Diner Reviews
  • "We celebrated my husband's birthday at Chez Zee and had a lovely time. The food was great and they made it a festive occasion. Our wait person was excellent, serving us promptly and checking back occasionally to see if everything was going well."

  • "Just love Chez Zee. It has a wonderfully varied menu and I've never had anything I didn't think was absolutely fantastic. The staff is very warm and friendly and make you feel special and pampered. I've recommended this place to many friends and they all love it as well."

  • "Reliable and extremely consistent. All these reviews ask if you would recommend. This is a place that I'm always happy to recommend to friends, because I can count on them to be great every time. Also, OpenTable makes it super easy to make reservations from anywhere! Try the creamy Gorgonzola pasta with a bottle of Oregon pino. You'll be glad you did."

  • "Food was great and service was too. Enjoyed our time there."

  • "This restaurant is a great Austin landmark for dining. Ambiance is beautiful and the dining spaces are separated by windowed walls so it cuts down on the noise yet feels very open. They also have a great private dining space to hold large parties. I tried the crab meat patty topped with coleslaw and their sweet potato fries and both were delicious. Special note...the fries were made to perfection...nice and crispy!"

  • "My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary and her birthday at Chez Zee recently. We arrived before our reservation, but we were quickly seated. The table was decorated for our celebration. The service was excellent. My wife had pasta, which was outstanding, and I had a NY strip steak, which was cooked to perfection and very tasty. Unlike many Austin restaurants, the noise level was minimal, allowing us to converse easily during our meal. We will return often although the location is far from our home. It's worth the trip!"

  • "Chez Zee is very welcoming and we were seated at the time of our reservation. The wait staff was very pleasant and the menu for brunch was extensive. The food was delicious and we were not rushed. A great brunch dining experience."

  • "It was my 11 year old daughters birthday, and she wanted to go to Chee Zee. The staff made her feel very special. A Very enjoyable dinner for all."

  • "Dependably great food and excellent desserts. Can never go wrong with this choice!"

  • "While we enjoyed the food and service, your restaurant is very loud. People were crammed and more were walking in. We realize that Sunday Brunch is a busy time, but there has to be a way to make the restaurant roomier and to make the acoustics better."

  • "This was our 1st visit to Chez Zee, with a party of 6. The complementary valet was nice, as the parking lot was full upon arrival. We had a reservation and were promptly seated, there was a wait for those without reservations. The interior of the dining area is eclectic, I would not call it elegant, but it was fun, energetic, and funky. We loved the live music from the red grand piano, we were seated somewhat close to the piano which made conversations somewhat harder. Our food was perfect. We had a variety of brunch dishes including omelets, French toast, eggs benedict with crab, etc. The Bloody Mary's were generously sized and reasonably priced. Our server was very sweet and took good care of us. Overall a great experience."

  • "Chez Zee has consistently great food and good service. The favorite meal is still brunch but all meals are delicious. You can also get a special party room for receptions, etc. parking is Problematic but with the complimentary valet parking, who cares?"

  • "Wonderful atmosphere includes a lovely outside courtyard and layers of sparkling lights inside combined with folk art and country chiche furnishings. Excellent food and amazing desert bar with great service."

  • "I love everything about Chez Zee, especially dessert. I do wish it were a tad less noisy, though. The valet parking is a super-plus."

  • "Chez Zee continues to live up to its great reputation! Food is always tasty and prepared in interesting ways. Love the fried pickles they bring as a complimentary starter!"

  • "Great food and tremendous service! Only one complaint. Got there early for an 11 am reservation and was told it would be 15 minutes, which it was. If I'd wanted an 11:15 reservation I would've made one."

  • "I was part of a group of 11 people. The food was great but the service was slow (I think because they were just so busy that day). Our wait staff was very nice and gave us some creme brulee french toast since our food took so long."

  • "Love Chez Zee! Just very disappointed in the food. We had dinner at the Balcones location. The food is VERY bland. And were those REAL mashed potatoes, or made with water instead of milk??? The seasonal veggies were very tender, as expected, but very bland. I think the dinner prices are outlandish for the quality of food served. We did not have dessert there, but it certainly looked scrumptious!! Next time we go, we'll just have desserts! Guess that's why the sign ".....eat dessert first!" Note: noise level was quiet because there were very few patrons on this particular night."

  • "They decorated the table for our occasion which was an exciting and unexpected surprise, and the front door staff was great, but everything else was sub par. Our waitress basically disappeared after taking our order, none of our drinks were made consistently, my serving of quiche seemed like it was a kids sized portion, and we never got the to go container we asked for. It was disappointing because this place is usually spot on."

  • "The place was packed but we were seated immediately as we had a reservation. Our first time there so we tried the famous Creme Brulei french toast. Not french toast. Not that good. My companion ordered a Benedict with Lobster which tasted so fishy she didn't end up eating it. I ordered a regular eggs benedict which arrived with one egg broken and both eggs underdone. Not a good experience."

