A word from Chez Francois - Vermilion
"If your a serious foodie" or "if romance is calling, sail on up" - literally - to this "French gem" on the Vermilion River, where the "sumptuous" menu and "professional but friendly" staff earn it the top rating from Food and Service in the Cleveland area; "well worth the drive" west of downtown , this "ethereal experience" (the perfect place to propose!") also includes a phenomenal wine list", "charming old world dining room" and "relaxing" riverfront cafe. Proper attire required. Touché a martini/wine bar was opened in 2007 and offers a "small plates" menu and a great selection of adult beverages.Continued

  • "We liked this restaurant very much. From the setting to the ambiance to the service, and especially to the food, this is an outstanding place. It is certainly worthy of its reputation and accolades."

  • "Great dinning experience. Would definitely return and recommend it."

  • "Had the salmon meal. The lobster bisque was so rich and full of meaty chunks I ate every bite, even though it was so over peppered for my taste I am still feeling the effect days later. My salad was great. The salmon dish was over the top delicious. It was cooked perfectly. I loved the sauce and seasoning, the cabbage, the petite summer squash, and even the mashed potatoes. My cheese cake desert was melt in your mouth yummy. Didn't get a good sense of the ambiance out on the deck, but the view looking north on the river was very pleasant and relaxing. Our waitress was great and the overall service was very good considering how busy they were. We plan to make this our regular special occasion restaurant."

  • "Usually, this is our favorite restaurant to splurge on a great meal for our anniversary or other special occasion. Our waiter, whom we've encountered before, was rude to us. He was very attentive to other guests in his section, but he acted like we were beneath him. My lobster bisque was good, but the puff pastry on the top was burnt in spots and the temperature of the soup was much too hot. My husband and I both had beef wellington for our entree. This time, concerning both our meals, the puff pastry was underdone and soggy. I'm hoping this was just an off night."

  • "The entire cast, from wait staff to kitchen, makes the experience memorable.every time. This is what it takes to consistently rank at the top of all dining establishments in the state. Thanks, Matt, for your consistent excellence."

  • "We had a group of 4 that dined and had beverages outdoors at Touche. Great food, great views and great service. It was our first time there, but we will be back."

  • "From the quiet smooth elegance of being seated to the seamless and on the spot service of our waiter Curtis, we were treated to the full Chez Francois experience and, of course, the food was sublime. We started with a bottle of reasonably priced Veuve Cliquot (yellow label) and Chef D'Amico's delicious amuse bouche and then the shrimp cocktail with colossal shrimp that is enough for two. My love had the grouper and I had the lamb both of which were difficult to eat slowly to enjoy the succulent delights of the meal. A shared dessert of caramel moulee and 10 year tawny port finished yet another wonderful experience. I look forward to my next visit very soon. If you find you can't enjoy dining here, you really need to check your pulse."

  • "I've dined at chez Francois for several special occasions and I've never been disappointed. Everything is spectacular! Great food. Great service. Dining on the patio during the summer is an especially enjoyable experience. The staff is knowledgable, patient and extremely courteous. I drive over an hour to dine there and it's worth every second of my valuable time. Thanks for being consistently wonderful."

  • "Our service was poor, as we waited almost 20 minutes to be welcomed. Disappointing Our server spoke of personal money problems. Food was good, lobster Thermidor was disappointing. Overcooked. Beef Wellington was fantastic."

  • "We made our annual 1.25 hour quest to Vermillion from Lake County this past Saturday with another couple for their patio dining experience which is much more casual than the dining room. As always, the food was creative, flavorful and served hot from the kitchen in a timely well balanced format that doesn't leave one feeling either hurried or waiting. A couple negatives in service (a first I might add) - - they totally forgot our amuse bouche and instead of asking us the type of cheese we preferred for our salads, they just randomly brought us two of each hoping we'd all be satisfied splitting them up. I know this seems trite, but it's not typical of their service."

  • "We arrived at our reservation time of 6:30 exactly at Touché. The host informed us they were full and no table was available. I noticed open tables and asked for one of them. He told me they were reserved for other 6:30 reservations. I responded we are here they are not, I suggest you seat us. He tried to seat us in the crowded hallway. We ended up in the noisy bar."

  • "My husband found this restaurant by word of mouth. I then looked it up online and made reservations. This was definitely a 5 star restaurant both in terms of service and food. Wide selections of cocktails and wines. Amazing appetizers. Many specials were offered, but we chose the veal medallions with shrimp, scallops and lobster. Dessert was paired with a fine and came to us with an candle and Happy Anniversary written in chocolate. We were even give an anniversary card signed by the staff. Can't wait to return to try some of the other menu items."

