As a return visit, we were not disappointed in that the food, service, friendly atmosphere, and ambiance was as wonderful as it was in the several times we have dined here in the past. We will be making return trips as this is at the top of our list of fine dining.

My friend and I both enjoyed our first courses (Scallops; shrimp). Main course was just okay. He had the trout, I had the chicken. We both felt there was much too much butter involved. It was coagulating around my chicken! Same sides for trout and chicken...bland rice, green beans. Service was VERY slow. Yet the waiter tried to remove my plate before I was finished. I hate that!

Chez Leon is most likely a place to be seen as the prices bring in a more elite crowd. I've had French food at the Black Swan in Falmouth, MA & at Cafe Provencal in Clayton. The fare was much more enjoyable at Chez Leon than the afore mentioned. However, as good as the roasted chicken with truffle mushroom sauce was, it was overpriced at $30. The filet of beef tenderloin with bearnaise sauce was wonderful. However, I think I would have rather had Ruth's Chris for the ambience & dinner fare. The rice served with the meals was dry & crunchy. I'm not sure if that was the chef's intent. The baguettes were perfect. The service was only OK. I didn't feel overly welcomed, but it could be due to having our three young children with us.

As newcomers to the area, we had our first evening at Chez Leon tonight and absolutely loved it. The food was amazing -- trout and steak were superb and the mocha meringue was about the best dessert we have ever had. Our very gracious and attentive server (James) was terrific. We had read other things about what a great guy he is, and its all true. Attentive but not intrusive, and very very likeable. We are definitely going to be regulars. Excellent dining experience all around

I had the salmon with mustard cream sauce and it melted in my mouth--probably the most delicious piece of salmon I've had in a LONG time! The atmosphere is very sophisticated. I love the black walls and ceiling (which surprising don't make you feel like you're eating in a cave.)

We enjoyed our experience. Both the trout and lamb were excellent. The bacon chunks in the bibb lettuce salad were delicious but the salad as whole was, in my opinion, nothing special (thinking back, I wonder if the salad was prepared with too little dressing). On the other hand, my wife raved about how delicious the spinach salad was. The ambiance was nice. Something they did that was an interesting touch - they seated couples facing the same general direction. It made the restaurant seem very private.

My favorite restaurant in STL for a special dinner. We prefer to go there on week nights when it is less crowded. Last Thursday the place was about 2/3 full, excellent service (attentive but not smothering), and the food was wonderful. This place is old school in a good way. Wonderful sauces, fresh ingredients, and varied selections. Grilled salmon with mustard sauce and butter poached lobster were excellent. The prix fixe menu works well for us; we order one salad and one dessert with two appetizers and entrees. Pricey for STL, but less expensive than a trip to NYC or Chicago. No corkage on Tues/Weds.

I made reservations for two hours in advance of our SLSO time. Our waiter noted this at upon our arrival and made sure we had a leisurely enough experience that also moved along adequately. I enjoyed the coquilles St. Jacques (perfectly cooked), steak frites (the mirepoix that comes with entrees is not my favorite vegetable accompaniment, but the additional green beans were crisp and fresh) and the apple tatin. My friend loved her beet salad, salmon entree and Grand Marnier mousse. Wine by the glass was by request, but it was met cheerfully and with a perfectly delicious Pinot Gris. Water glasses were filled frequently and we were checked upon regularly. I would return for both the well-prepared food and the excellent service.

This was our first time dining at Chez Leon and we couldn't be more pleased with the delicious food, great service, and lovely atmosphere. Because it was our first visit, we chose the Prix Fixe, an excellent value. The canard a' l'orange was melt-in-your-mouth succulent and set off perfectly with the bits of orange. The grilled salmon was the best I've had since I lived in Alaska, but the entre' we all are still talking about was the Australian lamb! It was simply perfect. We also sampled the seared scallops with beurre blanc, the foie gras, and a lovely so-tender asparagus dish. The presentation of each dish was beautiful. Our server, James, was attentive, sweet, helpful and non- intrusive. The flourless chocolate cake was decadent!

Chez Leon is perfect for a quiet, very romantic dinner. The experience felt luxurious, but not opulent. The restaurant is in Clayton and the walls are dark with chandeliers and candles to light the space. The white linen is immaculate as they change for each new table. Our waiter, James, brought the perfect combination of subtlety and advice on our selections. He was able to inform of of the details on specific entree items we were interested in ordering, and his recommendation was very helpful. They were out of a lamb dish we wanted, but the escargot, steak, and a different lamb dish were wonderful and perfectly cooked. The flourless chocolate cake was heavenly. We were the last to leave, and enjoyed the dinner very much.

Chez Leon was a very nice restaurant. The staff were very professional and made the dining experience quite relaxing. The food was very good. My husband loved his salmon but I order the wrong thing. The veal was overcooked and tough. I didn't realize that it was breaded (my fault). The menu indicated veal with lemon and cheese. during our dinner the waiter never returned to the table to see how our dinner was. This question was asked when the table was cleared. We will give it another try and I will ask more questions about how the food is prepared.

The restaurant is wonderful. From previous experiences, I know how good Chez Leon can be. This experience was below par. Our waiter would completely disappear for long stretches. I ordered the Steak and Frites (medium on the steak). The steak was well done and charred on both sides. Not to mention that it sat for so long under the heat lamps that the plate was intolerably hot. My wife ordered the filet. It came over a rice bed. The plate sat so long under a heat lamp that the rice was dry and crunchy. I know that Chez Leon can do better than this, therefore I will give them another chance. If this had been my first experience then I probably would not return for a second time.
