From the warm reception at the front door, throughout the meal, and culminating with a fond sendoff, the staff at Chef Mavro treat you like honored guests. The wait staff are very knowledgeable, and make every effort to answer all questions. The food is outstanding! SO creative and beautifully executed -- an endless series of masterpieces! Even though it's pricey, I highly recommend the wine pairings which are available upon request. The wines are not only the perfect compliment to each course, but are from vintages from which you could never order a single glass. You will flip over the marvelous wines!

Everything soared at Chef Mavro's. We had the six course tasting menu with wine pairings. Each course was beautifully composed and flawlessly executed. The wine pairings (with one small exception) were superb. The service was polished, yet warm. The restaurant is expensive, but you are getting a world class meal.

Always see and hear about this place, but never thought I'd go. Something came up where we made the decision to go and though a little pricey, absolutely worth it. You can't get food like this at other restaurants. It's just an experience! I've been disappointed at other upscale restaurants for 'normal food' and noisy atmospheres, but this is luxury.

We wasted no time and chose the 6course meal. Although it was on the higher end it was worth spending the money. I especially enjoyed the the explanation of what each part of the food was, it was a conversation piece between my date and I. In addition to that, we weren't guessing which food tasted what. And Chef Mavro and his wife comes out to greet all their guest. It was an awesome experience.

I was prepared to enjoy my meal at Chev Mavro, but had no idea that I would be blown away by the exquisite food and wine pairing. From the first (free parking onsite) to having the chef come out and visit, everything was done perfectly. Good was not only delicious, but visually stunning as well. The wait staff was professional and friendly. Our every need was anticipated and provided for. I have gone to Alan Wong's for the last 12 years, never knowing that Chev Mavro was even BETTER! If it weren't so expensive, I'd eat hete all the time. For now, I will save up and plan my next visit. Well done!

The service at Chef Mavro's was very attentive and friendly, if questionably knowledgeable. The setting was appropriate, pretty, and comfortable. Unfortunately, the food was just good. I have no problem paying over $500 for dinner for two if the meal is special. Chef Mavro's was simply forgettable. The 'wagyu' beef was tough (how do you manage that), the wine pairings questionable, and very little was locally sourced. Only the fried cilantro on a second course and the dessert were worth noting. Again, at half the cost, this would've been a 'good' meal. At this price point, it is disappointing. I would not recommend for those trying to experience novel, modern, hawaiian cooking.

We, mu colleagues and I, always do a top restaurant when we are abroad. So in Honolulu that should be Mavro's. However, we started with a luke warm starter. Sauces served are far to heavy compared to the European way were they are much more lighter. Thereafter again a main course which was not at temperature. Wines were surprising I have to admit and well combined. The chef was visiting several tables but apparently had a preference for some of his guest. So we didn't see him !!! Tip from these visitors what real chefs do is talk to ALL their guests. To summarize Mavro is still quite far away form a recommendation in the Michelin World atlas much room for improvement I would say.

Perfect for birthday celebration and certainly a birthday that won't be forgotten! The spicy bigeye ahi, ogo, sea-urchin-aioli on basmati rice with shoyu powder was a great start. The scallop with chanterelle mushrooms was superb....cooked perfectly, velvety sauce, and the rich taste of mushrooms was incredible with the crispy, smoky bacon on top rounding out the flavor. Lamb....rosy tender and we savored the complex flavors with the wine pairing. Birthdays are about dessert....the Fig with pistachio was a lovely finale and they even delivered a special elegant birthday cake finish. Service made us feel like it truly was a special occasion.

This menu is prix fix with a four course or seven course dinner choice. You may choose wine pairings or no wine pairings. We chose the four course menu, one with wine pairings. The pairings were excellent with each course. There is some flexibility within each menu so you can adjust course choices with a charge. All items fresh and beautifully prepared. Service is friendly. Sit back and just let the food flow. Creative menu. $$$$

We did the chefs menu with the "standard" pairings. The food was absolutely excellent and the pairings were perfect. The chef came out and served the fish out of its salt crust and he was fabulous to talk to. The service was excellent. The only thing is the location is a little odd, but they had plenty of parking and the manager actually welcomed us as we got out of our car.

My husband and I go to Chef Mavro every year for my birthday and are impressed by every element of our experience - the food, the wines, the service - EVERYTHING is phenomenal. It was wonderful to see Chef Mavro himself presenting dishes to his guests and it was lovely to have his wife Donna visit every table sharing her aloha. I have traveled to many incredible destinations in my life and had some amazing dining experiences, but NONE compare to the experience of Chef Mavro. It is creative, delicious, world class dining without the pretentious atmosphere - everything is done with aloha. Chef Mavrothalassitis will always be my favorite chef and Chef Mavro's will continue the #1 fine dining experience I recommend to friends and family.

Chef Mavro ranks as one of the best restaurants at which we have dined. Frankly, it is hard to believe that there are not lines outside the door waiting to get in. We think that it is just not that well known, and that soon it will be just as hard to get into as Alan Wong's. We had one four course meal and one seven course meal. The Hudson Valley foies gras on the latter was described by my wife as the best she has ever had. When Chef Mavro himself cut open the salt-crusted Onaga table side, it just blew our mind. The wine pairings were exquisite, particularly the 2009 Brunello paired with the succulent lamb loin. A little stuffy for some and in a sketchy neighborhood, but the French/Hawaiian cuisine can't be beat.

Our introduction to Chef Mavro came when we pulled in to the parking lot and were escorted to the door by the parking attendant. Good start, but something about the wait staff seemed "off key" - - perfunctory service, no coordination. The wine flights were not well-selected and were mostly tart. The salt-crusted fish turns out to be fish cooked in pastry. Well, actually, it was overcooked and lifeless. Not good value for $500 plus for two.

If you like great food and wine pairings, this is the place for you. We did the Chef's tasting menu (the more expensive of the 2) with some substitutions from the regular tasting menu. We split one wine pairing between the two of us which was enough except for with one course. The service was very good. It is an expensive evening out, but I would definitely recommend it for a special occasion.l

Service was outstanding. The only thing they could improve on are the decor and view; just could use an update. Once you're inside it's very comfortable...and the service and food more than make up for it. Once the course start coming it doesn't matter where you are...just bring more of the delicious food!

My wife loved the return of the greatest hits menu including the fresh vegetables, Salt Crusted Onaga (served table side by the chef himself--perfectly cooked and topped with a vibrant flavorful tomato sauce), lamb loin with eggplant caviar in a crispy dough package, and the light as air bite sized Malasadas with vanilla bean ice cream. I tried the Chef menu and was wowed by course (the duck with Bhutanese black rice and lobster were favorites) after course perfectly paired with wine. I reluctantly shared one course with my wife--the goat cheese with kumquats and white honey, but I kept the decadent chocolate to myself. Service was warm and friendly. Special celebration and memorable evening!
