A word from Chez Delmo
Situated in Old Montreal and steps away from the Old Port, this French restaurant established in 1932 makes you feel like you’re at sea savoring the most delicious treasures of the blue waters of the river and ocean. Specializing in fish and seafood, Chez Delmo serves a delicious meal with fresh ingredients. At Chez Delmo, you can choose from a large variety of fish: Dover sole, salmon, cod, sea-bass, halibut, and many more prepared the French way. This means being served in delicious sauces and delicate spices that bring out the fish’s natural flavors without masking them. You may also opt for scallops, shrimp and lobster. Chez Delmo also offers an à la carte dinner and lunch menu. The restaurant's is large and open-aired with a granite bar, the color of which perfectly matches the off-white walls. The mood is very bright thanks to large windows which bathe the high-ceilings of the dining room with light and which offer a beautiful view of the charming Old Montreal atmosphere. Continued

  • "Food is excellent Service is outstanding Best tartare salmon I ever had I have been going to this restaurant for over 2 yrs now and I have never been disappointed"

  • "this was not my first time here but it seems this place gets better each time. The fish is fresh and well done and presented simply. The dover sole is the best. We will be back for sure."

  • "best fish in town! service impeccable and friendly great wine list at reasonable prices"

  • "Prices were high, quality lacking. I had the fish soup which was passable, more fish flavored stick than fish. The Dover sole was good albeit expensive at 51.00 but the accompanying vegetables were reheated and litho ugh supposedly a mixture was mainly green beans. I would not go back. For those prices I would expect more ambience in the restaurant, it felt more like an upscale coffee shop."

  • "i'll start by saying this is one of the best restaurants i have ever been to, and certainly the best seafood restaurant . I travel a lot and rely on concierge recommendations, and this one came highly praised. I read some of the comments and was not sure what to expect. First impression was good: a nice greeting, a beautiful decor and a good table. Definitely a lot of regulars at this place, everyone seems to know each other! The staff is very efficient and not pretentious, and is very helpful. Always a good sign when the waiters knows where the fish is from, it means the chef is proud of his products! Indeed the arctic char was simply perfect. i think this will be my new favorite restaurant in Montreal."

  • "As usual, everything was perfect. Nice welcome, friendly and efficient staff, fish cooked to perfection. Tried the arctic char…wow they also have valet for $10, a must in old montreal"

  • "It's not the same Chez Delmo .... The martinis were great and plentiful but the fish was horribly overcooked. So a $55 dover sole ended up tasting like a $12 meal. The artic char was also over done. Been there done that....."

  • "everything we ordered was excellent. The fish was really good. I would like to go back to try the late night menu (which is an excellent deal)."

  • "the place is pretty, but the food we eat not have real taste. the only real good thing was the lobster bisque. the fried calamary , no taste and the fried are smooth not crunchy and fall appart, the dip , no taste too... the seafood sheel to much potatoes, to much bechamel, not enought cheese and not enought seafood, and no much taste.... Service: no much communication , or they try to push us out quickly. we say no more bread and the bring more, we say the plate was not finish and 20 second later they come for take it!!! And less than 15 minutes after the end we begin to have difficulty to digest and bad fealing until we go to bed..."

  • "This was my second visit. Same welcoming mood, same quality, same professional service as last year. The waiter listed what fish was in season, explained the difference between Atlantic and Pacific halibut (theirs is fresh Atlantic, hence the price) The fish is fresh, very well prepared. I had halibut provencale, my partner tried seafood poutine with crayfish sauce. Fantastic second experience overall. This is my favourite fish restaurant when we are in town."

  • "went twice for dinner with Groupon voucher. First night we had fish, very poor, nothing I cannot easily cook at home. Waitress was impolite and even told my husband "you cannot use the % feature for the tip, you have to give me aroung $20".... very unprofessional, since he hadn't even had the chance to get to the machine and start putting his pin yet. She made us feel like criminals, very insulting. They even came in the middle of our dinner to ask us to give them our groupon voucher... I had to put down my fork and stop eating to give it to her. Utterly insulting experience. Second night was a bit better, only had starters and the quality was a bit better than mains. Service was also better the second night."

  • "I had the garlic escargot which were average. I had tastier ones before but they were very tender. The muscles were AMAZING. I can't say I've had better. The sauce was exquisite. The service was friendly and they took in consideration my food allergies."

  • "Excellent service all night. Both fish soup and Lonster Bisque were good Main dishes of shrimp and Beef Bavette very good. Pretty good creme brule! • "Chez Delmo never disappoints! My husband and I have been coming here for the past three years on our visits to Montreal. Each time the experience is notable. From the cocktails, to the food, to the wines, and to the service...Benoit and his staff deliver an outstanding experience. A favorite for us is the Walleye - we feel it is the best prepared fish we have ever eaten. We look forward to our visits and have not been disappointed. The food and experience has proven to be as good as we anticipate. The staff is excellent - they are friendly, knowledgeable and make every effort to ensure your experience is pleasurable. If you have not tried this restaurant, put it on your "to do list", particularly if you enjoy fish. ."

  • "i used to go to Delmo's when i worked in the Old Port 25 years ago, and loved the fact that you could eat a perfect fish at the bar. It was fun and classy, However, i prefer this new version, I still like the bar, but the dining room is so elegant now, with comfortable chairs and stunning decor. Just the right touch. The music is not too loud, which i like. Oh, and the fish is still perfect. Long live Demo!"

