Chez LomaPerfect Pre-Show Dining SpotWe dined at Chez Loma with another couple, prior to the Fiddler on the Roof show at Lamb's in Coronado. Chez Loma did not disappoint! Food was excellent as always. Lovely ambiance -- tastefully decorated, fresh flowers on the tables, white tablecloths. Highly recommended.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Experience! My wife and I loved the food and atmosphere. Next time we will dine more than once.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMJune 4 2013Very much enjoyed our Prix Fixe dinner. The food was very good. We especially liked the atmosphere - quiet, comfortable, and nice background music. Those things are hard to find in one restaurant. The service was excellent. Next time, I will order an appetizer - the main course portion of scallops left me a bit hungry.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic!Chez Loma is sure to be on the BEST OF list next year! Absolute perfection!
Chef Alex Martinez is the best thing to happen to Chez! The new owners truly understand relaxed and amazing fine dining!6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMDelightful LunchLoved all the different rooms which created an atmosphere of privacy as well as coziness. White linen table cloths, with fresh flowers and French music through out the restaurant was lovely. We had the steak tar-tare, and ceviche which was wonderful, and our server was friendly and attentive. The chef came to our table for a brief visit, which we also appreciated.
We are looking forward to a return visit!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMChez Loma is MemorableOne reason we chose to dine at Chez Loma was its proximity to the hotel where we were staying. But we found that we had discovered a French restaurant to rival some of the best in France. From the starters to the desserts, everything was excellent and the service was impeccable. The old house where the restaurant is located has been beautifully restored, providing a serene background for a most enjoyable meal.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThe beet salad is very good. The beet salad is very good. The scallops and the fish were both good. Both servers did a great job. The restaurant is convenient to both the Hotel Del and Lambs Theater. It's a home that was converted years ago so the restaurant has a lot of character.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious!Absolutely delicious dinner. A friend and I had a pre theatre dinner there and it could not have been better. Great service, pretty restaurant, and the food was perfect.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMI took my boyfriend to ChezI took my boyfriend to Chez Loma for his Birthday. We had a great time! From the ambience to the food to the service was excellent!!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMA Coronado FavoriteMy girlfriend and I have been to Chez Loma for dinner 4 times I think...loving it more each time. We especially like the intimate corner table in the tiny bar. I hesitate to rate the food outstanding but it is better than very good, and the service has always been top notch -- love this place.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGet the cevicheThe entire meal was fantastic, but the ceviche was truly amazing. Can't stop thinking about it.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service and french dip!The service is fantastic, ambiance is beautiful. I wouldn't recommend the curry chicken sandwich, but the french dip and onion soup are amazing. The sourdough bread is fantastic, too.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversary TreatMy wife and I decided to return to Chez Loma for our Wedding Anniversary because every time we have been there the experience was wonderful. The food and ambiance remind us of classic small restaurants in France; but with that distinctive Coronado vibe. It never fails to surpass its reputation!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMCoronado GemWe live in San Diego but go to Coronado specifically to eat at this restaurant since we first tried it. Very uniquely in a "house" with great food, great service and great atmosphere. The perfect place for a special occasion or just a romantic evening.
