I have dined at Chiang Mai Thai
several times and plan on dining there in the future. However, the service on this visit was slow and not as attentive as my previous visits (maybe the server was having an "off" day). The food was good both my wife and I had the Panang Curry. She had it with chicken and I had it with fried tofu and veggies."

Not the best Thai food I've ever
had (I moved here from LA 6 months ago so I've been spoiled with excellent food from every genre), but overall quite good. We had a reservation and were seated right away. I was there with a group of 5, appetizers we're good and I were entrees. We ordered mango with sticky rice for dessert, mango was out of season so it was served with fried bananas instead. The sticky rice sauce could use some work. The cocktails we're ok. The blood orange sipper was a little strong and the back alley ginger had too many chunks of ginger and lemon seeds constantly going up the straw. Other than that, the flavors we're good."

Went to Chang Mai Thai for a
birthday party the other night. There were 8 of us at the table. The food was good (especially the appetizers) but the service was PAINFULLY slow. I would recommend this restaurant as a great happy hour location."

I brought a tame group of 15
people to dinner. The intention was to order drinks and appetizers and food and dessert and more drinks = big tip! However...the waitress acted like she didn't want us there from the second she approached our table. She asked if we wanted drinks and before we could even answer she walked away saying "I'll just bring waters" and then didn't come back for quite some time. The whole night went the same way. I've actually never had this type of experience here. Typically I've had wonderful service. But her attitude put a damper on our meal and so instead of sticking around for drinks we went somewhere else! The mood improved drastically at the new location, thanks to a waitress that actually wanted our business!"

the food was so good but by the
time we got it we were soooo hungry we scarfed it down. It took way too long to get the food, it was so overcrowded, that the noise level was almost unbearable, so I would highly recommend going for LUNCH not on a Friday night :)"

We had a happy hour for a
departing co-worker and it was great. Very good happy hour deals, great food and great service!"
Dined on 3/24/2014
Have never had a bad meal at
Chaing Mai Thai. We always go there before hearing music at Famous Daves (not rib people)."
Dined on 3/22/2014
I absolutely LOVE your Chicken Pad
Thai! My boyfriend and I both had the pad thai this weekend (his much spicier than mine) and we can't wait to come back and have more! My boyfriend's favorite meal has always been steak, while last night he said his spicy chicken pad Thai was far better than anything he's ever had. We will be back soon!"
Dined on 3/21/2014
Chaing Mai Thai used to be our
favorite but this time the service and food were both disappointing. Maybe it was an off night."
Dined on 3/22/2014
The food was decent and the prices
were fair. Would recommend going during lunch hour for the buffet."
Dined on 3/12/2014
I was always hesitant to try Thai
food as I thought it was ALL hot and spicy! I was SO happy to find out that was NOT the case! Chiang Mai Tai is WONDERFUL! I am a vegetarian and my very good friend is a Gluten-Free person. It's the PERFECT place for BOTH of us!! I loved it so much, that I have been there TWICE this week!!"
Dined on 3/16/2014
To be clear our waitress was
great. The service issue was that once we sat down it took and hour & 15 minutes to get our entrees. Then we waited and waited. Ordered 2nd round of drinks. Waited. Asked for to see desserts on menu. Waited. Ordered dessert, thinking how long can sticky rice take to prepare? Waited and waited. In all we sat at Chiang Mai Thai for 2 1/2 hours. For the group, entrees were rated from fair to excellent. Mine was served barely warm. Drinks were appreciated. Dessert was ok. I understand crazy busy evenings. The place was packed. But 2 1/2 hours trumped a merely ok dining experience."
Dined on 3/15/2014
Pretty consistently good. Price is
right, service is great and the wait staff makes it look easy."
Dined on 3/6/2014
All three of us enjoyed the three
course meal. Really enjoyed the sweet green curry!"
Dined on 2/28/2014
The pepper wontons were good. I
think how can you go wrong with cream cheese wontons! The pad tai was bland, chicken dry, too much peanuts, and I've had better! The experience at this establishment, especially for restaurant week, was not pleasant or satisfying."
Dined on 2/27/2014
The food took a long time to get
to us (it was Valentine's Day and the kitchen was backed up) but it was excellent! I tried a little bit of everyone else's (4 dishes total) and it was all very good."
Dined on 2/14/2014
Their curry dishes are to die for.
They are so well made you want to have seconds. I always go there whenever i am in the area."
Dined on 2/25/2014
We need to return to try different
dishes. We appreciated they had good beer on tap. Hey - I'm sorry - I didn't know my simple click to comment on our dining experience would involve a review and everything (meaning assigning four stars here and there like I'm made of them!); it's late at night and the simple clicking is easier than waxing poetic. Four stars! Would you like chopsticks? Looks like they have excellent happy hour deals too, so we'll be back for sure."

