A word from Chianina Steakhouse
Chianina Steakhouse is the new jewel from the Michael's Restaurant group (Selected by Zagat as the #1 Fine dining Italian Restaurant and the # 1 pizzeria in Los Angeles).
Located just two blocks south from Michael's on Naples on 2nd St. in Long Beach, Chianina set itself apart from the rest of the steakhouses by bringing their own cattle from Italy, and continuing with our commitment to the farm to table concept, makes this restaurant, one of a kind, and one which must be checked out.

The food was ok, we had a party of seven and not everyone was happy with the food. One person ordered the chicken and it was under cooked, another person ordered the grouper and that too was under cooked. The filets were good, the lamb was fatty and we ordered three different deserts and they really had no flavor . I rate the food a three and the service a five. Over priced for the quality, our bill was almost $600.00.

I get it now that they have special cows raised just for them and the opportunity to get a steak from this is limited! But when you sit down and they jump all over you to commit to one of the last pieces of steak left with the 30 others all crossed out SOLD you go from having a good time at dining to thinking you are on the used car lot. The food and service were good and the price extreme. Bucket list item...CHECK!

We went to Chianina to celebrate my wife's birthday, along with our 2 sons and their wives. It could not have been nicer. The food was outstanding, the service was attentive and helpful without being over attentive, and the ambience is very classy. We are looking forward to our next visit.

Loved this restaurant! Great modern twist to a steakhouse, service was impeccable! Unfortunately they were out of Chianina beef, however our dinner did not disappoint, the New York steak was delicious. We loved the corn risotto with pancetta as well as the gnocchi, they were both amazing. Can't wait to go back!

Steak was one of the best we've ever eaten, "ate the whole thing". Tongue appetizer delicious, shrimp apetizer so so (not worth $).Our server was Jacob and he needs more training he made us feel rushed and they brought us our apetizers before we got our white wine? There timing was really poor. Vegetables overcooked? This is an expensive place and unless they get the KINKS worked out quickly?? The prices make it doubtful if we'll go back.

I had been waiting since they opened for this day. The night they would finally served their privately raised Italian cattle, Chianina. I have had Bistecca Florentine in Florence Italy at Antinori's Cantinetta, and this did not disappoint. We ordered the 38 oz Bistecca (Porterhouse) for three to share, when they brought it to the table I thought it was so thick they couldn't possibly get it hot in the center. My mistake, The steak was cooked perfectly!! The kitchen did a great job of keeping the steaks hot all the way through and cooked to a beautiful medium. This cattle is raised by a gentlemen in Washington and he takes great pride and care in preparing his beef. This is only around for a limited time each month, make reservations now!

Our second time there and we can't wait for our third, even though we live near Pasadena. It is worth the drive to experience well-sourced and wonderfully prepared food. The manager, Alejandro, is very friendly and suggested an Amapola zinfandel for our steaks - a terrific pairing and one of the less expensive wines. From start to finish, our meals were perfect.

Here are the pluses and minuses. First course: Pork Belly with peaches over pearl couscous, amazingly flavorful, A plus, Iceberg salad, perhaps the worst tasting blue cheese dressing I have had in a restaurant, overly tart off taste very poor balance of agcid, cream, salt and cheese, very nicely presented so a C instead of F. Main courses: The Piedmonte Steak (New York Cut) $50.00, excellent flavor, very tender perfectly cooked A plus, Roasted chicken vastly oversalted, B minus, Linguini with Clams, overly fishy tasing ? clams not as fresh as the pasta, B minus. Sides: Potato Gratin, undercooked, solid C, Creamed spinich, watery, C+. The ugly part was the bill, just too expensive for the inconsistent quality of the food.

I was prepared for expensive, but I was not prepared for the prices they were asking - $50 for a New York steak was about $10 too much. The pork chop I had was cooked to perfection and tasted great. The Yukon Gratin potatoes were a little undercooked. My wife's clams were great, but she complained to me the vegetables she received were of the standard fare found in cheaper restaurants. When we got the bill we were charged for two soups. We did not order soup and were surprised when a waiter set two small cups (of about 1 Tbs each) in front of us, announcing that these were called "Lil Surprise" and were provided for our tasting. After seeing them on the bill, I double-checked to see if we were also charged for the water or the rolls.

The food, especially the ribeye steak, was outstanding. Although we had a very nice time, I can't say that I was impressed with the space, ambiance and service. We spent a LOT of money at the restaurant and I would have expected top notch service. Unfortunately, we were often searching for our server, or left wondering when our drinks/food would arrive. When our appetizer did finally arrive, it was the wrong item! The inexperienced young kid (not our server) who brought us the app questioned us multiple times about whether we were "sure we didn't order the appetizer" he placed in front of us. He proceeded with "um, well let me check with your server, because this what it states here." Don't argue with the customer, kid!

Chianina's showed up on a Gayot review of "Best Steakhouses in Los Angeles/South Bay." Took a chance and booked a reservation for our 28th anniversary - we were not disappointed! The ambiance is contemporary, modern, but nicely understated. Steak prices rival those of better known places such as 555, Morton's and Flemings, but you will not be disappointed as the meat is excellent. Great sauces offered at no additional cost. Everything is a la carte, but they are happy to split salads. Sides were excellent. Don't miss the mushroom medley, it is FANTASTIC. The general manager stopped by to wish us a happy anniversary and present us with a customized dessert of creme brulee with "happy anniversary" written on the side of the plate.

