We had a nice, post-show, early dinner which consisted of salads, burgers, and a mac and cheese with a hint of short rib. The menu is nice, varied and casual. The staff was very accommodating and the ambience was very pleasant.

Chelsea Tavern is a hot-spot for the theater crowd in Wilmington, and you can tell. It is exceptionally busy at around 6:00-6:30 as everyone tries to get a bite to eat before their show. Service can take a while, so make sure you bring your patience with you! That said, the food is incredible. The seafood dishes are all top-of-the-line, and the pastry chef does a daily Creme Brulee special that is not to be missed. Even more impressively, they were out of the dessert I requested once and went out of their way to create a unique substitute not on the menu. Their dedication to a positive food experience is intense, and it shows.

  • Great before a show at the Grande

We frequently eat here before a show at the Grande as it is just across the street and generally quite good. We had the pulled pork nachos which were so good. Our entrees however were another story. The chicken salad was incredibly salty - even my salt loving husband didn't care for it. The braised short rib Mac and cheese was bland and uninspiring as well. They generally do the basics well. Hoping this was on off night.

We dined at Chelsea Tavern prior to the show at The Grand. Although the food was good, the room was extremely noisy and we found it very difficult to hear each other. We also had a vegetarian with us who found the menu limited from a vegetarian point of view.

If your going to a show at the Grand, which is directly across the street Chelsea Tavern is perfect. The servers need to know that you intend to get to the show and they will see that your service is timed to get you out so you don't miss the curtain. Kitchen is tuned in and so is the menu so that you aren't eating precooked food but freshly prepared dishes. Pricing is reasonable, beer selection is broad and wines are plentiful as well.

We had dinner at the Chelsea Tavern prior to attending a performance at the Grand Opera House, which was right across the street. The menu provided a variety of attractive choices, and our meals were very good. The noise level did become an issue as the tables were occupied, and it was a distraction eventually. Also, the prices for some of the menu items would probably be considered a little high by some people.

Our group of five ladies were celebrating one of ours birthday. Had heard great things about Chelsea Tavern, and wanted to give it a try. Fortunately we also were able to purchase a Groupon. Our waitress Melanie was awesome! So very knowlegable about all the menus, she made great recommendations. We had the pork nachos and pretzel appetizers. The nachos were delicious, lots of meat and fluffy tortilla chips. The cheese sauce for the pretzels was wonderful as well. Now for the entrees - mmmmmmm. The thyme seared scallops were out of this world. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the risotto was very tasty. I am definitely going back!

Chelsea Tavern is a terrific spot for Sunday brunch. Market Street, which is bustling and noisy during the week, is serene and lovely on a Sunday morning. We ate outside and enjoyed a well-prepared and tasty brunch with the splendid Grand Opera House as a backdrop. Our party liked that the brunch combined both breakfast and lunch items. My only complaint was that the mimosa, served in a small flute, was not much to drink.

Booking the reservation the staff was friendly and gave us a time so that our group was done before the concert we had tickets to attend. Our group only had 4 people but we were pleased with all our food and the staff allowed a swap on the salad to accomodate a food allergy. The restaurant was buzzing with lots of friendly conversations but not noisy. We could still talk to each other.

I had heard good things about the food here, and am sorry to report that the food was mediocre - crabcake sandwich not made w/lump crab which is the standard in this area. Even the fries were bad - greasy and mixed with onions and sweet potato fries - I got whatever was left at the bottom of the fryer. My friend said the ceasar salad was okay - overly dressed, but the chicken was tender. The tomato soup was okay but not great. Too bad.

Located directly across from Wilmington's Grand Opera House, and just a couple of blocks from World Cafe Live, Chelsea is a nice spot to dine pre-show. The food is solid, a step above tavern fare without really entering the fine dining category. Service was very good, with our waitress taking extra care of a problem we created, and checking with us at all the right times. Reservations required on show nights, but if you go after the start time there will be room for walk-ups.
