Diner Reviews
  • "Very accommodating to a lunch hour group with a stroller. Great menu. Biscuits were tasty. Fries were over-seasoned. Construction on the entire exterior wrecks the ambience, but it was not noisy."

  • "Friendly staff and excellent food! Had a wonderful experience. Lots of great menu items to try. We had the buck-a-shuck Oyster and the sauces were delicious! Will come back to try more items!"

  • "i always heard good things but i didn't quite like the food that night (maybe we didn't order the right things), we ordered the gumbo and the fried chicken"

  • "I really enjoyed my lunch. We went as a group of 6 and they were very accomodating when I requested a change in our table. The food was great, service was friendly and quick. On my list for a repeat visit."

  • "We brunched last Sunday at Chewies Coal Harbour and while my partner enjoyed her shrimp and grits I decided to try a couple sides, an uninspired and lumpy bowl of white cheddar grits and an underdone waffle, while crispy on the outside was raw in the middle. Also disappointing was the service with no one coming by to refresh our coffee or water until we were about to leave. Luckily the server to a neighboring table took pity on us and refreshed the coffee when seeing our pleading eyes. This is my first negative experience with Chewies and the last time I'll try brunch at the Coal Harbour location."

  • "It won't blow your socks away, it is just mediocre. Service is poor, and flavour is lacking. It is not what it ascribes to be (bringing New Orleans to Vancouver). I would skip it, to be honest. Chicken and waffles are way too dry, and everything has a sweet tilt to it. The dryness is what gets you though."

  • "I've been looking for a good place to get some southern food. Food was on point! Portion size was great and menu is diverse. On the down side our food took a total of 30 mins to be served upon ordering. Other tables were being served their food and even finished before we received ours. We contemplated on leaving as my group had other plans in the afternoon. Restaurant got very busy for the lunch rush by the time we finished ordering. Our waiter was juggling a handful of tables. We had to flagged down three different employees (hostess and two other waiters) when we needed something and even the bill. I noticed tables beside us as well felt the rush and lack of service. Overall, good food but service needs a huge improvement."

  • "Portion size for mussels were a lot smaller than we had expected. It would have been nice to have more bread to dip in the mussel soup. Mussels were quite tasty though."

  • "A group of us met for dinner at Chewies on a Friday night. The food was amazing and the drinks were great. We Definitely will be booking a night out at Chewies again in the near future!! "

  • "I was a bit skeptical about going here but since we live in the neighbourhood we decided to give it a go, knowing that if our first course wasn't good we could head across the street to Cactus Club. The four of us split two roasted beet salads to start, which were delicious. One serving would be adequate for a lunch course. I'll definitely have that again. Our next course was the panko coated Fanny Bay Oysters, which came piping hot with a touch of heat. Our mains were ribs - delicious, jambalya - on the spicy side but good and crab cakes. The staff were very friendly and efficient. We will be back!"

  • "This was my third visit to Chewie's Coal Harbour and I hate to say it, I kinda like the Kits location better. The noise levels here are brutal, my girl friend and I had sore throats at the end of the night! The service is temperamental, some days are better than others. Great job on the appies, good spot for drinks. However main course, Southern Fried Chicken is hands down waaayy better in Kits. I dont know what they do to it here, but it isn't as moist or tasty (not to mention a side of limpy kale did not do it justice). "

  • "I was at the Coal Harbour Chewies on Saturday night with some friends for Oysters and Wine. As per usual the food and service was amazing. Its a completely different ambience compared to the Kits location, but nevertheless outstanding."

  • "Very friendly and nice servers but they couldn't seem to gety anything right. My bfs meal delivered and nearly 5 min before I could grab someone's attention. Screwed up order at table beside us as well and then delivered us their meal ....seemed like no one knew what was going on...bf was nearly done his meal before I got mine. "

  • "Firstly the restaurant is in the middle of a construction zone which kind of ruins the atompshere for me however we weren't bothered by the noise just not a pretty sight to see The restuarant was quite loud and my husband and I had to strain to hear each other. Food was good but not great. I had the gumbo and my husband had the kettle pot and unfortunatley we were both disapointed. May be our fault as we were expected the kettle to come with alot more seafood as when we order this item at other restaurants we feel we get more value for our dollar spent. Service was good and the ceasrs were really good as well. All in all, we both left a little disapointed and still hungry."

  • "We went for dinner and wanted to try the fried chicken & oysters. We told the server we were on a time crunch and he happily suggested what to order and what would take too long (which was the fried chicken). We almost left cause we wanted to try the chicken but ended up being able to stay. We ordered the fried chicken right away & and it managed to come out quite quickly! They had taken our time into consideration which was very nice! It got a bit busy and ended up with a different waiter. He was awesome! He explained our oyster platter to us & was enjoyable Everytime he came around. We really appreciated the good service that they all provided. He even gave us a discount on our oysters! Totally went beyond the call of duty. We will be back!"