  • "This was the 2nd time we went to this place since we were so impress by the food on our 1st visit. However, this time their singature Lobster bisque was watery had only 1 piece of lobster in it. My seafood shell dish which suppose to have lobster, shrimp and scallop only had half a shrimp and 1/4 of a lobster leg meat. I did get about 10 scallops but would appreciate if waitress would tell us they have no shrimp and lobster that night. The other dishes was great, loved the soft Alaskan crab meat and the Chiliean Sea Bass was the best I have ever tasted. There were many people on that Saturday night so a bit noisy but the ambiance was still nice."

  • "Rather disappointed. This is no we're near the level and chat, of the old delmo. The hostess was nice service was good not great albeit after I'm sure a busy lunch service we arrived at 130. The decor is really lacking in charm and in my own opinion taste. The bathroom had a dental floss dispenser which I thought unique and a plus to an I eventful meal. The soup was excellent. I would not suggest to colleagues or friends unless in area for a glass of wine and bite at the bar"

  • "My boyfriend and I tried out this restaurant on a Wednesday night. We've been to this same restaurant when it was Nantua and did not find it to be as good, but this time around we were so pleased with our dining experience. If you're looking for good, fresh seafood in a nice, quiet setting this is the place. A plus is that they offer valet (since parking in the old port sometimes can be tricky), and the owner is super amicable. Between the two of us we had the following: Beef Carpaccio Salmon Tartare Small seafood salad Alaska crab (starter size 100grams with avocado and a marinara/salsa) Lobster Newburg EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS but my favourite would have to be the salmon tartare and alaska crab plate. Beef carp was very good too."

  • "We attended the second seating on New Year's Eve 2013: it was a 3 or 5 course price fixe with predominantly seafood but also several excellent meat dishes. The food was exceptional -- traditional in some respects (ingredients) but very creative and stylishly plated. The staff performed with great poise despite the hour and energy level and the manager held it all together with attentiveness and great hospitality. A great, welcoming atmosphere for an eclectic group of diners. By far our favorite meal in Montreal."

  • "All in all a great dining experience, great ambiance, charming owner, great staff, but as a connoisseur of seafood I would have preferred a better selection for oysters, only malpeque oysters were available. Salmon carpacio, the salmon was obviously frozen but in January I know it's not easy to get fresh wild salmon. The dover was excellent."

  • "Came here with a friend and we both had fish for dinner. I had the haddock, cooked to perfection, and my friend had the sea bass. We sat at the bar where they had a very knowledgeable and helpful bartender, and their wine list was great. Would definitely come here again whenever Im in the mood for seafood."

  • "From the start, a very welcoming owner sat us at a table by a stunning cellar (the decor in this restaurant is superb, with very artistic murals). Right away we felt good, the place is cozy, elegant and comfortable. But the food! Perfectly prepared fresh fish and seafood. Starters worth trying are octopus, wild salmon carpaccio and fish soup. Entrees we tried: halibut, grilled cod, lobster Newburg and waleye amandin. All were amazing. The staff is very friendly and efficient. Cocktails are a must!! we had ours at the bar where Chris the bartender impressed us with his flamed drinks! Fabulous night overall in this historical restaurant which opened in the 1930s. Highly recommend."

  • "We enjoyed our first visit on Friday 22 November and decided to go back. This was a mistake the service and food were simply not up to our expectations. Given there were only ten diners it was just so poor. Perhaps we picked the night when the main chef was off. Sorry to say we are never going back!"

  • "We ate here based on the reviews, we were not disappointed. The freshness of the fish and the care taken to cook it was evident. The lobster rolls are really good, would be happy to eat here again."

  • "I had a delicious Walleye filet, but the rest of our meal was just OK. The starter soups were lobster bisque (had a slightly off flavor) and cream of tomato (too sweet). My husband had the Arctic char - just OK, a little bland. The sides were also disappointing - mashed potatoes and rice tasted like instant. The dessert chocolate fondant was wonderful."

  • "Very welcoming staff and elegant decor. The food is fresh, traditionally served, perfectly cooked. The portions are adequate and well presented. The choice on the menu is very impressive: over 20 starters and over 20 entrées of fish or seafood! This is definitely one of the best seafood restaurants we have ever experienced and i would recommend this place to anyone who knows their fish. The bar scene is nice, with younger diners who seem like regulars dropping in for a drink...nice ambience overall"

  • "We've been there in the context of Montreal Table, fixed menu. For the price of 39,99 $, I've got a fish soup, a seafood coquille with scallops and shrimps gratinées in a bechamel sauce and a chocolate fondant. The food was good but too pricy. I feel the Chef add water in the soup. The coquille was good with 2 scallops and 2 shrimps. I will not go back. Sorry"

  • "Our first time in Montreal. We chose Chez Delmo after spending time reading reviews of several restaurants online. We were very glad we picked Chez Delmo. Service was great. Atmosphere was energetic and the food was full of flavour. We recommend to anyone."

  • "Always great food ! Romantic view when sitting near one of the huge windows with view of beautiful old montreal building across the street. Service was a bit slow that evening probably because of Montreal a table event.Great bartender at the bar, very entertaining, showed us a few tricks and made great cocktail."
