Maitre D had no clue we had an open table reservation. Food server was brain-less kept bringing our table the wrong order. Served my wife's salad 5 minutes before my salad. Had to continuly ask for water to and drinks to be refreshed. Valet parking attendant was no where to be found so I self-parked in the lot. Parking attendant came out of the back with food in his mouth demanding my keys. After dinner parking attendant agin MIA I was stuck for a full 5 minutes (he had my key)
Place should be leveled and rebuilt with new people.

The food was very good but the service was pretty bad. The servers lacked any personality and dinner was rushed. I was really surprised that they told us that people were waiting for a table and wanted us to get up. I have never experienced that before. It was a special occasion and the bill was well over a hundred dollars. I understand the casual atmosphere, but they should give their customers a little more respect .

Very small restaurant/bar that has been on Ocean Avenue in Santa Monica for 52 years. It was dated and small, but the food was awesome and the drinks were very good. The plus for us was that it was within walking distance of the Santa Monica Pier. I will go again.

Went there for first time on Valentine's night so our experience may not be representative of other times. It was very crowded and we were seated at the worst place in the restaurant ... a large table near the server station in back with a cheesy wooden divider between us and the other couple at the table. We didn't get a lot of attention from the staff and the halibut that I had was not very tasty. If we ever go there again, which I don't plan on, the steak looked like a better choice.

I have been going to Chez Jay's off and on for over 25 years. I have always ordered their Sand Dabs and am never disappointed. Dinners are complete with soup or salad and potato or rice. I definitely recommend their scalloped potatoes which have a little bit of banana mixed in. They are unique and very good. Our server was all business and no charm, but the food made up for the lack of character in our waitress.
