Chevalier RestaurantDelish! From the first course through dessert, all was yummy. Had read other reviews which mentioned the crab salad and the creme brulee so we gave both a try. No complaints. The two eating the creme brulee voted it the best ever and my husband even stooped to cleaning out every last morsel with his finger. He had a lamb special that was divine and the sole with the lemon sauce was a big hit with the birthday girl. I had the prix fixe dinner which helped keep the bill down a bit but only a bit as Chevalier is a tad pricey. Very good food though and we live right here in town so now that we have found Chevalier, we shall return. Yum!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellently preparedThe food was excellently prepared and the greeting by the chef during our meal was a nice touch. The expectations were as high as the menu prices, but overall they were met.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMMom's Day Menu A Treat! The special menu for Mother's Day was great with many choices depending on your mood. There were many tempting appetizers; I had the duck liver mousse and my husband had the salad with warm goat cheese. Both, were excellent choices. I enjoyed the risotto and halibut and my husband had the lamb for our main courses. Then we split the cheese plate in place of dessert. Everything tasted good! We have enjoyed this restaurant for many years and can always recommend it knowing that our friends will enjoy it too.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA great place to celebrateA great place to celebrate a special occasion -- we particularly enjoy the outdoor dining for its quiet garden-like setting.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellentGreat food. We went on a warm night allowing us to sit outdoors in their large patio area under a canopy of trees. The food was classic French, very well prepared and tasty. Service was a bit slow I think because they were very crowded Saturday evening and the staff and kitchen was no doubt stretched to the max. But all servers were friendly, helpful, proficient, and we didn't mind the wait as the evening was so beautiful and the noise level was low enough to allow for good conversation with our friends at the table for 4. We'll be coming back here again!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding! The chef, PhilippeOutstanding! And what a great find it ended up being! My wife and I were celebrating her birthday and simply had a wonderful dining experience. The menu was authentic, the preparation delicious and the service a delight. The wine list was diverse, but fits just about any budget. It was a chilly evening so no alfresco dining, however we noticed a good deal of outdoor seating which must be terrific during warm evenings. Chevalier is not an every day dining spot, but it the best French food I know of outside the City and a neighborhood gem without compare.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food ....Always great food. There is an excellent menu of classic French dishes and always a couple of blackboard specials. When we dined, these consisted of saddle of lamb and fresh halibut, both excellent. Other dishes included escargot in shell with butter parsley and garlic and lobster bisque. There is also a very interesting cocktail menu and a wine list containing a good variety of French wines. Outdoor patio dining is available. Service is competent, gracious, friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Dishes are pricy, but there is always a 3 course pix-fixe menu, an extraordinary value at $39. And Chef Chevalier was just named to the Best Chefs of America.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMYou don't need to go all theYou don't need to go all the way to SF for a great traditional French if you live in the East Bay.
