  • "I have been here more times than I can count and have yet to be disappointed. They have 1/2 price wine on Wednesday, the ambiance is wonderful, you are always greeted with a smile and the food is AMAZING!! If you want some delicious food in a comfortable and inviting atmosphere you must try out Chestnut!"

  • "We had a wonderful meal at Chestnut. The food was fresh and delicious, from the appetizer to the dessert (especially great lobster bisque and yummy bourbon butter pecan pie)! The staff was extremely gracious, even when faced with a very loud and crude group that was disturbing many other tables. The manager handled the situation with a politeness and good grace that are to be applauded. He maintained the excellent reputation for great food in a warm and inviting environment that Chestnut deserves."

  • "Chestnut offered great variety on menus. We ordered quite a variety of items and enjoyed all. The beet & goat cheese salad was the only dish that disappointed me. Service was very good."

  • "It was so noisy from the in tire we arrived until we left. I was a special occasion, birthday, it was reccomened. I would not go back. Ken Rethmeier, came over to out table and was very nice and apoligized"

  • "Our table of six all had fabulous meals. Delicious drinks, delicious mussels and beet salads for appetizers, and delicious entrees: Sunburst Trout, Pork Belly, and Ribs. The service was excellent. Desserts were an apple/cranberry pie and a caramel/chocolate torte. All delicious. We chose Chestnut for our out of town guests from Chicago and they were delighted. We will be back!"

  • "This is my second visit - this time with just my wife - first time with a large group. Food and service were excellent. Surprised and pleased to find Cold Mountain winter lager on the menu in July - one of my favorite local beers - paired beautifully with the soup of the day. Wife's lobster bisque and seasonal salad with fresh heirloom tomatos was very pleasing. We split the sword fish entree which the server offered to provide on two plates with a full serving of sides for each of us - a nice touch for only $3. Service was prompt but not pushy and the food was delicious. Will absolutely visit again for brunch, dinner, or "appy hour"."

  • "We've eaten at Chestnut a number of times and the food and service always have been excellent. Their lobster bisque is fabulous; we almost always get it, no matter what else we order!"

  • "...our waiter's response to the question "Do you have a wine list?" was "DUH!" Once we had a chance to look at the wine list and tried to order two of the top bottles, we were informed that neither were available. Our charcuterie plate looked more like leftovers - roast beef and cold duck? Where are the sausages and cured ham? And why is this delicious goat cheese sitting in a puddle of whole-grain mustard? The menu seemed terribly disjointed - curried mussles, southwest-style chicken, lobster risotto cakes...nothing was terribly inventive or creative. In fact, what I got was downright lazy. NY strip was unseasoned, sliced into awkward pieces, and my "wedge" salad was laughable. Smoked pork belly? That's just bacon. Won't be back"

  • "Meal was excellent, but dessert was not what was described on the menu. It was very good, but it was cheescake with a touch of lemon, not "lemon swirl" cake. Regardless, we like the restaurant."

  • "This was not our first time here, and is certainly won't be the last. Whatever you do, order the lobster bisque as well as the risotto cakes with the lobster ragout. (The chocolate mousse was also delectable.) Perhaps one evening I will choose only the lobster bisque for dinner and supplement it with about three different desserts. Why not?"

  • "Can't say enough about Chestnut. The only reason the food only got 4 stars was because they ran out of ribs after we ordered. They asked about the substitute of pork shoulder which my husband agreed to. It wasn't great but they offered to bring something else but took it off the bill and gave us a dessert! Our waiter & manager were terrific. My swirdfish dinner was outstanding. Would definitely go back!"

  • "We started out at the bar where service was lacking but the drinks were nicely made. We tried the Smoked Habanero Ruby Margarita - awesome. We then moved to the dining room and received wonderful service. We ordered the Eggplant Stack and the Petit Filet appetizer and Risotta on Lobster Ragout appetizer. Everything was exceptional - the flavors were fresh and tasted wonderful together. We passed on dessert, even though there were several items that sounded really good."

