Chequers on Johnson Ferry in Marietta, GA is a little hidden, but well worth the find effort once you get there. Excellent seafood and vegetables....and those biscuits....pretty darn good. Highly recommended for an all round wonderful dining experience.

  • The new Chequers is worth a visit

My wife and I visited on a Sunday night recently. I had been to the Hammond Drive location many times when I officed in the Perimeter area, but had not been there in years. We were seated promptly on arrival. She had salmon and I had swordfish, both cooked perfectly.. We enjoyed the hot biscuits, a holdover that is welcome. Our service was good, not great, with our water delayed in getting there. We enjoyed a half off wine special for Sunday nights, that makes the evening very affordable. This should be a welcome addition to the East Cobb dining scene - a place that truly has a specialty in seafood. Recommend a visit.

We have been looking for a great seafood restaurant in the Marietta area. We were quite pleased to have found Chequers. The ambiance of the restaurant was wonderful, not so men's club as most steakhouses. The food was presented artfully and was extremely fresh. We had a very lovely dining experience, from our cocktails at the bar through dessert.

We enjoyed our first visit to Chequers. Not knowing what to expect we decided to try the Spring Rolls and were pleasantly surprised. For entrees we chose the Trout and the Crab Cakes. Both were very satisfying both in terms of quality and quantity. In the future we will be back and expect that we can count on enjoying any of the fresh fish dinners. We did find the dining room to be cold - I'm sure it was because they were not especially crowded but they should be mindful of that and adjust accordingly.

Adequate service, pleasant ambiance, food quality was acceptable, not outstanding. Two entrees (not specials) averaging $28-31, combined with 3 glasses of "everyday" wine equalled a $100 tab. Don't think Chequers will make it in East Cobb.

We enjoyed another exceptional brunch at Chequers. Chequers always exceeds our expectations. There is a huge selection of food from breakfast to lunch and food is always served at the correct temperature and is always flavorful. Dinners are also cooked to perfection. Brantley and Victoria are always happy to accommodate our nutritional requests without sacrificing flavor. We see repeat customers every Sunday, which shows how much care is put into making a lovely brunch or dinner. Guests feel like family and enjoying one another as well as the food. There is so much variety in entrees, fruits, vegetables and desserts that you will never tire of this brunch buffet. They serve seafood, beef chicken, desserts and breakfast foods.

The new location for Chequers in Marietta is wonderful and there are an abundance of parking spaces available in this large lot. Our dinner was superb from the delicious, fresh and hot rolls to the exquisitely crafted dessert. We really like the new homemade ice creams and every one we have tried has been a winner thus far. We also had the most delicious, moist and yummy chocolate cake, which my husband and I shared(fought over!). I think it is a flourless chocolate cake, but the consistency is like a chocolate mousse that just melts in your mouth. We took our favorite server's(Bernie) recommendation and tried the new bourbon glazed salmon cooked on a thin slice of maple wood and it was wonderful!

I began dining at there original location when I started traveling here in 1991 and enjoyed eating there quite often. My wife and wanted to try the new location for the first time since they moved to Marietta and was very satisfied. It had a very nice decor, and was surprisingly quiet in the dinning room. The waitress was very friendly and knows her job. The grilled Ahi Tuna was perfectly cooked and made a great meal. The portion was larger than I could finish; perhaps I shouldn't have eaten the second biscuit. I noticed the huge bar and that it was full, so I guess it is quite popular. I'd recommend them to anyone.

I scheduled my appointment early because it was my Mother and Wife's Birthday Brunch. I asked in the Special A note section to please do something special to help celebrate Their Birthdays. My Mother being 86 ....I really wanted to make her feel Special. I asked the waiter and he knew nothing about it. He went and brought out 2 little pudding bowls with a candle in each one and said Here happy a Birthday. Very disappointing for $ 175.dollar brunch.

The food at brunch is consistently flavorful and the service is consistently great. Dinners are always a treat and portion sizes are large enough to bring home leftovers. There are so many varied foods at brunch that we never tire of it. There is a carving station, ready to make omletes, chicken, and fish along will all the usual breakfast items. Food is much better quality than most restaurants and food is fresh and replenished often. Bagels and smoked salmon along with their famous bisquits, vegetables, cheese grits, fresh fruit and salad make this a satisfying and huge buffet. There are many dessert options. Both Brantley and Veronica, the managers, along with Donna, the hostess and the servers make this exceptionally pleasant .

The food was very good for brunch. The service from the waiter staff and hostess was far from five star. I felt we got very poor service, and I watched the interactions of the wait staff and hostess with the other patrons and I felt as if they were there to socialize with each other and not concerned with the level of service given to the patrons. It was not crowded when we arrived, so the lack of service was certainly not because they were overwhelmingly busy. I saw more than one patron call to their waiters for either drinks, checks or something, us included. I have always loved Chequers and have spent several Sundays enjoying their brunch. However, this is a new location and possibly new ownership. Three stars is the best I can do

We had the almond crusted tilapia and paid $24.00 for it. We asked if we got two sides with it and she said it already came with 2 sides, fruit and asparagus. We got 4 asparagus spears and a total of 2 tiny pieces of strawberries cut up. What a ripoff. When the restaurant was Houlihan's the price was $14.00 and you lots of fruit, asparagus and a baked potato. Fruit was not considered a side at Houlihan's. Chequers changed the the sauce recipe and what they created was bland and tasteless and the fish was overcooked. No manager ever ever came around to see how our food was. Chequers is overpriced for what you get and the service is dismal. There is no white tablecloth service with upscale waiters that treat you like a valued customer.

This was the first visit for my wife and me. Our appetizer (the brouchetta) was excellent and we both thoroughly enjoyed our entrees (steak and trout). and the sides we ordered with them. The service was very attentive but not overbearing. The ambience was attractive and, very importantly to me, the restaurant was quiet--even though there were a lot of other diners. We will be returning and we will be recommending Chequers to our friends.

I've dined at Chequers in the old location a number of times but this was my first dining experience at the new location in Marietta. I think where Chequers excels is in consistently great service, food preparation and food seasoning. I've never had over or undercooked food at Chequers and the food is always seasoned properly. The steak was a perfect medium, the shrimp, scallops and salmon were all cooked and seasoned to perfection. If I had one suggestion, however, I would recommend Chequers inspect their ribeye a little closer prior to preparation. Although my ribeye was well-prepared and well seasoned, it could have been trimmed a little closer. Excess gristle can destroy a dining out experience.