I was there a couple of days ago
on the first day of the Restaurant Week, and the experience was good. The service was not as good as I expected but the food was amazing. And the Penang Curry I ordered was way more than what I usually get, I don't know if they made a lot accidentally or gave me way more because of the Restaurant Week promotion, anyway, the cheese wonton was amazing as well. Highly recommended."
Dined on 2/23/2014
Food was solid; nice and
fresh-could have been a little hotter. Waittress was pleasant. Nice ambience on a cold night"
Dined on 2/22/2014
My wife and I have been going to
Chiang Mai Thai for years. The food, particularly the massaman curry, is great, the service is always outstanding, and the dining area is visually pleasing. Like many restaurants in the area, all types of people will be found dining, and the servers are interesting looking, but not outwardly smug. This is the type of restaurant that is likely to become a staple soon after the first visit."
Dined on 2/14/2014
Chiang Mai Thai was always one of
my favorite haunts for dinner out or take away, But it has really lost it's draw for me. We had a reservation for 8 on a Saturday night. We were seated right away which was nice and our waitress was kind, however she came across as overall flustered. She took drink orders for only half the table, and there were long waits for drinks and appetizers. I used to think chiang's calamari was the best in mpls, but that has changed as well. We got about 7-8 rings which was skimpy compared to what we used to get. They raised the prices for their entrees and you get less as well.. Not to mention the shortage of rice. The food all tasted good, but just not as good and definitely not for the higher prices."

I took my wife for valentine's day
and both of us liked the restaurant.. Food tasted good.. Service was ok, may be because of valentines day rush waitress seemed to be in a rush and we did not feel that welcoming. ."
Dined on 2/14/2014
Chose Chiang Mai Thai for a first
date as it was our favorite Thai place. The food and service helped make the evening memorable. Yes, there will be a second date!"
Dined on 2/13/2014
We decided to beat the Valentine's
day crowd and celebrate early. We did have our two little ones with us, which may be why we ended up in a corner well away from anyone. That we didn't mind so much, because Chiang Mai doesn't really seem like it's for those with children. We ordered spring rolls with beef, chicken satay, and sea scallops for our appetizers. We loved the chicken satay and the sea scallops were out of this world. My Valentine ordered the Som Tam, which we both tried but was a bit too fishy for either of us. For dinner, I ordered the Massaman curry and he ordered the Garlic Pepper Stir fry. The curry, for me, was a let down. His Garlic Pepper Stir fry was much better. We also tried the Midnight Cowboy which was great!"
Dined on 2/13/2014
The service was excellent, even
though every table was full. We actually gave up or reservation because of the wonderful atmosphere at the back bar. The food was cooked perfectly and came in a very timely fashion. We spent 2 hours there and it barely felt like 30 minutes! Loved the entire experience!"

Bethany was great and I enjoy
Stephen always stopping by to say hello on his way out Joe"

We arrived and told the hostess we
had a reservation. She tries to seat us in the bar. I explain that if I wanted to sit in the bar I wouldn't have made reservation. She then told me "all of the table were reserved" ??? I explained again that I made reservations as well. Then after a long stand off she seats us next to the bathroom!!! I will never come to this establishment again. My guest and I were shocked that we were treated this way."
Dined on 1/24/2014
My first time here so I have only
tried a couple appetizers and one entree. The coconut soup and the green curry with chicken were both very good, although I prefer my curry a bit thicker than they prepare it. The restaurant is surprisingly large but divided into smaller rooms and spaces with a nice mix of booths and tables, great for my small group. We were there early and the place gradually filled up, but it never got so loud you couldn't hear people speak. The bartender also made up a good ginger martini for us even though that was not on the menu. Parking is convenient in the ajoining ramp (but not cheap at $8 for 2 hrs). I'll be back!"