  • "I made reservations for my girls batchelorette night out and the evening started here for dinner. Pete was our server and he was AMAZING. He helped set the night off in the right direction. The food and drinks were perfect. Everything we had was top notch. Not a single complaint, it was perfect."

  • "We went here on our visit to Asheville with extended family. We have vegetarians and meat eaters in the group, and everyone enjoyed their lunch. The service was friendly and efficient. Their special gazpacho soup was quite yummy!"

  • "Reviewed July 14, 2014 NEW My husband and I chose Chestnut primarily because we were going to the Orange Peel for a show, and Chestnut's offers a 15% discount on the entire meal if you show your tix to them. We were impressed on all levels- the ambience was quiet, classy and elegant. The service was attentive and prompt, without being intrusive or bothersome. The menu was varied, interesting, and used farm-to-table ingredients, always a plus for Asheville restaurants. I had the beet & goat cheese salad and the trout entree, my husband had the seasonal salad and the New York Strip....all four items were excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant for adults, not sure about children"

  • "My friend and I ordered the salmon, it was terrific. Our other dining companion ordered the swordfish, it was very overcooked and he sent it back. He replaced it with the chicken over risotto, he enjoyed that very much. Our server, Colleen was fantastic."

  • "Having heard and read such good things about Chestnut I was excited about the evening but our experience didn't deliver. The appetizers, salad and entrees were all under-seasoned. Many of the ingredient combinations lacked balance and while the concept of the medium plates offered variety the choices lacked imagination. With so many better restaurant options in Asheville, we won't be going back to Chestnut."

  • "While visiting Asheville we happened upon Chestnut. The atmosphere was low key yet sophisticated. We enjoyed the lobster bisque and entrees from the regular menu - trout and the egglant tower. Both were very good. Our two young children ordered from the childrens menu and we had an overall lovely time."

  • "Our server, Sawyer was terrific! what fun, accomodating service! I had the 1955 cocktail. a perfect Not to Sweet cosmo. Chestnuts offers small plates, which my husband and I love. Their small charcuterie plate was fab. The pork with pistachio terrine made me rethink all those "gooey " looking terrines in France. I'm hooked! My husband had a 3 oz.beef tenderloin with mashed potatoes that was scrumptious. I had 1/2 doz raw oysters. I dine on the coast al lot and these were as good as I've had anywhere. We'll be back!!!"

  • "Great restaurant in the heart of downtown Asheville. Server was friendly and helpful. We had a nice Prosecco with the fabulous lobster bisque. They offer a "medium" plate which is perfect for a small appetite. The fresh trout was wonderful, as was the eggplant special."

  • "Our first visit to Chestnut was a wonderful surprisingly great experience. My husband ordered the mussels on a medium plate with the bread basket starter for his entrée. Even as a smaller plate, it was a good sized portion for him. I ordered the stuffed chicken with mozzarella and prosciutto. This dish was paired with artichoke, asparagus sauce and the flavor combination was excellent. For dessert we shared a chocolate mousse and were equally pleased with it. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to others and will return again in the future. Service and atmosphere were also excellent."

  • "Excellent food, fresh and tasty, excellent service; recommended by local chefs at other restaurants as "my favorite place to eat""

  • "Excellent menu with great variety. The marinated salmon with sliced potato and cucumber salad in a light dressing was first class. It was matched by a crispy pork belly appetizer. The mussels were spicy and plump with naan bread to soak up the juices. Pan-fried trout with asparagus and greens was perfectly cooked. The offering of small but generous plates should be encouraged. All main course dishes were a perfect serving size and no request for alterations were questioned. The wine list is fairly priced with good selections of all the popular varietals. The service was excellent and knowledgable with owners visible in the dining room. There was a nice bar with hightop tables for more casual dining."

  • "Noise level ("energetic") made it difficult to hear or make conversation. Cannot recommend Chestnut for that reason. Sorry, but I doubt I will return."