Our expectations were very high given the fanfare for the place on the net. The place did not have that warm, inviting vibe. It seemed cold and almost industrial(bordering on soul less). The Wine list was not that impressive and the choices seemed very limited. Food was very expensive for what we got and I have literally had better beef at Argentine BBQ joints for 1/4 of the price. We wanted to like the place, but just could not convince ourselves that it was worth coming back to. Curiosity has been satisfied and we can now move on to other known establishments in the area that do provide a far better bang for the buck.

We enjoyed our visit to Chianina. The Piedmontese Beef was very good. Steak broiled as ordered. Excellent side dishes, including a few variations on potato dishes. We went on a Sunday night and our wives took advantage of an excellent Prix Fix offering that was a great value. This night the main course was Pork Chops. All in all an excellent experience. Service was also first rate. We ,of course, expected great service and great food befitting an establishment affiliated with Michael's. We were not disappointed. We would return.

Took my wife for our five year anniversary, and it was a perfect place for a special occasion. The cocktail program is excellent, and they even have more rare classics, like calvados. The gratin was phenomenal, the marrow was succulent, the gnocchi was superb. I love that they properly spice their steaks, and that the quality really shows. The molten chocolate cake was the perfect mix of caramelized sugars, coffee, and bitter chocolate. Tip: The steaks of the piedmont are much more lean than traditional American Prime... so it is better to eat them at a temperature level lower than what you would typically order (medium rare instead of medium, for instance). Delicious.

A small group, anxious to try this landmark restaurant site (Kelly's), were not to experience a steak house. But rather an Angels Envy Cocktail Dinner for June 24, 2014. A nepotistic crowd who were not accommodating to first time diners. A night if misguided offerings; of Culinary highs & tasteless lows coupled with marginal service, long waits between four courses, and no beef. It was disappointing as this event was not listed on Open Table; Yelp; or Dining Rewards. It was expensive. And it is not a turn off.

I am not a regular review writer, but our evening at Chianina was exceptional, I feel the restaurant should get some sort of recognition. Our group of six favors steakhouses and Chianina has been on our radar since opening. We were very warmly greeted, seated promptly and the excellent service continued through the entire meal. We started with four appetizers, including the bone marrow, pork belly, scallops and Kauai shrimp. All were outstanding, but the portion sizes were small and our group likes to share, so it was a bit difficult. My wife and I had the rib-eye for 2, more than ample in size and perfectly cooked medium rare. It exceeded our expectations, which sounds funny for a high-end steakhouse. Desserts were also outstanding.

This was our second visit and once again we were impressed by and pleased with the food, service and environment. On a Wednesday evening we enjoyed a delicious leisurely meal with friends. We especially like the ability to hear our conversation without competing with music or the next table. The food was outstanding - the sides, the pork chop, the salmon, the scallops, the steak were all excellent. Our single issue is the limited selection of wines priced at less than $100 per bottle.

The appetizer was fantastic (Diver Scallops), the steak was very good, but the potato dish was mediocre. I was a little annoyed at the server, I asked him what steak he recommended, and of course it was one of the most expensive steaks on the menu. I asked him why he recommended that steak, and he just stumbled on the answer. There wasn't really an answer, he just said that it was great. I asked him what the difference between the Piedmontese beef, and the Prime beef. His only answer was the Piedmontese beef was grass fed.

After a hectic graduation season, my husband and I, learning that we would be at our home at the beach, went to open table to book our reservation. The only time that was available was 5. We have dined here since the day after it opened, through the ups and downs. We arrived 5 minutes early. It was windy: I pulled the door handle. It was open. I went in. No "welcome". I was told that the door should not have been unlocked. I was ushered outside. The bottom line? I had to send my steak back three times; the busboy knocked over my martini, spilled it on the booth seat, and did not offer to replace it; my husband asked for steak sauce and was belittled for doing so. No offer to see a dessert menu. No class; no manners. For us, no return.

Our dining experience was a mixed bag. Frankly I think they are capable of more. At their price point I expect flawless food that I couldn't make at home . I could definitely say that about the steak, perfectly cooked and a clean flavor. And the Yukon gold potatoes were to die for. The complimentary soup at the start of the meal was flavor less to the point where I thought it was hot water with an herb on it. The bread....honey roll was good but bordering on soggy and the olive roll was terrible. When they came back around the waitress recommended the rye which now I can see why. AMAZING! I could have had a meal of just that. If you have your own pastry chef every one of those bread options should be spot on. Drinks great. Overall a B-

Brought my husband for an early Father's Day dinner. My husband and son are steak eaters and know what they like. The steaks were beyond our expectations ------ as good as Michael's is with their Italian food, they are just as superb with steak! Our waiter forgot was to peek at my notes in Open Table -- which was to surprise my husband with his Johnny Walker Black, water & twist as we sat down. He asked us what we wanted to drink so I had to tell him I had entered the notes in Open Table. Other than this fluke --- the service, the sommelier, Alejandro, all were great! Michael happened to be there and we visited with him briefly. Everyone is genuinely kind and they care about all of their customers having a positive experience!

I was hoping to have my doors blown off by Chianina. It just didn't happen. The food was not bad and the wait staff was very attentive, but for $230 for my wife and I, I was hoping for more. I could have made a better steak at home for less than $50.00. We had oysters, which were the highlight of the meal. The ceasar salad was good, but I can do better at home. The bone marrow was just OK and the steak was too tough. It was cooked very well, it just didn't seem to be a very good piece of meat. Sorry. We won't be back.