  • "Excellent food as always. Have returned there multiple times since I was in College in the early 80's!"

  • "Breakfast/brunch is my favorite meal and when traveling, I always look for unique places ... this fit the bill. I had the crab cake benedict. It was good. The cakes had goo flavor and were cooked right, but had too much breading and not enough crab. Restaurant should consider raising the price about 3 dollars and adding more lump crab meat. My partner had the chicken and waffles and loved them. The wait staff was professional and attentive and had a good grasp on the menu, enabling them to make good recommendations to newcomers. Worth the trip and they take reservations, which is a plus."

  • "I love the ambience, all the twinkly lights, art work, red piano, This is just such a vibrant place. Lots of choices on the menu, cost not too over-the-top, and very tasty food."

  • "To celebrate any special occasion or just for lunch this restaurant is my friend's favorite. It is interesting, has different food choices and the noise level is moderate given that the place is always full. Make a reservation and enjoy. It's not cheap but it is worth it."

  • "My wife and I eat at Chez Zee on special occasions - anniversary, Valentine's Day, etc. The food is excellent, and the portions are not too big, except for the deserts! We like the local charm and the romantic atmosphere. The menu has a good variety of healthful food choices, which we appreciate. I had grilled Texas Drum and my wife had the Salmon. The only issue we have is that Chex Zee is kind of pricey. Sure the food is excellent, but is Chez Zee's grilled fish on rice pilaf 3x better than that from some more generic restaurant? We spent over $100 for a meal that would have cost less than $40 at any of our other favorite local restaurants. For this reason, we save Chez Zee for special romantic occasions."

  • "Went the day after valentines day. Atmosphere and service was great. They were out of some items that we were interested in but they were really busy for valentines. Will definitely go again. Would like to try brunch"

  • "As my first time at this location, I would say that I really enjoyed it. All the food we ordered was great. I personally ordered the Jalapeno Chicken with Corn Bread. The dish could use a bit more jalapeno flavor, but very flavorful otherwise. Dessert pies or cakes are very big slices. We ordered the sampler plate but barely made a dent on all the pieces. All three were delish."

  • "Chez Zee is a great place for a group. The decor is eclectic and the place can be somewhat noisy. We enjoyed our recent brunch. The menu is diverse enough for different tastes. While ample, some of the plates were uninspired. The service and value are strong."

  • "We had to park across the street because the parking lot was full. We walked in and there were people standing, sitting and lolling about. I figured our reservations were going down the drain really fast. However, upon entering, we were immediately greeted by a lovely lady who showed us right to our table for two. It was stuck in an alcove next to a big table full of little ones. ...but to our nice surprise, that table was perfect for us to visit, the table next to us was very "well behaved", our Benedict upon fried polenta, coffee, gratis bday cake, ordered creme brûlée, more coffee and...well, it was all delicious as was the service! A perfect bday brunch and we will definitely return and make sure we have a reservation next time, too!"

  • "I had the prime rib and lobster tail which was good but not awesome. The spinach greens were fantastic. The Italian Creme Cake was superb. My wife had a steak which she said was good but not awesome as the price we paid would suggest. We ate off the Valentine menu. The waiter, Greg, was superb. The atmosphere is casual and was very nice."

  • "This was my first time at chez Zee, and I really enjoyed it. The acoustics do need some work, because it was extremely loud in the restaurant and the sound pads on the ceiling did nothing to help that. The pianist was outstanding. I got the lobster Benedict and it was less than expected. The lobster tasted very fishy which tells me it was not fresh. Other than that and the noise I loved it."

  • "Chez Zee is our go-to spot and didn't disappoint. You really SHOULD start with dessert to ensure you've got room. I think I've decided I don't prefer their smoked pork - a little too much smoke, I think."

  • "we love this place for many reasons and for all occasions, and we are frequent customers! its an Austin Gem with great food, fabulous desserts, cozy and fun setting - a happy place to be!"

  • "We were super disappointed with the service and ended up walking out. The waiter was very obvious about not being happy with my daughter (8yo) and I taking up a 4-top on a Saturday night. He was just plain unfriendly and actually sighed when I ordered a coke instead of wine. My steak came out very under-done, sent it back and it came back a minute later barely any further along. My wife and I have enjoyed meals there in the past, but this experience killed it for us. There are too many good restaurants in Austin to bother going back to someplace that tolerates treating customers this poorly."

  • "We chose Chez Zee because most other places were already booked. Overall it was a great experience. They were pretty chaotic and the kitchen seemed to be having some issues (being valentines day on a Friday I can't fault them). But the food was still good and the waitstaff very friendly."

  • "We had an amazing time! The food was so great! We eat every bit of it! If you go you have to get the fried pickles! They are the best I've ever had! The inside was beautiful. The inside was beautiful! The only bad thing about that night was the service! When we were seated we looked at the menu and the drink menu. Before our waitress came to take our drink order we already knew our appetizer, drinks and main entrée. We sat there for a little over 10 minutes before anyone came and saw us. Our waitress was very slow."
