For most, this restaurant is not for regular visits as it is quite pricey, however, it is definitely a resturant to consider for special occassions. Both the menu and the wine list are impressive, the room is very nice and the service is excellent. I enjoyed one of the better porkchops I have ever been served in a restaurant. It was very tasty and juicy. I am gerneally concerned about being served a dry porkchop but that was not the case here. My wife had Dover sole prepared tableside which was also excellent, although maybe a touch salty. Seafood crepes as appetizers and dessert rounded out a very nice night.

The proprietors of Chez Catherine, Edith & Didier make dining an experience (mostly for the better). They make you feel at home at this great restaurant. However, during my last visit, Didier was obviously welcoming a regular customer at the next table. My wife and I felt like we were intruding on a private party. Their conversation was extremely loud, especially when Didier insisted on opening a bottle of wine from his private collection for them to share. It was near impossible for my wife and I carry on our own conversation when the waiter joined them (I think Didier's son) to celebrate his birthday. The food was still terrific, and it was nice to see the proprietor enjoying himself at work, but it went a little too far.

My wife and I chose to do the 4 course price fixe option. My wife chose the risotto and foie gras and I chose the seafood crepe and sweetbreads. For entrees my wife had the rack of lamb and I had the Duck. For Dessert I had the grand marnier souffle and my wife had the creme brulee. What more can I say except everything was cooked perfectly and served in the classic french style. We always look forward to coming back. I almost forgot to mention the blue cheese stuffed olives prepared by hand for our martinis (amazing).

The food was good but too expensive for what it was. With the meal being so expensive you would think that the service would be good but it wasn't. We sat at out table with dirty plates for quite some time before someone came to clean our table. Not one time during the whole three course meal did someone check on us. The vibe was that the two waiters were too busy with the other tables that were spending more money to give us any attention. Even though we spent about $250 on a meal for two. The food was good but too small for that price. I ordered the scallops and there were only four. The crab salad was tasty but not amazing, and the desserts were "good." We were excited to eat there because we heard good reviews but we left unimpressed.

Overall my wife and I had a memorable experience though it was a bit pricey for the quantity of food & the quality was not as good as we recall - this was our 3rd time at the restaurant but first for many years. My wife enjoyed the escargot app & salmon entree and the souffle was the best she has ever had. For me, the pate was so-so & the duck entree was small & overly salty but otherwise flavorful. The peach dessert was also small and not very impressive. The wines by the glass (cabernet & sauvignon) were very good. Wait staff was extremely friendly and very attentive, at least until the restaurant got crowded at which point the two people could barely keep up.

Continues to be a very good venue for a pleasant quiet dinner with good friends - Great service, excellent food served with style. Wines were very good and the $15 Calvados lovely and generously provided. Only wish portions were a bit larger. Very pleased at the consistency of everything after not having dined there for some time. PS.- Arrangement for dealing for some late arriving guests was switfly and graciously provided.

Everything was great, food is amazing, but I was disappointed when I was presented with a bill stating in pencil the total due without any iteminization how they arrived at that total due. I feel a guest is entitled to know exactly how the total due was reached .this method definitely hurts their business which is way down

With the new chef aboard we were expecting something very different than in the past but not so. The food preparation was fine but I didn't sense that the menu or techniques were notably updated as the menu was still rooted in traditional French style. I was disappointed that our server did not take the time to describe the components of either the charcuterie as my appetizer or the cheese plate at the end.

We came here as a gift for my daughters graduation. She has been taking french in school and wanted to go to a french restaurant. We didn't want to travel to the city but wanted not only great food but an overall authentic french experience. She was very impressed as we were also. The waiter was wonderful food was excellent atmosphere great as well. We all had something different duck, pork, salmon, vegetarian meal, each dish was wonderful! The only complaint was from my younger daughter who would have liked to have a chocolate dessert but it wasn't on the menu. If it wasn't so expensive we would defiantly come back on more than only special occasions.

Lives up to its reputation as a top restaurant on NJ. The pork chops were tender with a wonderful flavor. The soufflé for dessert was light and airy. It was $300 (with tip) for the two of us including two appetizers, two entrees and two desserts and coffee. Pricey but excellent food and service.

The experience at Chez Catherine felt like being welcomed into an old friend's home for a classic French dinner. The food was traditional and well executed and the service was warm and formal, yet relaxed at the same time. I would recommend this restaurant for a romantic or family dinner where you just want to experience classic French food and service.

We had a prix-fixe lunch at Chez Catherine on a weekday. What a lovely restaurant on a main thoroughfare, but quiet inside. We selected PEI mussels, country pate, mixed grilled fish and hanger steak. My husband loved the mussels and hanger steak. I liked the the pâte and fish. Everything was well-prepared without being fussy. For dessert we had panna cotta ( the creamiest and best we ever had) and yummy sorbet of strawberry, raspberry, mango, and passionfruit. The server was terrific - charming, amusing, and French! We hope to return for dinner, when we can sample more dishes.

I really wanted to like Chez Catherine b/c it was a special occasion, and I wanted the evening to feel very special. I feel a little disappointed. The food wasn't bad, but was served luke warm? How was it even possible if it was just prepared? The mushroom soup that I ordered lacked any taste whatsoever. Mussels were very good. Servings of Foie Gras and Rack of Lamb were laughable. They were not bad, but at the exuberant price they charge for every dish, I didn't expect to have such tiniest portions that I returned home hungry!!! It was very quiet, because only 3 other tables were occupied on a Thursday night. That should have been my first warning sign.

I decided to take my wife to Chez Catherine for her birthday. A horrible night- weather wise. (pouring freezing rain) We were met at the door with a warm Bonjour! We were led to our table right away. This restaurant is small with maybe a maximum of ten or eleven tables. Our cocktails were great. We had two appetizers, but we split each of them between us. The first was mussels in a white buttery cream sauce-Fantastic. The second appetizer was scallops shrimp and crab meat on a crepe - even better, My wife had the duck breast and I had the rabbit - a first for me. Both were very good. We wrapped this meal up by sharing a gigantic soufflé with a creamy sauce. Super. All in all - a Very good Night!

We had a very good time. Definately a friendly place with good authentic French food. They told me that if I give them 72 hours notice they could fix kidneys for me. Obviously they don't often carry such a dish on the menu given its lack of popularity. But it is rare you find an restuarant that will do that for a customer. The owners are very family oriented in their service and customers keep coming back. An outstanding experience.
