Costco no kidding!! Other than that second waitress who took care of us was very friendly and inviting."

  • "This was our first time at Chianti Cucina but it will most definitely NOT be our last. We came with my 94-year-old Dad to celebrate my son's birthday. My Dad walks w/a walker and the staff at Chianti Cucina did everything they could to accommodate us. We had the Fish of the Day - Halibut, served over a fresh corn & pepper side - the fish prepared perfectly. My dad had the medallions of veal w/provolone & prosciutto; my son had Chianti's Shrimp dish. We were all delighted with our food - fresh, complex and platted wonderfully. Looking forward to our next dinner at Chianti Cucina."

  • "Chianti Cucina is a delightful place and could be as successful in San Francisco as it is in suburban Novato. Jammed full midweek, our server was very pleasant and capable. The food was excellent (oh that pork chop...yum). Our only complaint was the noise level. Across a table for four we couldn't even hear each other. Ah success...sometimes it brings with it challenges like this. But worth it."

  • "Family enjoyed Sunday dinner. Despite what I perceived as a shortage in Staff that evening, the four that were there, including the hostess, did a great job of tending to our needs in what was a busy evening. Food was fantastic! Everyone enjoyed their entree topped off by their tasty dessert. Overall, a wonderful experience. "

  • "We found the food to taste marvelous. The presentation was wonderful. We split a beet salad with gorgonzola and enjoyed every fork full. The seafood raviolis were spectacular as was the halibut special of the day. The service was excellent. We didn't want for anything. Looking forward to visiting again."

  • "First off, we were using a Groupon and have had a bad experience before at another restaurant. So I was a little nervous how we were going to be treated. Our waitress was Mikala. I showed her our coupon and she was so nice! First off she offered us the free wine and since I don't drink wine she gave me a choice of anything else. We started with Crustini's with Brie and prosciotto. So good! We fell in love with their dipping oil. I had the cappelini and my husband had the lasagna. The food was served piping hot. Mikala even brought us a bigger bowl of the dipping oil, we were crazy about it! For dessert I had the cream puffs and my husband had bread pudding. We couldn't have had a better experience. We will be back! The Katzners"

  • "We went here for the first time for our anniversary, hoping for a somewhat romantic Italian dinner. The food was good, and the portions generous (the fried Calamari was very good, and plentiful). But the tables are too close together and it's VERY noisy for a neighborhood Italian restaurant. Our waiter was not very attentive and not at all friendly. So like a lot of the other reviews said, the food was good but the atmosphere was lacking. "

  • "Our dinner was great but the table were too close. The couple next to us were talking so loud it was hard for us to have a decent dinner conversation. Granted she had too much to drink but her voice was very loud and obnoxious. I do lie the food and we will be back."

  • "I brought friends and they all enjoyed their meals. I had the grilled salmon salad - salmon cooked to perfection and ample portion. The special spread for bread is superb!"

  • "4 of us were on our way to the airport for a vacation in the D.R. and stopped for lunch as we drove through Novato. My wife bought a dinner through groupon which was a great deal. All of us enjoyed the meal and great service. Will return when we travel south again."

  • "We visit the Novato area a couple of time a year and decided that this time we wanted to try somewhere new for dinner. After reading the reviews about Chianti Cucina, we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed! The food was amazing and the portions were generous! The service was spectacular from the moment we opened the door. The ambiance was very nice. It's like a small house, fireplace and all and just a little off the beaten path of busy downtown Novato on a Saturday nite. I would highly recommend this restaurant for the food, atmosphere and service. The prices are also quite reasonable for such awesome food and service! This will be our "go-to" place for our Novato area visits for sure!"

  • "We had went for a light dinner and were so pleased with the service (Alexis) and food that we can't wait to go back. Our server made very helpful recommendations and the seafood pasta and spinach salad were perfect choices and were each incredible. The service was outstanding. "

  • "This is our Friday night dinner place. Love their food it is always good regardless of what you order. Small but nice wine list. Only thing is the noise level is very high. Recommend to make a reservation because they are always busy. "

  • "Another great meal at our favorite neighborhood restaurant. Calamari and caesar salad (with anchovies!) to start, followed by an entree that, while not on the menu, the chef seems always willing to prepare...Chicken Parmagiana, served with mash potatoes and sautéed vegetables, this dish always satisfies. My dining companions raved about the Cioppino, and the Pasta Pesto. And we're partial to the Colosi Nero D'avola, a Sicilian wine on their wine list that is reasonably priced ($38) and a perfect match to italian dishes we feasted on. "

  • "We had a wonderful dinner here...charming little place....with a nice homey, friendly atmosphere. Our food was delicious! We both had fish served with mashed potatoes and vegies. Everything was good. We split a Caesar salad...could have had a little less dressing..but it was yummy as well. Biggest drawback is the noise level. Music was a little loud and it was eventually turned off. The ceilings are low and voices reverberate right back down at you. Great to go for the food and fun, but probably not the best for anyone who struggles with hearing aids. We followed dinner with comedy night at Trek Winery--Chianti Cucina beforehand was absolutely a great pick! We will do it again!"

  • "Overall, our dinner was very good and the service was genuine. The eggplant appetizer is delicious. The Caesar salad is light, if you don't like much of an anchovy flavor. The chicken is really good, but the ravioli disappointed (says "made fresh"....the filling, yes. The pasta dough, no.). We have eaten there once before and the food, in general, is consistent and worth the price."

  • "Always a great restaurant and in my neighborhood. Had purchased coupon from Chianti website--waitperson very accommodating with use of it. Continuing complaint with Chianti is the noise level--it is getting worse. Recommend turning OFF the music completely. Always ask waitperson to have music turned down--usually told that it is turned down to an appropriate level, but it is still TOO loud which results in everyone talking above it, which only increase noise level. Becoming deterent to coming to this restaurant when I want to have a dinner and conversation with friends--its almost impossible to hear them, especially when restaurant is full of patrons. Otherwise, service and food always dependable to be very good."
