Diner Reviews
  • "We had a wonderful dinner Sunday night, service excellent, food delicious, lovely ambiance. What could be better!"

  • "What a great place to enjoy a dinner with friends. The service was great and the food was exceptional. Serving sizes were generous. Price was very reasonable. This is on our 'go-to' list."

  • "Wonderful food and service, and the ambiance was fantastic! Went for brunch with some friends, I got the steak and frites, and the steak was cooked a perfect medium rare. They also have great bloody Mary's and a great bottomless mimosa deal. One of my friends got the smoked salmon crepe - and that was fantastic, light and divine and something I would order next time. Would highly recommend!"

  • "Mature patrons, enjoyed dining early here because after 6:30 you can not hear to enjoy the conversation of your dining partner. Love the food and ambience..the noise factor is the biggest pain to over come."

  • "You don't be disappointed here; cuisine and ambience are fantastic. Their brunch items, sandwiches, salads - everything they make is delicious and the service is impeccable. Bon appetit!"

  • "Basic French bistro menu but good food. Portions very large..especially the dessert, which could have been about half the size. Could add a bit of variety rather than just basic classic French menu selections."

  • "The food was delicious and the portions perfectly sized. We sat outside, but the service was still attentive. This is a favorite!"

  • "Every aspect of our dining experience was exceptional. I took my girlfriend here for her birthday, and our server, Nichole, greeted us with two glasses of champagne. Nichole gave us some good recommendations, and we chose a split pea soup special, a melon and prosciutto salad, the duck entree and a mushroom ravioli special. The appetizers were sublime, but the ravioli from Chez Moi was the best ravioli I've ever tasted. The portions were perfectly appropriate. We had the Brittany cake to finish everything off, and both of us loved it."

  • "Enjoyed the quiche & light salad combo once again! It's like having dessert -- the silky custard is light but oh so flavorful."

  • "Lovely French Bistro. Truly French. Service, food and wine all good except service better than France. Will be back! Love the foie gras! Escargot too."

  • "My wife had taken our grown children here before, but I had not been yet...simply said, it was one of the best gastronomic experiences I've had in a long, long time. Dominique and his beautiful wife India are warm and inviting, and Bethany was the perfect server. It's a very quaint space in the Halstead area. The food is lovingly prepared and presented in classic French style. We all felt like part of the family, and will most certainly be back again!"

  • "Loved it all, so good! The waiter Tony was wonderful and fantastic at recommending wines. The beet sale was superb and the roasted chicken was unreal with an incredible sauce. The final desserts were delicious. Nice people working there...."

  • "This is the second time we have been to the restaurant and were treated like royalty. From the beginning we sat at the bar with our friends to when we left almost three hours later we had a fabulous dining experience."

  • "Enjoyed a delicious meal of trout and roasted chicken on the three course dinners for only $29/dinner. Great deal. Also, very convenient for shows at Steppenwolf."

  • "I would say Chez Moi is a "Good" French Restaurant. Honestly, however, I was expecting a bit more. The rabbit and the duck had rave reviews from my dining companions, but I was less than impressed with their "Casoulet"- it was very heavy on the beans and light on everything else. Traditional French items (Kir Royale and Foie Gras) lacked that special something for me. The service was good and responsive... the place just left me wanting a little more."

  • "We went for Bastille Day. The entire experience was perfect. I recommend the escargot and the pate. But you can't go wrong with anything on the menu."

  • "We love this place. Great food, service, and friendly owners. The trout and the brunch menu are among our favorites. This is one of the top French bistros in Chicago. Don't miss it!"

  • "We have always had a solid experience at Chez Moi. The food is great, service is excellent (staff is very knowledgeable), and the ambiance is unique (european romantic feel as it's quaint, yet big enough for group or family gathering!) A solid place."

  • "We've dined here many times over the past two years. Server Nicole--outstanding. Great food, unpretentious, but somehow, also, elegant."

  • "Wonderful food and service! The best way to experience it is to "take your time" ... just like the French. Every course was awesome and the trout was out of this world! I have been to France many times and this rivals some of their best restaurants. Don't miss it when in Chicago."

  • "The restaurant was very accommodating. Our reservation was in the middle of a thunderstorm. One couple was stuck on the Metra which was not moving at all. Finally they cancelled saying they were just going home when the train started. But then the train started and they came after all. Chez Moi held our dinner orders, and let the tardy couple order the pre-fixe meal. In the middle of all this, they were also serving a large wedding party dinner."