Two friends of mine and I did
dine-in this evening, I arrived little early and my friends came little late so the server lady was nothing much to do for me at that time, and thanks for her patience. But then, after all my friends arrived, we waited about 10 minutes just to order, my friend ordered a diet coke, didn't get a refill until the food arrived which took almost 30 minutes. I didn't get my water refilled at all, didn't check us more than once in 90 minutes. She was not rude or anything but just was not very attentive. In overall I give them 3 stars, for the food."
Dined on 1/25/2014
The food hasn't been as good as
past years and the waitress was not very attentive. The pad thai was great as always. Prices have also gone up. Not much bang for the buck!"

I debated going out due to
extremely cold weather but I already postponed my birthday for other weather reasons... and the reservations were already made (for a second time). Well once I got there - I was extremely happy to see that the restaurant was not packed (which may have had to do with the weather). Anyway, the server was prompt and very pleasant. She didn't push us to order before we were ready nor make us feel like we had to order whenever she showed up at table. The server was great. The atmosphere was warm and cozy (for that cold night), and the food was just as delicious as it always is. I've been going to Chiang Mai Thai for years... but I think the last visit was 6 years."

I am lactose intolerant and
finding a restaurant that has so many options was a true FIND! Thanks to our friends for suggesting it. I highly recommend the restaurant - it offered all that we were looking for. A great place for communication and actually being able to hear one another, great service, fabulous food and overall a perfect night!"

This is one of our favorite Thai
restaurants. Went there for our anniversary. Loved their new Sriracha stir fries. Ge React service"
Dined on 1/2/2014
I have been dining at CMT for over
15 years, I have always loved their food. However, the service the past several visits has been less than average. The server rarely checked on us, we had to ask several times for refills. Another server had to box up our food and take our plates since our server was MIA. I would recommend going for the food but if the service continues at an unsatisfactory level I will no longer be dining with CMT."
Dined on 12/7/2013
We had a range of spice levels
among the five of us and found good choices to share. Suggest you pass on the appetizers as they aren't very remarkable. The Happy shrimp look like corn dogs with all their batter, not very happy! Our service started out great and then we couldn't find our server to order entrees even though we had mentioned we had theater tickets. We won't keep this on our return list."
Dined on 12/7/2013
Despite several positive reviews
on this site as well as a recommendation from our hotel, we found this Thai restaurant to be awful. It began with the extremely slow and uninspired service. It took almost 10 minutes to order a drink and then another 40 minutes to finally receive our food. The table next to us had been waiting nearly 1 hour. Clearly there was a major problem at hand but no manager or even the waitress spoke openly about it or offered support. The food was really bland and not at all Thai inspired. It was a wasted opportunity to eat a great meal somewhere else."
Dined on 11/29/2013
Really enjoyed this Thai
restaurant. It's just not close enough for us to get there often."
Dined on 11/24/2013
The ambience and service was
excellent but the food fell short of expectations. When our family goes out for Thai food, we want to feel the burn! We realize not everyone, esp in Minnesota, agrees with us, so we made a special effort to explain to the waitress that we wanted our food very spicy. She warned us that 4 out of 4 was "crazy hot" so we ordered 3 out of 4. Mine seemed like a 1out of 4 and my son's seemed like a 2 out of 4. Very disapoointed. Was given spicy sauces at our table to add to the dish but not the same as having the spices cooked into it. The drinks, I had a "Mo Thai" and the sauteed cahews were fantastic!"
Dined on 11/23/2013
Love the food; their pad thai is
delicious! Had dined twice and both times were not a disappointment."
