A word from Chez Melange
Spontaneity is the word of the day at Chez Mélange restaurant in the Riviera Village of Redondo Beach. Chef Robert Bell, co-owner, uses locally sourced and seasonal ingredients to craft a daily changing menu of world cuisine, with options ranging from pastas to sustainable fish to a bevy of pork choices. Michael Franks, front of house co-owner, will greet you with the hospitality that has made Chez Mélange a success for the past thirty years. Please also visit Bouzy, located next door to Chez Mélange. A neighborhood gastropub, Bouzy takes the best of a French brasserie, an English pub, and an American bar and grill using locally sourced and seasonal ingredients. With a seasonal selection of artisan beers and many wines by the quartino, Bouzy gastropub is Michael and Robert’s idea of the neighborhood pub. It started with a greeting from the trendy and friendly host who honored our table wishes with a smile Our server, who happened to be the son of the owner, was very attentive but not overbearing. And Michael Franks, whom I have know for years, was very cordial and interesting when he visited our table. It is one of the few restaurants left that is very classy with out being pompous and the atmosphere is splendid. A great date night venue. "

There are always pleasant surprises, but you have to be ready not to see the dish you have been craving since the last visit. The service is usually excellent, but the reason I only marked 3 start, was that during this visit our dinner drinks (the ones we ordered for main meal, not the appetizers) arrived quite late (we were almost done with our entrees). Never the less it was a lovely evening and we will be back."

  • "My friends and I went here to grab brunch. It was a tad expensive but it was well worth it. One of my friends has specific eating habits right now and our waitress Kelly was so accommodating and kind. I got the bottomless mimosas and Kelly made sure I got my money's worth. The food was really good. They change the menu everyday so I am interested in trying their dinner menu."

  • "Had dinner with a few girlfriends this past Saturday. None of us had been to Chez Melange for some time. The decor was sleek yet comfortable, the service was friendly & attentive (we were helped by the owners/parents & son - all so nice), and the prices reasonable. My friends loved the seafood stew and bistro salad, I enjoyed the mussels Provencale & roasted purple cauliflower. Dessert of sticky toffee pudding was "classic English". Highly recommend!"

The corn bread with bacon and maple was interesting, but I wouldn't choose it again. The baguette, by contrast, was excellent. We also had lobster roll, Chinese sausage, and cauliflower, all of which were good. The desserts were superb. The service was attentive."

We were there for Sunday brunch and I played it safe and had one if the more normal choices - bacon and eggs. It was fine - it's basic so I expect it would be good.   • "I've been eating at Chez Melange for at least 25 years, and in all that time there's never been a disappointment. When they moved to their new location a few years ago, I worried that there would be changes. But, I needn't have. The dining room continues to be tasteful without being stuffy, and the service is professional, attentive and -- most importantly -- warm and welcoming. The quality of the food, as well as the variety of options, is consistently excellent. Servings are ample; even those listed on the menu as medium-sized plates were as large as full entree portions at other restaurants. Wine selections are thoughtful and fairly priced. I love this place!"

  • "The bar was busy people were everywhere the noise level was high. I started to get stressed. The hostess checked us in and led us out of the bar around a corner and into a fabulous room in the back out of the noise. There were tables set with candles and dinners were being pampered by very attentive staff. We were led to a secluded corner by the time we reached our table the smiles on our faces were huge! We were happy to have a quiet area where just the two of us could chat over a bottle of champagne. The stuff shrimp was juicy and left me wanting more. The New York steak was tender and the potatoes were cooked and seasoned to perfection. Of course the desert (I had the chocolate pot) was pure heaven. We had a terrific time!"

  • "I had been meaning to check out Chez Melange for quite some time. I had read many positive things about it online and expected the dining experience to be wonderful. Unfortunately, there were a number of areas where this restaurant fell short. While our waiter had a lovely French accent, he would come at the most inopportune times - either interrupting our obviously intimate conversations - or leaving us with empty glasses / wondering where our meals were. I had the stuffed shrimp for my appetizer and the filet mignon for my main. The food was decent, but certainly nothing that would differentiate it from any other restaurant - and probably no better than what I could prepare at home. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant."

The food has always been delicious, and the brunch menu quite varied--that hasn't changed.   • "This Redondo Beach bistro and restaurant has a lot going for it. It's cute and cozy inside with nice lighting. The staff is super friendly. And the food was strikingly good and served in very generous portions at very modest prices. I am not a specialty cocktail kind of person but I did try their Old Kentucky Home drink and it was very good. Their "small plate" options are plenty large. The dish I had of bay scallops in a garlicky cream and herb sauce--baked with crumbled Ritz crackers on top--was wonderful and there were at least 2 dozen tender-as-can-be scallops in there. An entree of pork tenderloin served on a vegetable hash was also flavorful and there was so much of the hash I could not possibly finish it. Really good!!"

The reunion was covered in today's Beach Reporter, Redondo Beach newspaper, and Chez was mentioned. The food, as always, was superb, the service great, and the ambiance outstanding.
