A word from Chez Foushee
Chez Foushee opened in the Fall of 1989 as a small deli and catering operation offering carry-out and boxed lunches. As business continued to flourish a number of renovations occurred and the entire building was purchased in the Fall of 1995. Located in historic Monroe Ward, just blocks from the venerable Jefferson Hotel, we are situated close to downtown and the Broad Street arts district. Chez Foushee offers lunch and carry-out weekdays, as well as dinner every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. We offer brunch Sunday mornings. Our menus change seasonally with an emphasis on fresh, local and sustainable ingredients. On site catering is available Monday – Thursday for private dinner and cocktail parties. Semi-private dining is offered on Friday and Saturday evenings. Please inquire about full-service offsite catering.Continued

  • "Never a disappointment !!! Food, service always terrific !! My husband especially enjoyed the oysters in cream sauce - he wishes this was on the menu more often !! We always leave the restaurant looking forward to our next visit."

  • "A happening adult ambiance for a romantic evening, conversation, or impressing a special someone. I loved the way they preserved the original foundation of the house. It's classic architecture joining with modern day kitchen marvel. My utmost compliments to the chef. Everything on the menu was delicious. I highly recommend the shrimp and grits with the salmon for an entree. I recommend going in the evening, the sunset view is to die for!! Highly recommend to make reservations early. Although not a club, the place does get crowded. A perfect combination of food, ambiance, and service."

  • "This is my favorite lunch spot. The space is great. The food is always good. The service is outstanding! They have my favorite dessert of all time....the lemon butter cake......I love taking friends there to experience that cake for the first time."

  • "This was a last minute pick for us and it couldn't have been better! Date night - romantic dinner and the theatre. We were very impressed with Chez Foushee and are definitely going back. The food was great, all of it."

  • "Food was delicious and the service attentive as usual. And the brussels sprouts and lemon cake always deliver a delicious punch! Duck breast was superb. Three of us would have ordered the salmon special but by 7:30 it was no longer available which seemed like poor planning.......oh well. .......we will be back soon! It was quite busy due to pre theater diners and perhaps that contributed to the shortage of salmon.....lol !"

  • "Each course was unique, tasteful, and elegantly served. Brussel sprout salad was to die for, steak seasoned to perfection, but save enough room to savor the lemon cake for dessert, even if you have to share it. One of our favorite places for ambience, and service was once again outstanding as well."

  • "My wife and I had been to Chez Foushee several times for dinner and always loved it. We wanted to share it with the rest of the family, so had brunch there on 3/23. They do not have a kids menu, but at brunch it's pretty easy to find something for them. When we arrived at 11:45, there was only 1 other table occupied, but by 12:30 it started to get a little busier. The kids fell in love with the Pain Perdu. My French Dip Baguette was perfectly prepared and tender. The turkey, bacon and pimento cheese on grilled rye was a little messy, but oh, so good. The creole shrimp scramble was top-notch, too. Great server - polite and helpful."

  • "This is a very charming looking restaurant -- well designed and appointed, intimate and warm. The salad I had, overwhelmed with 2 big honking slabs of pickled celery root, was awkward and over dressed. Eating lentils with a fork is not easy! The main course, a grill of sweetbreads, veal and sausage, was delicious and well sauced. And the pear/celery root puree was very good. The dessert, the lemon butter cake, is more a cheesecake and definitely on the heavy, sweet end of the dessert spectrum. The service, though very kind, was tentative and not knowledgeable."

  • "Chez Foushee, is in our view, the best restaurant in Richmond hands down. Every plate that comes out of their kitchen is fresh, creative, delicious and pretty. They have an especially fine touch with seafood. Their desserts are fabulous and the lemon butter cake is absolutely the best dessert I have ever had and my husband thinks the same. The service is always prompt, polite and attentive. Chez Foushee really sets the standard for others to aspire to."

  • "Love the easy access and NY like feeling. Small, intimate, attentive service and some unique food choices. Wonderful spot for brunch on Sundays for us church folk and weekday lunch and occasional dinner. Always bring guests. And relatively intimate and quiet."

  • "My sisters and I dined here on a recent trip to Richmond. We were looking for great food with a relaxing atmosphere where we could dine at leisure and talk. Chez Foushee certainly delivered. For the most part the food was excellent, the service impeccable, and we were not rushed at all. I can highly recommend the duck. It was duck breast served on grits with a small sliver of foie gras. The sauce was delicious and the breast cooked to perfection. The flash fried oysters as a starter were wonderful. The only downside was the pork. It was overcooked and tasteless. The waiter took it back, but not graciously. The wine list was below par. So, not perfect but worth trying again."

