  • "We had a nice evening- the restaurant was busy but service was pleasant and attentive. The food was ok and while nothing was glaringly bad, I started with a recommended appetizer that was not memorable & my Dover sole entree was so salty and does not favorably compare to other experiences. A chocolate mousse desert was good, but again not compared to others. I would recommend knowing that this is a quaint alternative for a special occasion in terms of ambiance but not recommended for a foodie. Very nice staff though- everyone was friendly and helpful."

  • "The atmosphere and service is what we could expect from a high level French restaurant. The food was not. I had the scallops and the the sole with almonds. The scallops were perfectly cooked but they were served on a tasteless mashed potatoes. There was so much of this preparation that it was difficult to reach the mushrooms under it. This is not was scallops in the shell are supposed to be. The sole with almonds was a little better, it was literaly soaking in butter though and had nothing exceptional. Later, we learner that the former sous-chef left to open his own restaurant about a year ago, and that the quality had started to decrease after that."

  • "Unfortunately we started the evening by being seated almost a half hour after our scheduled reservation. The restaurant changed our Open Table reservation from 8:00 to 8:30, a couple of days before we went, and then seated us at almost 9:00. After that, the food and service on the patio were great. Possibly the restaurant should leave more than 2 hours between seatings so guests have more time to linger, and won't keep the next guests waiting so long to be seated."

  • "We were celebrating our 50th anniversary so it was a very special evening for us. Everyone at Chez Francois helped to make it a wonderful dining experience. Our waiters Jim and Craig were personable and prompt. They offered wonderful suggestions for our dining pleasure. We finished the evening with beautiful celebratory presentations for dessert. It was truly a dining experience we will never forget!"

  • "Dinner on the river/canal front terrace, twice during a vacation trip to and from the east coast and northern Wisconsin in August - casual, very pleasant, albeit somewhat noisy, crowded and hectic on the Friday and Sunday evenings that we were there. The in-door dining room is undoubtedly quieter, more sedate and more intimate. Given the restaurant's very pleasant setting and the small town, holiday atmosphere of Vermilion, I can understand its popularity. Nonetheless, its rank as Zagat's "highest rated" restaurant in Ohio is a bit surprising. Dishes that we had during our 2 visits were all very good to excellent but, in some cases mannered and not quite at a level consistent with their expense. "House" wines were well chosen and excellent."

  • "I choose this restaurant anytime I have an excuse for a special occasion dinner, especially in the summer. Food and view are fabulous. Very relaxing and casual, like no place else in northeast Ohio. I cannot say enough great things about this restaurant! While the food is French and certainly upscale, the service is friendly and down to earth, a rare combination in my book."

  • "We had not been to Chez Francois in probably 10 years, and back then I t was for our wedding anniversary. We went back earlier this month and had a great time. Food was excellent, and our server, Leah, was outstanding. I liked the fact that we were not rushed to leave. Staff was very friendly. Again, our dinner was amazing. It was nice of them to know that we were there celebrating our anniversary."

  • "The easiest way to sum up Chez Francois is "wonderful". The service is impeccable. Great location. Our servers (Michael & Michael) were nearly perfect & certainly added to our experience. Great wine list from modest to exotic. The food was very good. My beef wellington wasn't exactly as I remembered it. It is "deconstructed" and I prefer the real deal (I know what a pain that is for the Chef to make) Corn chowder appetizer with scallop is to die for. Overall an outstanding restaurant and I doubt you will be disappointed. Inside dining room decor cozy and dark (jacket required) Outside a great deck and covered patio. Also a great martini bar. Different food outside the main dining room, but I'm sure good. The dinner menu inside only."

  • "We enjoyed the special attention paid by the staff on the occasion of our wedding anniversary. They had an anniversary card signed by the staff at our table and the chef wrote greetings in chocolate on our dessert dishes. The staff was very attentive without hovering. We enjoyed the atmosphere and food. There is a very high concentration of Seafood on the menu. This indoor seating is formal and wonderful for a special evening. The outdoor seating we observed was more casual. What a gem!"

  • "We recently dined inside at Chez Francois for a celebration of my birthday and our anniversary. When we arrived, We were given a beautiful anniversary card signed by all the staff. We both were intrigued with the history of the building and liked how the room was decorated. It had very nice ambiance. Our waitress, Leia, was fantastic and we enjoyed her helper as well. Both our servers were professional, knew the menu and ingredients of each item offered, were friendly and helped to make our visit special. We enjoyed our food and the wine choice, picked by Leia, was excellent. From start to finish, we had a memorable time. (Noise level was minimal, great spacing between tables!)"

  • "We have eaten at Chez Francois many times, and have always loved it for special occasions. This time, though, my grouper was overcooked and dry; and I was disappointed in the rather rushed service our waiter and waitress (was never sure which; they seemed to alternate) appeared to labor under. Everything else was fine; my husband's dinner was excellent. Chez Francois is very expensive, but the cost has always been worth it until now. I hope next time it will meet its high standards again."

