this place is now closed, the app and soup was ok, but the main venison was terrific, as with all places in Iowa, the bar is lacking because it is a liquor controlled state, stick with beer or wine

Great as usual. We missed Jay but they got him on the phone (without us asking & to our surprise) & he picked an amazing bottle. How's that for service. If you haven't tried Chef's Table you are missing out on some extraordinary cuisine & a ridiculous wine list. Try it & your wife will thank you.

both my husband and I were happy with our meals. The charcuterie plate was not skimpy at all, and the bison tenderloin was delicious--perfectly prepared and the root vegetable/sauce accompaniment was a really nice side note. The entree prices are quite high, but they do come with soup or salad, while most other high-end restaurants price those a la carte (so you'd probably end up paying a similar amount).

Absolutely a must if in Iowa City. With groups the wine room is wonderful. The walk back is reminiscent of going into a wine cellar. Next to this is a cozy private seating area with access to the bar but with leather couches and a television if watching a sporting event etc. The waiter Brian was superb as was the food.

The food was very well prepared and presented beautifully. The wine selection is impeccable. We had a four course degustation with wine pairings which was interesting and delicious despite being over-priced and lacking an appetizer or salad course. The restaurant is elegantly decorated, very comfortable and conducive to conversation.

Greetings. This was my second experience at the Chef's Table. It was just as pleasant as the first. I had the onion soup, again. It's perfect! Then I had the fish. It was delicious. With dinner I enjoyed a glass of the white that was from the bordeaux region. There's only one that you can order by the glass. Finally, I had ANOTHER glass of the same delicious wine as dessert... Great place!

A bit over priced for Iowa City but above average food and service compared to the rest of town. The wine list is OK but lacks some depth. I assume this is a very high end spot for a college town and the audience is limited. This would be an average restaurant in Washington or New York but (almost) out of place here. I recommend it but be prepared for a hefty bill for the area.

We're from San Francisco, so there is basically no way CT could compare to our baseline. That said, we had a nice meal with good service. The wine list is nice. If you've read the Yelp reviews that are highly critical, I think they are basically written by folks put off by the price tag. It's probably on the high side for Iowa City but very mainstream by CA standards.

My wife and I went on a Tuesday night, so the restaurant was pretty empty. We chose the five course degustation with wine accompaniment. The food was very delicious. The wines were all very good. The service and presentation was very nice and enhanced the experience. The staff was able to answer different questions that we had about the ingredients used in a dish, like "what was broccolini". After dinner, we were given a tour of the restaurant and kitchen. Our dinner here exceeded my expetations.

We had 3 courses and a great wine/beer pairing for each. The scallop & salmon appetizer were cooked perfectly and had a great savory flavor. The entree (pork tenderloin) was delicious though cooked a little under what I prefer, it was still very palatable. The dessert was small (of course) but heavenly. Not too sweet. The ambiance was quiet. The service was impeccable. It's a small restaurant but we felt like our conversation was still private. I really enjoyed how the staff explained what was in each dish and how it was prepared. A fun and delectable experience, overall.

It was excellent and the service could not have been better. I actually dreamed about the pork tenderloin! My only complaint would be that we weren't made aware in the offer that it would be a "special meal" for coupon holders (at least I wasn't aware). It was great, but we would have preferred to order off the menu. Some of the beer pairings were not what my date would have ordered.

My partner and I decided to try your restaurant for Valentine's Day. We found the atmosphere and service were extremely good for an intimate and romantic time on the town. We both ordered the New York Strip dish. We loved the vegetables included with the plate, especially the potato. The flavors were excellent as well. We both felt the meat was not as flavorful as we would have liked. It was cooked perfectly though. All in all, we had an extremely good experience and feel Chef's Table is a great place for special occasions.

My wife and I dined at Chef's table for a romantic post-Valentine's Day 3 course meal purchased off 'Here's the Deal'. The 3 courses were wonderful and complemented by a different wine. The presentation was exquisite, portions small - moderate and taste fantastic. I would recommend the Chef's table for those looking for an upscale dining experience that offers a variety of choices off the menu, a quiet and warm ambiance and food delivered in a gourmet atmosphere. Price is moderate - high for Iowa City.

We had the four course special menu for Valentine's Day with wine pairings, and it was spectacular. The high points were scallops and salmon, pheasant, bison tenderloin, and a flourless chocolate torte, but this description glosses over the exquisite care that went into the choice and preparation of the numerous ingredients in each course (including black truffles with the bison) and their wonderful presentation. A couple of the wines were especially nice, and we also purchased glasses of Perrier Jouet Brut champagne. It usually isn't available by the glass but was that night. It's the best sparkling wine we've ever tasted. The service was excellent. The staff made a point of knowing our names and describing each course in detail.
