Waiter experienced and helpful guided us to the perfect dinner as always. Always a pleasure to eat where food is treated creatively and seriously, and is freshest, and totally delicious. Its always wonderful to dine at this amazing restaurant that is consistently perfect 40 years. It seems we are in a season where menu items are a bit limited, but still excellent.1/8/2013 12:00:00 AM5 Star Food - 4 Star PricesChez Panisse has been a "destination restaurant" for almost 30 years - but for my money, the cafe is a better deal - 5 star food on a 4 star budget. If you want perfectly prepared casual food, using the freshest local ingredients - the cafe should be on your list. The menu is short and changes daily. There's always something that will tickle the taste buds of even the most discriminating diner. BUT: service can be perfunctory and a little cold and snooty; seating is tight; if the diners close to you are really enjoying themselves, you'll hear every word; and if you have to wait, you end up dodging the waiters or blocking the entrance because there is almost no place to sit out of the line of travel.