  • "But for the price the meat should have been a little better. Some tough cuts."

  • "Very nice decor and outside dining area. Service was excellent. They have an early prix fixe dinner for $29 for 3 courses. We tried 6 different dishes and all were delicious. Standouts included the french onion soup, salmon, the cassoulet, and the shortbread dessert. Our server Nicole and the manager Tony were extremely welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu and wines. We asked Nicole to pair wines with each of the dishes and the pairings were perfect. We can't wait to go back to introduce others to gem."

  • "Real French bistro feel -- simple food, with fresh ingredients. Informal atmosphere. Quiet room, so conversation is easy. Nice people on the staff. Full bar, with emphasis on wine. Good for couples or small groups in the Lincoln Park/Lakeview neighborhood. We'll definitely go back."

  • "We really loved our experience at Chez Moi. Everything we tried (Carrot Soup, Escargot, Duck a'Lorange, Scallops) we all fantastic. Our waitress was very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. The atmosphere is really nice, great décor and great lighting features. We will be back for sure."

  • "Food not up to par. Oversalted and one meat dish ordered med was raw and one was well done. Would give most places second chance but this was the second chance--seems its better days are behind it. Our server however was superb"

  • "I just don't know how to describe our experience. Fantastic just fantastic, we had the Bacon tart (delish!), Cassoulet, Duck, and that caramel shortbread cake (ughh so delicious). Nicole was just superb and recommended everything we ate. Wines are reasonably priced and we just had an overall wonderful time and can't wait till we come back!"

  • "Food was remarkable. My taste buds felt they were back in the French countryside. The soups, French Onion and Mushroom, we're very flavorful. I can honestly say the Chicken I had was the best Chicken I've ever had - moist with remarkable flavors. My wife's Salmon was excellent as well. The folks we were with raved about the Cassoulet. Desserts were special as well. Excellent"

  • "This restaurant is a true gem. It's located in Lincoln Park; which is a lovely neighborhood. (I'd actually like to spend more time there). The restaurant has a very nice feel and the food and service was exceptional! I had the beet salad as an appetizer and the steak for a main. Both were excellent. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and very friendly and professional. Great place. I will definitely go back!"

  • "Just moved into the neighborhood, and we visited Chez Moi. It has a great menu with lots of choices for small plates, and normal entrees. The food was amazing, and the wine list had a nice variety of French wines from low cost to high end. The only issue we had was the service. The two waiters had trouble keeping track of our table, and they were slow to take orders, bring wine, etc. But overall a great experience"

  • "This is a neighborhood treasure. The ambience is lovely. The food is always so well seasoned and presented and the service is just the right balance of being helpful and also not intrusive. Best bread ever also."

  • "The food at Chez Moi is authentic and delicious; the orange duck was outstanding. The décor and the service could do with some work though: the table was shaky (though they rectified it), and the server forgot utensils a couple of times and always brought the plates too early when the dishes had not arrived. Still, none of these faults were enough to spoil the experience - I would still recommend Chez Moi for anyone looking for a French food fix."

  • "This was our second time dining here and probably our last. Both times we were seated in the back room, like second class citizens. The first time the main dining room was filled. However this time the main dining room was rented out to a private party on a SATURDAY NIGHT! Sorry but you won't see US again!"
    Dined on 5/17/2014
  • "Chez Moi is a super cute place and the staff is more than friendly. Although the french food is very good, it does not excel or compete with other French restaurants. But that's not the most important. The staffing and the attention to the customer was pretty bad. It took about 45 min to get our appetizers in, another 40 for our entrees, long time to get drinks, etc, etc...We were there for four hours which was way too long. The server again was super nice, but they had several ladies around not doing much...and we thought they could have taken our orders instead of waiting for the server. Again....nice restaurant, nice staff but so slow...too slow..."

  • "Our party of three enjoyed a delicious meal at Chez Moi over the weekend. The wine and cocktail list were impressive and so was our food. Our seafood dishes were delicious; perfectly prepared, seasoned, and presented. The restaurant became very busy midway through our meal and, unfortunately, the effects of the increased traffic were evident with our server. Nothing major but it was more difficult to find our waiter when we wanted to order dessert and when we wanted to pay our bill (it took quite a while for our waiter to produce a check at the end of our meal). Other than the spotty service, I'd highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely visit it again. "