  • "Upon being seated we were presented an anniversary card signed by at least a dozen employees. Very warm welcoming. Sat outside right next to the Vermillion River. Touche is the outdoor dining where it is more casual (no suit coat), but same menu as inside. First, a complimentary welcome gazpacho with avocado foam on top. Simply delicious and refreshing. Had a lobster & scallop appetizer. Lobster thermador and filet for dinner. Delicious! For dessert we split a decadent chocolate cake. The owner's daughter wrote in chocolate "Bon Anniversary" on the top of the plate. Our meal was exceptional. Service was outstanding. Our servers we very personable and knowledgeable of the entire menu. We will definitely be back!"

  • "This is probably the best Restaurant you can go to for a birthday or anniversary. Its really very very good. Its about 30 minutes west but worth the drive. Its really a fantastic white table cloth dining experience. Very nice wait staff, very friendly, expensive but not unreasonable. The menu is very good, lot of things you will not see elsewhere and some familiar classics. French of course. We will be back for sure."

  • "Calling dedicated foodies who can distinguish Camembert from Gorgonzola and what's more, care which is which. Chez Francois offers French flavor (truffles, real ones!) and chic auberge ambiance with professional flair. Wines and cuisine definitely lean towards the gourmet end while offering several choices of venue. Go to Touche for a casual but elegant meal, or try the riverside deck for a real gustatory experience. Eonophiles will love the ipad wine list--more like a novella. Don't rush your time there."

  • "We sat on a riverside porch which was fun. Next time,if there is one, we will go inside the elegant dinning room. This is an interesting place with "best restauarant" reputation. We did not find it so.The deserts, were outstanding The Lamb Rack was very good. The two veal "scallop" dishes were actually veal medallions which is ok since they were quite good. One was a saltimbocca preparation and the other a Veal Oscar. The cuts and the sauces had a similarity that suggested less than a super creative chef at work. Never-the-less we all enjoyed our main courses. The appitizers of soft shell crabs however were not good. They were small, limp and ill prepared. That for $16 each. All told, the meal was expensive, good but not close to value ."

  • "Great food, great service, great wine list. What else is there?"

  • "Chez Francois always provides world class food and the dining room is beautiful. Only complaint was a few house flies and a fruit fly that kept buzzing our table. With it being summer, we realize these things can happen. Overall, a great dining experience."

  • "We have eaten several times at Chez Francois & never have been disappointed. This includes occasions when there was just two of us & times when we had a dozen people in our group. The food is invariably top-notch, the staff friendly, courteous, & knowledgeable, & the wine list is extensive. The use of a notebook for the wine list is very handy, allowing an in-depth description of each vintage. This is much better than the old "point & guess" method of selection. Definitely a go-to venue for fine dining."

  • "What an incredible dining experience we had. The ambiance, the service, the spectacular food! I could go on an on. Definitely a special occasion place as the menu is pricey but so worth it!"

  • "That a five star French restaurant exists, no, flourishes in Ohio would appear to be a geographic, a cultural impossibility."

  • "I have heard how amazing this restaurant is. Everything was great and I had expected to pay a hefty penny for dinner BUT I gotta say, the food quality didn't fit the bill. My lobster claws were overcooked and chewy without much favor. The breaded veal was good but not outstanding. The scallops were the best part. Not a $38 meal. The app was good as well but again, not outstanding."

  • "Dined at Chez Francois several times- always great. Except the lobster in my thermidor was very tough - was it frozen?"

  • "I booked our dinner about 6 weeks out and kept trying to get a reservation outside and in the less formal part of the restaurant. I finally called and was told it was all good. Fortunately they were able to accommodate our party of 4 since we were there at 5:30 and the tables outside wee not to be occupied untill 7:30. I still felt like my attempt to make it all work with the outside tables were not available to do on open table. In the end it all worked out great but a not smooth transaction. However the food was fantastic ."

  • "This was our third time dining at Chez Francois and everything was wonderful as usual. Our wait staff was awesome, the only reason I didn't give an outstanding was that we had a reservation at 8:30pm, and we didn't get to sat at our table until 9pm or after. I know they can't help if the table before sits there with their check, but an offer of bread or something right away might have been a good gesture as we were starving. This would not stop me from recommending Chez to family and friends though. The atmosphere is great for both a romantic night out or a gathering of friends that like to experience fine dining at its best. We had several first timers in our group, and they all thouroughly enjoyed their meals as well."