You will be surprised how reasonable the food and beverages are.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Fusion-French FoodWe enjoyed the fusion-French food at Chez Loma, and the bread (not baked on the premises) was superb. I had garlic sausage (again, not made on site), with fava bean puree, asparagus, and mustard. My companion had duck tacos with guacamole. Both were delicious. The service was a bit slow; the server seemed to have to do everything, from hosting to fetching to serving. The place is very pretty, a nineteenth century house with a porch (the bar) and several cozy dining areas. The only downside is the difficulty of parking without paying a fee to a garage. I had a coupon which I could not use due to my own lack of careful reading, but I did not care because I really want to go back.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMSo happy to return!Vowed to come back after eating here during an anniversary dinner with my wife last January. I was able to do so this week during a convention and brought 3 colleagues - they all loved it too! Great job on the duck and pepper steak. Looking forward to my next San Diego trip!5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect for quiet, romantic dinnerSeriously the best filet mignon I've had in a long time! The chocolate mousse was also super yummy, and the duck was delicious5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGood ambiance and service, food OKHad a pre-show dinner with friends in May 2013. The ambience was great - interesting old house. We were the only people in the 2nd floor dining room, which was very fresh & clean, well-lit, mostly white, with light breeze coming through the open windows. Service was attentive, but not annoying. Food was delivered quickly (pre-fix menu), but was a bit overpriced for just OK taste. Everything was fresh, but did not tickle any taste buds. Caesar salad was 3 uncut leaves of romaine, 2 tiny anchovies & shaved parmigiano - all dry. Beef bourguignon was ordinary, could not finish. My son was not at all impressed with steak & fries. Red wine pears (OK), Crème Brule (ordinary) & gingerbread (dry). May give it another try, just for atmosphere.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my first time diningThis was my first time dining at the restaurant. The food and service were excellent. It is worth the effort of going to Coronado.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMRoast DuckMy wife and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. Everything was great-food and service! My only complaint was the duck I ate was not crispy. Other than that we loved it!5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good food, exceptional serviceMy wife and I went to Chez Loma for our 10th wedding anniversary dinner. We were very impressed by the new decor and the service was exceptional. The beet salad and the pepper steak were wonderful.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic restaurant. FirstFantastic restaurant. First time trying escargot; delicious! We had steak and duck-- both entrees were cooked perfectly. We look forward to returning in the future!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat setting - "almost" foodWe are hopeful for this newly re-opened neighborhood restaurant. The interior of this old victorian is light and airy, greetings are warm and sincere and the menu interesting. So close, and yet I feel like the chef is trying a little too hard to go with the trends. Beef Bourguignon is wonderful and the scallops on cauliflower puree with orange coulis were perfectly cooked. However, the hard, heavy chewy bacon on the plate with the scallops were, as the french say, "de trops". More cauliflower puree (inspired)and baby fava beans and you have it made!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMHave been going here for yearsHave been going here for years and we love it! Highly recommended.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our first time underThis was our first time under the new management and it was great. we got engaged here
years ago and have had our anniversary dinners here and again it was great. Thank you
Stan and Justin and all the staff for a great evening.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMMemorable dining experienceMemorable dining experience complimented with great food preparation and presentation, nice wine selection, and attentive service.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThank you for making my birthdayMy husband and I went here to celebrate my birthday and both of us loved the experience. From the amazing food to the fantastic service from Sabrina, we will definitely be back any time we are in Coronado. Additionally, the other server and the hostess were incredibly nice and wonderful to talk to.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth a try.At one time Chez Loma was the best dining experience in Coronado, but they lost their way putting in the bar and loud music to attract more of the younger crowd. It became a really uncomfortable dining experience.
The new owners have greatly improved the physical plant in a subtle way and it once again is a comfortable place to dine. Its small and with the bar taking up its largest room has little hope of generating the volumn necessary to attract and keep first class talent.
While not back to its old standard, its worth a try.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA Hidden GemThis was our first time at this restaurant and we definitely will return. The old home feeling made it very comfortable and the smaller romm(s) gives it intimacy. We had "escargot" prepared in a very unique way (one of the best we have had) and the "roast duck" was just cripy enough and a great flavor. The waitress was very attentive yet gave us all the time we wanted. Great place to dine.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMA great place for a nice date.A great place for a nice date. The food is very good, especially for the price for comparable fare. They have some unique twists on French food. I had the Chilean Sea Bass and it was served on a bed of cauliflower puree. I normally don't like cauliflower, but their puree was so flavorful I had to soak up every last drop with bread. Wait staff is very friendly and it's just a cozy place to have dinner.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were here from ColumbusWe were here from Columbus Ohio and felt we had found a real local gem in Coronado.I always order sweetbreads when at a fine french style restaurant and these served with escargot did not disappoint.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was excellent - goodFood was excellent - good value. Server did a fine job. Ambiance is like an old Victorian home - classy but not stuffy.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMSublime snails..every dishSublime snails..every dish was perfectly prepared and delicious.. compliments to the chef!3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMHighly Recommend! We split the beet salad - 3 different colored beets and beautifully put on the plate. I had the duck with chopped cabbage and sweet potatoes. It was so good, that I didn't want it to end. I forgot what my wife had, but she said hers was fabulous. We split the chocolate pot de creme. Good-sized portion, smooth and it was quickly eaten. It was the best dinner!2/27/2013 12:00:00 AM