  • "We came up for the weekend with our daughter and have a wonderful time! We live in Cincinnati and Chez Francois was recommended a couple years ago and we were not disappointed. Upon deciding to visit Cedar Point and Sandusky, we immediately made our reservation and we thrilled that they could accommodate us on a Sunday night. We LOVED the stuffed zucchini blossom special, lobster bisque, wellington and veal chops! Our server was friendly but very knowledgeable and professional. We requested the patio and enjoyed the view of the Vermillion lagoons and boats going by. We'll be back!"

  • "We have been to this restaurant many times, but rarely on a Saturday night. We had friends from out of town and we wanted them to experience one of the best dining establishments in the area. The fact that it was quite busy made the service slower than normal and the wait staff was quite rushed and made some mistakes. However, the food was very good and the scenery on the water was beautiful. Just be prepared to dine leisurely if you visit the restaurant on a good weather weekend in the summer."

  • "We have eaten here several times over the past couple decades and have considered this one of our favorite restaurants in the USA. This time our visit was mixed. The complementary amuse bouche, the appetizers (lobster ravioli) and side salads were all excellent. However, our entrees left a bit to be desired. The snapper was bland although helped by the apple topping. The puff pastry on the Beef Wellington was underdone while the truffled mushrooms and foie gras were a bit sparse and served alongside rather than on top of the filet. The filet itself was fine. When we informed our server about the entrees, he provided us with excellent desserts (chocolate mousse cake slices.) We also enjoyed an excellent California cabernet."

  • "We live an hour from the restaurant, but it was well worth the drive. I was there for an anniversary and it seemed the whole staff knew and was there to make it a wonderful night. The food was excellent, the ambiance was comfortable for a "dressy" restaurant (we ate in the dining room), and for a rather large dining area extremely quiet due to great acoustics. Surprisingly the prices were not outrageous for the quality of food and attention to detail. I guess my only "complaint" would be my wife's (second) drink order took a while to arrive, and the crumbs were removed when we were finished and not between courses, but that's being really picky. Great restaurant - I can't wait to go back."

  • "We started with drinks in Touche and were impressed by the very friendly and fun atmosphere. Our table was perfectly situated next to the water and a spectacular view of the boats going by. We love the Escargot and lobster stuffed zucchini blossom appetizers. The steaks are always cooked perfectly and my fresh salmon entree was light and fresh. Save room for dessert. All of the options are winners AND served with a specially paired wine. We only get out to Chez Francois about once a year, yet come home raving and promising to return more often. This dining experience is worth every penny - a gorgeous setting, highly professional wait staff, attentive service and delicious food you'll remember for months!"

  • "Chez Francois is a gem nestled on the river of the quant fishing village of Vermilion. Having travelled across the US I have yet to find a place that provides so much character with such exquisite food and wine pairings. Perfect for the food connoisseur, group parties, or just a couple celebrating a special milestone in their journey together. Go for a meal but stay for the evening and enjoy the ambiance that is dining at Chez. A few suggestions if I may: Lobster Bisque and lobster-stuffed zucchini blossoms are two must haves (as are the soft shell crabs), outside dining is always spectacular, and plan on enjoying a few hours of dining bliss when you sit at the table (if time is an issue, Touché upstairs offers an abbreviate menu)."

I've dined here for years and have frequented their specialty dinners/events and know the mood and atmosphere they promote, Friday night was amature hour for the staff at Chez."

  • "We had a magnificent dinner of seasonal zucchini blossoms, the charcuterie platter, lobster bisque, lobster thermidor, sweetbreads and filet mignon (among 4 people). Our 10-year old son and his 85-year old grandmother were both treated so well by the staff - always respectful and helpful. The food is always perfectly cooked, seasoned and plated; and this time was no exception. We come every year when we visit my mom in Ohio - our only regret is they don't have a sister restuarant in NC - we would be there all the time."

  • "Had the salmon meal. The lobster bisque was so rich and full of meaty chunks I ate every bite, even though it was so over peppered for my taste I am still feeling the effect days later. My salad was great. The salmon dish was over the top delicious. It was cooked perfectly. I loved the sauce and seasoning, the cabbage, the petite summer squash, and even the mashed potatoes. My cheese cake desert was melt in your mouth yummy. Didn't get a good sense of the ambiance out on the deck, but the view looking north on the river was very pleasant and relaxing. Our waitress was great and the overall service was very good considering how busy they were. We plan to make this our regular special occasion restaurant."

  • "Usually, this is our favorite restaurant to splurge on a great meal for our anniversary or other special occasion. Our waiter, whom we've encountered before, was rude to us. He was very attentive to other guests in his section, but he acted like we were beneath him. My lobster bisque was good, but the puff pastry on the top was burnt in spots and the temperature of the soup was much too hot. My husband and I both had beef wellington for our entree. This time, concerning both our meals, the puff pastry was underdone and soggy. I'm hoping this was just an off night."