  • "Great atmosphere, very classy yet comfortable. Attentive service, friendly staff and owner. And the food was wonderful--had brunch and portions were very generous and delicious! We let them know we were heading to a play after and they were very fastidious about making sure we were on time:)"

  • "We have tickets for both Broadway in Richmond and the Richmond Forum, both held at the Landmark Theater. Before virtually every one of these events we enjoy dinner at Chez Foushee. It has become our favorite Richmond area restaurant. The menu varies from visit to visit, every entree we've ever had there has been excellent and there are always a variety of entrees to choose from. The wine choices are good and the desserts are always tempting (and excellent when we succumb). The restaurant is intimate but comfortable and the service has always been great. We'll continue to make it our restaurant of choice in the city."

  • "We had an early reservation for a pre-theatre dinner on a Saturday night so the restaurant was quiet when we arrived, but soon became mpore energetic. The oysters were prepared nicely, but were not of the caliber I would have expected. My seared scallops were cooked perfectly and went nicely with the lentils and vegetables. My only complaint was that the sauce should have been warmer. My dining companion thought the rockfish was quite good. All in all, we had a fine meal and plan on returning soon."

  • "Great dinner w friends from out of town. Intimate setting in great bldg - easy to listen to every piece of conversation unlike many restaurants. 2 1/2 hours flew by. Each portion of meal perfectly timed. Scallops special was perfect - both taste, texture and presentation. Apps and desserts were perfect compliment. Highly recommend as a quieter option w great service on weekends."

  • "I have been to Chez Foushee several times. This time I took my parents, who live out of town, for a Birthday lunch for my mother (the woman who needs no presents). They have been to Richmond dozens of times and she declared Chez Foushee her new favorite place! The atmosphere is beautiful, the service is relaxed and professional, and the food is always interesting and delicious. A true gem. I am glad they have been able to maintain their quality and even improve over the years. Thanks! Ps love the warm toffee pudding- much better than birthday cake!"

  • "Chez Foushee with lots of light from the large windows on 2 sides, white linens, and lovely atmosphere is a special place. For lunch I tried the gnocchi in a yummy broth with zucchini and parmesan and it was the perfect choice on a cold, rainy day. My friend chose the cauliflower bisque and said it was very tasty. I'm not surprised. Chez Foushee never disappoints."

  • "Chez Foushee consistently serves creative dinner entrees. The starters and salads are great. The ingredients are fresh and the presentations are nice. While the food is certainly outstanding, the service is even more so. The wait staff is attentive and Andrew, the owner, is gracious."

  • "I've visited many restaurants with 4 star ratings lately and was sorely disappointed! Chez Foushee puts them to same....it was the best meal I've had in a year and the best duck I've ever eaten. I was with a group of seven and everyone had a wonderful meal. My husband said that even the beers were great. Everything from the appetizers to the desserts were good. This will be my go to special occassion restaurant!"

  • "This was our first experience at chez Foushee. We had a romantic date night that included great food, spectacular service, in a lovely setting. Just what we were looking for, exceeding all of our expectations. I had the duck. Husband had the market grill special. Both were delicious. I would order both again."

  • "We enjoyed our entire experience -- nicely greeted upon arrival, table ready with our reservation, not too noisy for easy conversation even on a Saturday night, knowledgeable waiter with recommendations, EXCELLENT food (warm spinach salad and rockfish entrée), great chardonnay selection for by-the-glass, and interesting historical architecture. Quiet if seated in the back."

  • "I haven't made it here for dinner yest, but have brunched here twice and thoroughly enjoyed each visit. The menu changes frequently, and it is posted on their website. Each time, I have been impressed with the hospitality as well as the pleasant atmosphere. The staff is very friendly, and the owner even went out to be sure we were parked in a tow-free zone while the server took our orders. Personally, I think this is a gorgeous restaurant, and a bargain at brunch for the elegant setting & service."

  • "We have enjoyed many great meals at Chez Foushee. We chose to dine there on New Years Eve and we had another wonderful evening and a fantastic meal."
    Dined on 12/31/2013
  • "Our waiter was the best part. We were shocked at how much the price shot up for what we had. New Year's Eve was 75.00 a person, not including drinks. Would I go again, probably not."

  • "Appetizer chicken liver paté was cooked/served in a custard cup ... difficult to reach and spread (was not as soft & spreadable as expected). Grilled grouper was very peppery which hid the fish's true flavor."
