  • "Chef Laurent Godbout Chez L'epicier is amazing. The $85 7-course tasting menu features a grilled scallop, seared fois gras with buckwheat, beef with sliced celeriac, grilled chicken with a mushroom purée, a cheddar raclette and a delicious vanilla bean, maple-syrup ice-cream with edelberry foam and cranberries. Each plate was so complex and rich with flavours, and each one was unique and eye-pleasing. The service was phenomenal! It was a rainstorm in Montréal so I ended up being the lone customer at 10pm, and they paid so much attention to detail. I felt like I was being served in my own home! Merci beaucoup pour un diner fantastique!"

Because of our disappointment with the wine pairing on Valentines Day, we made our own choices (with help from our server as to what food was coming) by the bottle and by the glass - worked out well for us."

Dans une ambiance romantique, il nous a été offert de déguster des plats tous plus savoureux les uns que les autres. Le seul petit bémol fût au niveau du service car il y a eu quelques longueurs et j'avais parfois l'impression que les serveurs manquaient d'expérience. Loin de moi l'idée de dire que le service était mauvais...au contraire, mais l'équipe ne prenait pas les devants concernant nos besoins (pain, eau, etc.)...et il nous avons dû parfois demander. C'est définitevement un endroit à essayer et à retourner!"

  • "I wouldn't give the rave reviews that many have left for this place but it was pleasant overall and well above average. My veloute starter with fois gras cream and hazelnut was a bit too thick in consistency. The filet mignon ordered medium-rare was more medium, and as a result, too dry in the absence of a little more sauce. My wife's white tuna starter was very tasty indeed, although the salad-cream inspired dressing sort of challenged her digestion during the night. Her scallop dish in a shredded pork and sauce mash was delicious, and like my steak, large enough to not get finished. The staff were polite, efficient, knowledgeable and accommodating, particularly as we asked for gluten-free variations on their dishes with no prior notice."

  • "I went here for Valentines days with a date and we both took the 'degustation menu' and also the wine 'degustation'. they told us there would be a total of 7 services, but from my count, we had like 10 different appetizers/main meals. Every course was delicious and we were served like kings! Seafood and meats were VEREY fresh, and the truffle soup was just amazing. additionally, they paired the perfect wine with each dish, and seriously, after leaving restaurant, I had a little trouble walking. All in all, it was just amazing and the food quality is comparable to that of Toqué and Europea. The total bill came out to a little under $400 plus tip; but for a food lover, the money was well spent!"

  • "We went this past weekend to try out their tasting menu. Not only was every dish served luke warm, it was basically seven courses of amuse-bouches with the guinea fowl plate serving half a ciopollini onion, a third of a breast and half a fingerling potato. Not only do we feel like we were under payed, we feel robbed. The decor was extremely confusing, exhibiting a whole lemon in a bowl of salt as the centerpiece of the table. We won't be going back and if you chose to go for the tasting, make sure you eat before you go."

Une merveille que ce velouté de haricots cocos parfum de noisettes et cretons au foie gras et jambon... Un rêve que ce flanc de porc braisé, jus d'érable et mousse de pomme de terre... et que dire de cette salade iceberg, la mal aimée de nos jours, qui reprend vie comme une princesse avec son œuf poché, sa vinaigrette à l'érable et ses copeaux de fromage Blackburn!!! Tous les plats sont à l'image de cette créativité, on aurait envie de tout goûter, comme des enfants!"

  • "Best part of the meal was the starter, a macaroon that had goat cheese. Entree was the Vegetable platter from Guylaine’s garden, chimichurri, black garlicaioli. Can't get any fresher than that and even served in a patch of grass. My husband doesn’t eat a lot of veggies, but he sure ate the veggie platter up. Main dish was the Confit salmon medallion, apple and mustard dressing, Champagne and yuzu caviar, spinach chlorophyll and lemon whipped butter. I live in the Pacific NW of the States, so I know good fish when I taste it the salmon was excellent. Dessert was the Medley of crèmes brûlées. Perfect for sharing and a great choice if you want a variety of flavors."

I am in the restaurant business myself, and usually end up disappointed cuz I am quite demanding. We had the menu degustation along with the wine pairing....and it was exceptional. This was Old Montreal dining at its best...I highly recommend it. Last time I had such a complete and tasteful French cuisine....I was at the Lancaster Hotel in Paris dining at its micheline 5 star restaurant. Bravo L'Epicier!!!!!!"

  • "We had organized a little party for my gf's birthday at a wine bar in the Old Port of Montreal and I wanted to take her out before. The set up was perfect, the place was very well situated and our table had a nice street view over holidays illuminated trees. The service was helpful and prompt, the food was refined, tasty and the combinations were very interesting. Rounded up the dinner with a gift basket from the restaurant so she can take the experience back home. Slightly costly but the experience is definitely worth it."

Le seul point negative est l'ambiance du restaurant qui gagnerait à créer de petites aires plus intimes. Malgré le décor magnifique, les tables sont disposees plutôt comme dans une cafeteria. Pas assez d'intimité. Retournerait pour la nourriture et le choix du menu mais pas pour l'ambiance."
