Chez HenriGreat FoodHad a great experience at Chez Henri. The menu is small but everything is fantastic. I had the swordfish special - very soft and tender - yummy! Food presentation and service are great as well.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMService wasn't as polishedService wasn't as polished as I expected. Our server had a hard time telling us correct information-for example, he told us at every course that you were out of an item, then returned 30 sec later to tell us it was actually a *different* item. We didn't understand the description of one special item, and he told us that it was covered in cayenne pepper. (It was not covered with anything at all.) He entered an order from our party incorrectly: Bouillabaisse instead of boulettes. He told us very obvious things with sincere earnestness (eg., "I apologize for the long wait for your food to arrive. I bring it to you when it is ready." We thought he was going to offer us something special - not just the expected service.)6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMChange is not always for the betterMy husband and I have gone to this restaurant, through changes of management, for decades. It's comfortable and the food is generally imaginative and tasty. There are off nights, but they are rare. However, since they did some "improvement" to the floor, the noise level has risen to a level that sometimes makes conversation challenging. The place has also become depressingly--and not romantically--- dark. I think some Cambridge ordinance against candles might be part of that, but the restaurant also stopped lighting the lights over the paintings on the sides of the room. Less noise and somewhat more light (to the level it used to be) would be a great improvement.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMChez Henri shinesThe French Onion soup was out of this world.
Steak cooked to perfection and served in a pleasing manner.
The oysters etc. must have been delicious (my companions cleaned up the plate!)
Dessert choices were good - chocolate mousse was delectable.
It was priey as expected.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat atmosphere, decent mealWent for dinner and cocktails with a friend. Good cod cake appetizer and decent drinks. Special of the night (pork) a little overcooked. Generous amount of tasty lobster bisque. Mousse had hints of coffee that I enjoyed and she didn't (more for me!). Will Learned that they only serve cubano sandwich (a speciality) at the bar, so will eat on that side next time.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, though a prettyGreat food, though a pretty limited menu. We went a bit late, and they seem to stop serving relatively early (they close at 10:30pm, and we couldn't get more bread at 10:15 on a Friday night)4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was sadly quite empty,It was sadly quite empty, even for a Thursday night.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMI took my friend here forI took my friend here for her birthday and we had a fantastic time. The food was absolutely delicious! The staff was friendly and accommodating. And the ambiance was warm and inviting. My only complaint was the noise level. It got a bit loud at times but that just may have been the people on either side of us.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic DiningThis is our fifth time at Chez Henri and we know its a fantastic restaurant but we still get blown away everytime we dine here.
The Mussels Mariniere was excellent, Fresh and plump mussels in an aromatic and tasty cream broth. Crispy Salt Cod Cakes were light and delicious. the Bouillabaisse was fantastic. The seafood was so fresh and the broth with its slight 'bite' to it was oh-so-good. The pan roasted chicken breast was the best I've ever had. I normally shy away from chicken breast at restaurant for fear of it being overdone and dry. Not here. The breast was juicy, the pan juice reduction was rich and the accompaniments were excellent. Our Compliments to the Chef and staff for another wonderful experience!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and drinks were slowFood and drinks were slow coming and the waiters were a bit too eager to take away the plates. For the amount we spent I expect to sit and enjoy my meal without being asked 5 times if I am done. Look at the position of my knife and fork for a clue.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a Valley classic andThis is a Valley classic and should not be missed bringing a little bit of the European dining experience to Vermont. Ski-in, ski-out for lunch or enjoy a very friendly fine dining experience for dinner.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMMore Paris Than Porter SquareThe food is both classic and innovative. The room is elegant and charming in an old fashioned way that's more Paris than Porter Square. CH more expensive than most of its neighbors, but not ridiculously so, and the experience is more distinctive.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMI feel sad that I've missedI feel sad that I've missed all these years I could have been trying out Chez Henri. It really succeeds well at being a neighborhood bistro. Everything we tried was wonderful.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Service-Good (not Great) FoodWe enjoyed our visit to Chez Henri with great service and ambiance supporting good, not great, food. For a French-style restaurant I was shocked to find mainly West Coast U.S. wines on the menu. I was looking forward to a great French wine. The food among the four in my party ranged from fair to very good. Very good being the steak and fries. One disappointment was the creme brulee, again especially (un)notable given the French inspiration.
I was very pleased with the service, which was quick, accurate, and unobtrusive. Our server was friendly, professional, and quick witted. For all the reputation and effort put into service, I expected to be more impressed with the food.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and service.Excellent food and service. Our restaurant week meal was super and a great value. We'll be back!3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMA First Time ExperienceI took advantage for Restaurant Week for the first time and Chez Henri was recommended. I had never tried French cuisine before and I enjoyed the experience. I found the restaurant a nice cozy spot for just the two of us as well as for a group of more. My friend and I will definitely be returning in the near future.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMMOre French than Cuban, butMOre French than Cuban, but with lovely Cuban touches, bits of lime and orange with the flounder almondine, for example . . . tostones with a salsa fresca, spiced frites with the steak . . . everything quite rich, very delicious. Service is impeccably professional and knowledgeable.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMA special place for fine diningWe had old friends visiting from Canada and decided to make it our opportunity to try out Chez Henri, which had been recommended to us by neighbours as we live just around the corner. We had great service, great cocktails, and incredible food.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious French bistro diningFirst time dining at Chez Henri's prior to a concert at Harvard's Sanders Theatre in Cambridge. My wife and I each had one of the two prix fixe dinner specials. I had a salad for starter and she had the leek and pear tart. She had roast chicken and I had flounder almondine. For dessert I had a delicious tart and she had a coconut sorbet. Service was excellent and the dinner was delicious. We arrived just as the dining room opened and it filled quickly on a Saturday night. We will definitely return again.1/26/2013 12:00:00 AMChez hewnri continues to impressChez hewnri continues to impress me with the high quality of its food and service. My latest visit was a birthday dinner (and there was one at the next table too), and it didn't disappoint. Everyone loved their meal. Chez Henri actually has some of the best chicken dishes around--beautifully and perfectly prepared. Three cheers. Four stars!1/9/2013 12:00:00 AMThe prix-fixe special hereThe prix-fixe special here is one of the great bargains in town. Excllent choice of appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Thoughtufl but unintrusive service.12/7/2012 12:00:00 AM
