  • "Delicious, but a bit heavy: pleasant bistro fare, not "Nordic" as they claim. Aquavit in New York City is Nordic; back cod with over-dressed greens and fried potatoes is not. I doubt I will remember what I ate a week later. Service was competent and cheerful. I was particularly impressed by how well they accommodated a gluten-free member of our group."

  • "The restaurant has a European feel to it, and yet the staff was very personable. Lobster ravioli was divine with chunks of lobster in the sauce. Roast chicken had a coq-au-vin type preparation which my husband devoured. Impressive wine list. Will definitely return when in Quebec City again! Merci!"

  • "We went to this restaurant looking for a place with good food near Place d'Youville. The space is pleasant enough (though very dark, hard to read menu) but the food was below the quality we expected for the price. The sauce on the steak was indifferent (and not very hot); the steak was a bit tough and not very flavorful; the fries were soggy; the soup needed salt; salad not much better than you'd get at a diner; and the service was inconsistent and slow. (I'm only rating it "fair" because they were nice.) Best thing we got was mussels, only OK. Several appetizers did not show up until we asked where they were, and we waited forever for our check. With all the great food options in Quebec City, I'd say give this one a miss. "

  • "We were visiting Quebec City over the New Years. The previous night we had had an out-of-this-world good dinner at a very traditional, white-tablecloth restaurant in town, which may be causing me to rate them down a star on food and service. The food was good, not great. Some dishes were tremendous (seafood gratin, apple dessert). My duck was boring & dry. His beef was well-prepared, but not a great cut of meat, and the broccoli side was also dull. The atmosphere, however, was really cool. It's a modern black-and-white space, which they had jazzed up with confetti stars and free 1920s hats for everybody for NYE. You are crammed in there like sardines, which was fun for NYE but might have been annoying had we been seeking "romantic.""

  • "This is a very nice brasserie in Quebec City. Nice ambience and food is good- reliable brasserie dishes well executed. Location just outside walled old city at Porte St. Jean. Our server was very attentive and great with our tween children. Only negative was that it took a while to get seated and order taken since the night was quite busy - and we had a reservation. I would definitely recommend the place. It is now a standard when we visit Quebec City."

  • "We had just flown into Quebec City on Christmas Day 2013. We knew very little about the area and it was very cold. We had done a little research through Open Table to find a restaurant that would be romantic, quaint, and with good food and found Chez L'Autre. What a teat we had when we arrived. Everything was perfect! We were greeted with such kindness (and patience with our lack of French language). We were treated like we were the most important people in the restaurant. They seated us right at the window so we could watch the ice skaters and the lights on the steps across at the performance hall. It was magical. We loved the mini pickles, the cocktails and the FOOD! A perfect night, a perfect meal and a perfect Christmas memory!"

  • "Reserved on what I thought would be a busy evening so I was pleasantly surprised that our party of two was offered the choice of two tables for four. That no one was placed beside us was a bonus as noise here could present a problem but on this evening, no complaints on that score. Very competent server. The food is fairly classic brasserie fare. The foie gras torchon was perfect for two to share and nicely presented. I would happily return to try a few more items on the menu."

  • "We booked a table in advance at Chez L'Autre based on positive reviews from others. It was a great choice to hit the spot without searching around for our first night in Quebec. The hanger steak with shallots was lovely- perfectly cooked and flavorful. It was a small portion of meat, helping me to enjoy every single bite and allowing me to make time for the crispy fries. The black pudding that my partner had was rich and deep in flavor, with a very well balanced sauce. The curly leaf salad with lardons and poached egg was perfectly dressed and seasoned. The "baked brie" seemed more like "fried brie" but that was more than welcome. We would definitely go back for a stress-free French meal at a reasonable price."

  • "We were there in the winter and they didn't hesitate to allow our stroller into the restaurant, knowing that the melting snow on the wheel would leave a mess. The service was fantastic, he food was very good, the space was very quite elegant. Our 3 year old wanted a dessert that they were sold out of and they physically left the restaurant to get the dessert from their sister restaurant nearby for us. We also dropped a baby bottle on the ground and left it behind without noticing and when we called the restaurant a few hours later it hadn't been found. I went back to look for myself but in the meantime the wonderful staff had got down on the ground and found it under the bench seating and then tried to call us back to inform us."

Our appetizers (escargot and baked Brie) were ok, some escargot were huge and chewy others were afraid to come out of the shell and we had to dig. The duck confit and steak frites were very flavourful and cooked perfectly. For dessert, the Creme brûlée was exceptional. Service was attentive and fairly knowledgable however, I feel strongly that restaurants should not allow staff to wear perfumes or cologne at work. We are coming to enjoy the flavours of the food and drink and heavily scented staff can tarnish that experience when your server is in such close proximity. Overall a nice time, thank you."

  • "The restaurant was very nice and charming and the staff was quite friendly and accomodating. My dinner was very nice, I ordered the lamb chop and it was terrific. My Girlfriend however had the Organic Salmon patte and it was un-eatible. Seemed like the chef added far too much mayonaise and it overwhelmed the taste. We did mention it to the waiter, however he made no effort to provide anything else as an alternate. All in all it was a nice evening, and I would try it again."

The food was outstanding and I cannot thank Caroline enough for the wonderful service that she provided us. Plus she offered us recommendations on places to visit during our stay.   • "Excellent restaurant avec un service personnalisé offrant de très bons conseils pour le choix des plats. Maxime nous a offert un excellent service toute la soirée. Vue directe sur le Palais Montcalm et la patinoire extérieure (hiver). Décoration et aménagement en multiples salles, ce qui permet de conserver une intimité. Y retournera à un prochain voyage dans la belle Capitale Nationale. Merci à toute l'équipe."
