Chez Papa Bistrotcpb reviewEverything was excellent except noise level made conversation very challenge.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat serviceMe and my wife went to chez papa last Tuesday night for dinner,we love that cozy French bistros that remind us our trip to Paris.Unfortunetely the food didn't quite meet our expectations,we were first disappointed to find out that they no longer serve their delicious rack of lamb with ratatouille, our waiter did recommend us the beef short ribs and oh boy he was right..A must to have! We also tried the asparagus salad again ,it was good but could have used more cheese on it (it says tome de savoie on the menu, but wasn't that night..maybe ran out..?) The burrata salad not so fan to complex in flavors...The lamb daube was delicious as usual! Thanks to our waiter for the great recommendation on that bottle of cote du Rhone and friendly service5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent!Wanted to treat my family to unique dining experience from the usual chinese/asian dinner. Chez Papa hit the spot with the flavorful sauces, tender meats, and succulent mussels. Water and bread consistently refilled. The wine recommendation on the chalk board was very good value for $30! Overall the fantastic dining experience. We thoroughly enjoyed all the dish offerings here and will be sure to return!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMChez Papa: ALWAYS GREAT! THISChez Papa: ALWAYS GREAT! THIS IS TRADITIONAL FRENCH FOOD. DON'T COME IF YOU ARE ON A DIET :)5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMOui Chez PapaThis has always been one of my favorite neighborhood gems since it first opened when I moved to the Dog Patch community. I regret that I have not been here as much as I would like to but it was great to know that it's just as good as it always was if not even better. I visited Chez Papa with a dear friend from Paris. She loved the meal of mussels and fries and showed me how to eat it the french way. If she enjoyed her meal -- it's gotta be good. Oh, the creme brulee was excellent too.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFrom the moment you step ontoFrom the moment you step onto the corner, you are in Paris - without the attitude. Serious, yet smiling, waiters who know the food and aim to please. Perfectly paced and deliciously prepared.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThis really is a fantasticThis really is a fantastic resto. I've heard that it's gone up and down wrt to quality but they seem to be on an upswing now! Very good.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWe came here on monday nightWe came here on monday night with my wife, our friends who lives on potrero hill recommended us chez papa so we decided to come check it out.Really cute bistrot with zinc tables and red chairs ( my wife felt in love with those red chairs..).Overall we had a great experience even though the food did not meet quite our expectations....Service was great, attentive and yet friendly, thanks again to our waiter for recommending such great bottle of wine, have not had that quality of service in a long time!4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMEnergetic neighborhood spot,Energetic neighborhood spot, crowded-in-a-good-way, great food, excellent and friendly service, terrific view of downtown from the front door. Definitely a must-try.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat French BistroDelicious food—fresh ingredients very well prepared!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent neighborhood bistro.Excellent neighborhood bistro. Loved the food and the atmosphere. My only regret is that it is 3000 miles from my neighborhood.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was wonderful exceptEverything was wonderful except for the noise level which was pretty high.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMParis in SFIt is always a great pleasure to dine at Chez Papa, because of the consistent quality of food and the gracious, wonderful staff. My favorite mussels Moules Mariniere are my "go to" dish. My husband loved the Salade Nicoise with the sardine toasts. Mandatory are the Allumettes frites, which are always hot and superb. But don't forget the incomparable side dish of Canneloni beans in olive oil and mixed herbs. We both tried the escargot with Pernod and they were fab. The Rose Provencial was flavorful. With this intoxicating food, we could have been in Paris or the Cote d'Azure!3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food and vibrant atmoTry the mussels and the fries! The wine list is great and the entres are delicious. The service is also top notch for such a busy place.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent food and service.excellent food and service. The noise level is way too high.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFood, wine and service perfectFor a small menu, there is abundant variety of flavors. We shared three small plates (beef tartare, grilled local sardine, and mussels in white wine with pommes frites), and one entree (lamb daube). The food was uniformly well composed, skillfully prepared and quite delicious! Really nice, well chosen wine list presented some good pairings with the food. Very attentive, but not intrusive service with no gaps between courses. Oh, and the raspberry macaroon is to die for! Powerful fresh raspberry flavor ... crispy exterior, pillowy soft interior. The view from the hilltop is a nice bonus too!3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always, a neighborhoodAs always, a neighborhood favorite when I am back in my old 'hood! Celebrated my Dad's birthday and they decorated the dessert with a candle for him. Glasses of dessert wine on the house made it even more special. I live in NYC now and miss my special Chez Papa!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, great experienceLots of variety and great skill, with attention to presentation. Life fills the restaurant from the creative energy the staff puts into the preparation. These folks enjoy their profession and it shows in the results. A great example that a restaurant can be less formal but still top notch.
Went back a second time to see if the first time was a fluke. No fluke--it's still great.3/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWas at the SF Design CenterWas at the SF Design Center area and this was a perfect spot to stop for lunch. Great food. Two of us had the prix fixed meal which started with the best butter lettuce salad followed by heavenly mussels to which we added a side of frites... Worth the splurge for those who do not normally indulge in fried foods. Other starters included escargot which were heavenly and an excellent broccoli soup. It was my birthday and the waiter sang in English and French....along with fantastic espresso, the perfect ending to a delightful meal. Only criticism is that it was a cold rainy day and you will want to wear a sweater as there is a blast of air each time the door opens. However, the excellent food and happy atmosphere more than compensate for this.11/29/2012 12:00:00 AM
