Diner Reviews
  • "We love this place. Great food, service, and friendly owners. The trout and the brunch menu are among our favorites. This is one of the top French bistros in Chicago. Don't miss it!"

  • "We've dined here many times over the past two years. Server Nicole--outstanding. Great food, unpretentious, but somehow, also, elegant."

  • "We have always had a solid experience at Chez Moi. The food is great, service is excellent (staff is very knowledgeable), and the ambiance is unique (european romantic feel as it's quaint, yet big enough for group or family gathering!) A solid place."

  • "I have alway ejoyed going there. Food is great and like the ambiance."

  • "Wonderful food and service! The best way to experience it is to "take your time" ... just like the French. Every course was awesome and the trout was out of this world! I have been to France many times and this rivals some of their best restaurants. Don't miss it when in Chicago."

  • "The restaurant was very accommodating. Our reservation was in the middle of a thunderstorm. One couple was stuck on the Metra which was not moving at all. Finally they cancelled saying they were just going home when the train started. But then the train started and they came after all. Chez Moi held our dinner orders, and let the tardy couple order the pre-fixe meal. In the middle of all this, they were also serving a large wedding party dinner."

  • "We went here for Fathers Day brunch and the food was amazing."

  • "Very nice decor and outside dining area. Service was excellent. They have an early prix fixe dinner for $29 for 3 courses. We tried 6 different dishes and all were delicious. Standouts included the french onion soup, salmon, the cassoulet, and the shortbread dessert. Our server Nicole and the manager Tony were extremely welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu and wines. We asked Nicole to pair wines with each of the dishes and the pairings were perfect. We can't wait to go back to introduce others to gem."

  • "But for the price the meat should have been a little better. Some tough cuts."

  • "Real French bistro feel -- simple food, with fresh ingredients. Informal atmosphere. Quiet room, so conversation is easy. Nice people on the staff. Full bar, with emphasis on wine. Good for couples or small groups in the Lincoln Park/Lakeview neighborhood. We'll definitely go back."

  • "I just don't know how to describe our experience. Fantastic just fantastic, we had the Bacon tart (delish!), Cassoulet, Duck, and that caramel shortbread cake (ughh so delicious). Nicole was just superb and recommended everything we ate. Wines are reasonably priced and we just had an overall wonderful time and can't wait till we come back!"

  • "We really loved our experience at Chez Moi. Everything we tried (Carrot Soup, Escargot, Duck a'Lorange, Scallops) we all fantastic. Our waitress was very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The atmosphere is really nice, great décor and great lighting features. We will be back for sure."

  • "Food not up to par. Oversalted and one meat dish ordered med was raw and one was well done. Would give most places second chance but this was the second chance--seems its better days are behind it. Our server however was superb"

  • "Food was remarkable. My taste buds felt they were back in the French countryside. The soups, French Onion and Mushroom, we're very flavorful. I can honestly say the Chicken I had was the best Chicken I've ever had - moist with remarkable flavors. My wife's Salmon was excellent as well. The folks we were with raved about the Cassoulet. Desserts were special as well. Excellent"

  • "This restaurant is a true gem. It's located in Lincoln Park; which is a lovely neighborhood. (I'd actually like to spend more time there). The restaurant has a very nice feel and the food and service was exceptional! I had the beet salad as an appetizer and the steak for a main. Both were excellent. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and very friendly and professional. Great place. I will definitely go back!"

  • "Just moved into the neighborhood, and we visited Chez Moi. It has a great menu with lots of choices for small plates, and normal entrees. The food was amazing, and the wine list had a nice variety of French wines from low cost to high end. The only issue we had was the service. The two waiters had trouble keeping track of our table, and they were slow to take orders, bring wine, etc. But overall a great experience"

  • "This is a neighborhood treasure. The ambience is lovely. The food is always so well seasoned and presented and the service is just the right balance of being helpful and also not intrusive. Best bread ever also."

  • "The food at Chez Moi is authentic and delicious; the orange duck was outstanding. The décor and the service could do with some work though: the table was shaky (though they rectified it), and the server forgot utensils a couple of times and always brought the plates too early when the dishes had not arrived. Still, none of these faults were enough to spoil the experience - I would still recommend Chez Moi for anyone looking for a French food fix."

  • "This was our second time dining here and probably our last. Both times we were seated in the back room, like second class citizens. The first time the main dining room was filled. However this time the main dining room was rented out to a private party on a SATURDAY NIGHT! Sorry but you won't see US again!"

  • "Chez Moi is a super cute place and the staff is more than friendly. Although the french food is very good, it does not excel or compete with other French restaurants. But that's not the most important. The staffing and the attention to the customer was pretty bad. It took about 45 min to get our appetizers in, another 40 for our entrees, long time to get drinks, etc, etc...We were there for four hours which was way too long. The server again was super nice, but they had several ladies around not doing much...and we thought they could have taken our orders instead of waiting for the server. Again....nice restaurant, nice staff but so slow...too slow..."