  • "You could find it here. Excellent Crab Cake. Gator and beef brisket taste really good. Fried chicken taste well too. However, not too many kinds of oysters I could pick...call and ask to make sure if you are a oyster lover like I am (but what they had is really fresh though!!!)"

  • "Great service, considering the fact that the restaurant had a 50-person group for lunch. Staff took care of orders quickly. And bacon-infused vodka to boot!"

  • "Attentive server, not shy about sharing personal opinions and menu recommendations. Food stayed true to the theme - not healthy but what is in Louisiana-style cuisine? Entrees good but lacked a bit of flavour. Raw oysters and the condiments were delish. Loved the house-made sauces!!"

  • "Trendy Vancouver restaurant with great Louisiana style food experience. A nice change from the cookie cutter restaurants in Vancouver. Variety of food on the menu excellent. Consider their half price appetizer specials but check the time. Pricing on the menu very reasonable. Service was efficient and friendly. Odd that we had wine in water glasses. Very noisey restaurant so if you want a quiet relaxing dinner not the place, however, if you want to party and have a energized night where it is hard to talk to your table mates, this is the place. The music was very loud. Parking in the area expensive so make sure you plan ahead. Nice to try but won't go back."

  • "Great restaurant with a New Orleans flair! The oysters were fresh, firm and flavorful & were accompanied by some great sauces. The waiter was very helpful and friendly. He recommended the Southern Fried Chicken for my entree. It was outstanding! A large breast and leg portion was soaked in Buttermilk then battered just right and fried to a golden brown crunch! It is not a fine dining restaurant. More casual & the long, narrow layout with the open kitchen and oyster bar on one side and windows on the other was pleasing, but made for a rather noisy atmosphere... Overall I had a great experience here and would recommend it if you wanted to have a nice casual evening with friends, eat some great oysters, and some southern "comfort food"."

  • "Only go for happy hour and buck a chuck, rest of the food is nothing special, Do not get lobster po' boy, overpriced and bad, also stay away from biscuit only good as a weapon as they are very dense. Service itself was good people were nice."

  • "Good place to go with friends and coworkers. Relaxed atmosphere, entertaining staff. Menu a bit overpriced but suppose this is to compensate for the buck-a-shuck from 3-6pm."

  • "Great atmosphere and menu.....oysters galore and menu boasts unique cajun, soul food....other choices as well. Our service was excellent and would highly recommend this restaurant. We'll be back!"

  • "Literally. I'm pretty sure most of the menu is on the no-eat list for anyone with high cholesterol. But that doesn't mean the food isn't delicious. I've been here a few times for lunch and a couple of times for after-work get togethers. I have yet to try the Waygu burger that my co-workers have been raving about, but what I have tried has been pretty good. Their fries are to die for and I could easily just have a side of fries as lunch and be happy. Their calamari is a must-try - not deep fried and all the better for it. Tender and tasty. If you dare, try the pork crackling. Mmm, mmm fat."

  • "This is the second time that I have been to Chewies at Coal Harbour and it was absolutely outstanding! The bourbon sours to start with are highly addictive. We had the fried green tomatoes with prawns and a delicious remoulade sauce and it was outstanding! I will order this dish every time! I went with a friend and we both were torn between ordering the gumbo and the oyster po'boy so we ordered one of each and then shared them. Oyster po'boy was delicious however I would suggest ordering a side of remoulade as it really spiced up the sandwich. The gumbo was good however the roux was a little too dark for my tastes but still very good overall. Highly recommend this place!"

  • "I used to frequent Chewies in Kits quite often and always had great service and great food. This was not the case at all at Coal Harbour location. Service was lacking and food was okay. The best part was pecan pie dessert."

  • "Every server in this establishment is happy and friendly. You will rethink service after you come here, these people are happy to work here and like people! John at the bar is a gem. Food is out of this world plus your wine glass will be filled to the rim. What refreshing concepts for Vancouver! I love this place!"

  • "My friend and I went for the buck a shuck oysters at happy hour. The oysters were fresh and tasty, the service friendly, and the restaurant decor very nice. With a bottle of sparkling wine at a reasonable price it was a very enjoyable early evening out."

  • "I have been to the kits location and the food was decent. Had dinner last time and wanted to try lunch. Booked at coal harbour because kits was full. My friend got the fried chicken, had that last time and it is good. I tried the fried chicken po boy, soggy and so disappointing..... The cafe Du monde beignet wasn't quite like New Orleans but it was good. Red velvet cake, another miss."

  • "The food was fine. It was the service and noise level that was the issue. I spent a lot of time trying to flag down the servers who seemed to prefer talking to each other rather than being more attentive to their customers. The music was cranked during the lunchtime and made it difficult for us to carry on a conversation. When paying I was only given the option of paying 18% (after-tax by the way) or Other so I can only assume the managers/owners expect their customers to compensate their staff 18% for their services, so if this is the case I would suggest they hire, train and manage their staff to perform at this level."