  • "We enjoyed every bite. The lobster bisque was so good, we were going to split one and the waitress suggested we each get a bowl. Glad she did, I didn't want to share it was so good! My husband had never eaten calimari thinking it would be chewy. It was perfectly done and crisp on top of a kale salad. Enjoyable dining experience."

  • "Excellent food and the best service I have encountered any where! Have paid triple for similar dining experiences in the Wash D.C. area, but must admit that the Chestnut has them all beat."

  • "The homemade bread and mozzarella chicken with orzo was amazingly good!It was a little loud in our section but only because a large and boisterous table was next to us. Can't fault the restaurant for dinners being loud. They were just enjoying themselves, and how could they not?"

  • "I had made a reservation at this restaurant for breakfast, because the day before I had waited an hour and a half at another restaurant just to eat breakfast. Our two meals were absolutely delicious. We started with sharing a homemade doughnut which was outstanding. My mother order the chicken and waffles and I ordered the brisket hash. The waitress was extremely helpful in providing recommendations. Both meals were outstanding and we would return again."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Chestnut. It was recommended by a friend and we were not disappointed. We started with the beet salad and it was so balanced and surprisingly tasty. I was undecided on my main and our waiter recommended the creamy vegetarian farro ‘risotto’ with squash noodles and mixed mushrooms. I was hesitant at first, but when he said he was normally a carnivore and that was his favorite thing on their menu I just had to try it. It was delicious! I haven't had a vegetarian dish that good in a very long time. So rich and creamy and 'meaty' from the shrooms that I didn't miss out on anything. My boyfriend got the NC tilefish in a red curry sauce and although it was good, it didn't beat mine by a long shot."

  • "Went on a Saturday night but wasn't super busy. Took 20 minutes to get drinks and almost 30 minutes before bread (which was not free, just as an aside) arrived. Entrees arrived cool and needed to be sent back, though the flavors were truly lovely."

  • "We went to Chestnut on the basis of several recommendations from friends, for our anniversary dinner. The service was sub-par my $12 cocktails were whisked away when there was still a finger-worth of fluid in the glass. My husband's tea glass sat for nearly 10 minutes without a refill, this with server's assistants and others flitting about the place. The food was hit-or-miss. The mussels were divine, if a little overly-citrus infused. My dinner of stacked fried green tomatoes was fresh and acid-forward which paired well with the pimento cheese between layers of tomato. My husband's risotto was disappointing - the tomato sauce was reminiscent of Chef Boyardee while the risotto cakes were lacking the cheese the menu promised."

  • "Chestnut is absolutely one of the finest restaurants in Asheville. The food is prepared with ingenuity and love, and the results are amazing. Of particular note: the lobster bisque is exquisite and not to be missed; they served a generous portion, but I ate mine as slowly as possible as to savor every mouthful. The other dish I would term amazing were the risotto cakes on lobster ragout; I had these on the recommendation of someone else, and I am delighted I followed their advice. I also had the fried calamari on kale salad; lovely touches were the oregano aioli and the fried lemon slices. We shared the breadbasket—a wonderful selection of homemade breads—and would advise ordering that."

  • "We were most impressed by the excellence of the food from flavor to texture to presentation to quality. Service was equally impressive. Just a delightful experience from every angle. We had hear good buzz from folks and the reviews were good, too. This place is not to be missed. It was our first time there and we'll be back."

  • "The same group that owns the Corner Kitchen owns this one. The food was very good. Liked their NY strip. Soufflé was really good. Maybe not the greatest ever, but definitely worth ordering. May come back when in Asheville."

  • "The lobster bisque was a great start. In my party we tried the petite filet, the crab cakes and the tile fish. All were wonderful. I exchanged a vegetable for my potatoes without an issue. For desert we had the soufflé. It was great! Sawyer our server was the best ever. Overall. Great restaurant. We plan to return during our next trip to the area."