  • "Our party of three enjoyed a delicious meal at Chez Moi over the weekend. The wine and cocktail list were impressive and so was our food. Our seafood dishes were delicious; perfectly prepared, seasoned, and presented. The restaurant became very busy midway through our meal and, unfortunately, the effects of the increased traffic were evident with our server. Nothing major but it was more difficult to find our waiter when we wanted to order dessert and when we wanted to pay our bill (it took quite a while for our waiter to produce a check at the end of our meal). Other than the spotty service, I'd highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely visit it again. "

  • "This is clearly one of the top three French Bistros in Chicago. Chef Dominique and his gracious wife India offer lots of excellent authentic bistro faire. We especially enjoy the seafood offerings...the trout is amazing. The Breton gateaux is a great dessert choice also. They have a nice, moderately priced wine list. Try the Sunday brunch as well...to die for."

  • "All the food we ordered was delicious. Our waitress was very sweet and helpful and really took care of us. The design of the restaurant was very cool. Great place to celebrate an occasion. "

  • "We had a really good experience. Good food, good service, good atmosphere. The mussels and trout in particular are very well prepared. Oh, and the bread -- delicious. We celebrated our anniversary, and our server brought us a complimentary dessert. We typically do not order dessert, but this was truly wonderful. Nice wine list, with a good price range to accommodate different price points. We're looking forward to a return visit, especially for the cassoulet in the fall."

  • "We always go to Chez Moi (formerly Cafe Bernard) when we are in Chicago. Yes, there are plenty of other, excellent French restaurants, but this one can't be beat for good location (Lincoln Park area), great service, and really good food -- just what one might get on a side street in Paris! The combination of variety, authentic preparation, and attentive service can't be beat."

  • "Having been to France less than a year ago, I've found myself quite judgmental of French restaurants in the states. Chez Moi, however, was absolutely fabulous. We had the most courteous French waiter that made excellent suggestions. The portions were far more generous than your typical French restaurant (I came hungry, left full, and even took home left-overs). I had the Lyonnaise Salad, Canard L'Orange, and their salted caramel Brittany cake. All absolutely delicious and all recommended by our waiter. Great food, great service, and soothing atmosphere. I highly recommend!"

  • "We enjoyed Easter Brunch at Chez Moi. We were visiting from out of town and looked for a restaurant close to our hotel. Chez Moi was great. We really enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere."

  • "Absolutely blown away by the food!!!! Every bite was an explosion of flavors, You can tell that the chef carefully picked out each ingredient to make sure that your mouth wanted more after every bite. My eggs were poached perfectly the bacon was crispy yet not burnt and the croutons seasoned just how I like them. My only issue was the service, or lack their of. It was our first time dinning at the amazing little gem and if the food wasn't perfection I would probably not want to go back due to the poor service. "

  • "We went to Chez Moi with another couple for date night. It was delicious! Our friends were not very familiar with French food but enjoyed every bite. We loved passing through the kitchen to be seated in the back section of the restaurant. The Chef was so kind to greet us as we left as well. Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a delicious meal in a beautiful setting."

  • "I had never tried this place before but love the area it's in so thought if give it a shot. Brought my family there and we all loved it! Brunch had great choices (all delicious) and the service was fantastic- very personable waitress. I would definitely suggest this place"

  • "Chez Moi has consistently been such a great spot for me to take my family and friends. A girlfriend and I came in to have a "catch-up" dinner and we ended up staying for almost 3 hours without even realizing it! Ive always felt welcome here and the food is delicious to top it off. The only disappointment was that we couldnt eat more. Michael was fantastic, we told him we were taking it slow and never once did I feel we were trying to be pushed out. He made excellent recommendations and was super nice! He is definitely one of the reasons we will be back. Also those minimal bad reviews I see, I refuse to believe them having that bad of an time, my advice is to try Chez Moi for your own experience. I've never had a bad anything here!"

  • "We came here after a look at the positive reviews and were not disappointed. The service was absolutely outstanding, the food was absolutely delicious, the ambiance was absolutely cozy with a hint of romance ( noise level was reasonable for a Saturday night), and just overall we had such a great time we cant wait to come back!"

  • "The dining room is charming. The ambience is so French and big city at the same time. Cozy without overkill. The chef is the most charming guy ... really. He is the consummate host. You'll see him in the dining room greeting and chatting and laughing right along with the guests. And don't think he's slacking off in the kitchen. He's an amazing executor but he's also trained his staff so well that he can leave the kitchen and everything still comes out perfectly. The onion tart is so authentic and tasty. His Brittany cake is to die for. Save room for dessert. And watch for his specials and specialty dishes. You won't be disappointed. And you can get out of there with a reasonable bill!"

  • "We chose Chez Moi because of good memories of the chef's work at Bistro 110, where all 5 of us had dined in the past. As it turned out, the valet service was the highlight of the evening. From the seating arrangements to the fact that the bartender was tasked as our server, it was a comedy of errors. Several of the lowlights included: an item (fish special) that was sent out mistakenly instead of the duck entree that was ordered, a Lyonnaise salad with overcooked eggs that was sent out with the entrees when it was specifically requested as a separate course, non-existent service of the two bottles of wine that we ordered, and the fish entree and returned salad not removed from the first bill. I've gotten better service at Susie's drive-in."
