Diner Reviews
  • "The food was very good. I didn't like three of the courses but that was actually okay with me. My biggest issue was the atmosphere. I prefer Le Mer over Chef Mavro because of having a view."

  • "we had read reviews and were grateful to be able to use open table to make our reservation in DC. everything was perfect, servicem ambiance and the food extraordinary, interesting, surprising and always delicious. The explanations were specific, the presentation also perfect. one of our top dining experience in Hawaii and at home,"

  • "From the moment we walked in we were treated like royalty. The food and service was amazing. The chef came out and talked to us about our food allergies. He had no problem modifying the meal. After we were finished our waiter walked us to our car ( 2 women). I have never seen such service paired with such fabulous food."

  • "Best dining we have found in Honolulu in over a year of eating out!"

  • "Locally grown/raised ingredients prepared with a dynamic character utilizing classic french preparation. Chef Marvo masterfully uses European preparation techniques with the diverse Hawaiian palette of ingredients to create a multidimensional sensory experience. Uniquely Delicious as Hawaii is itself..."

  • "I went to there for boyfriend's birth day. Food is so good and romantic. We were happy . But I felt a little expensive for dinner. Especially night , I want to go to here again."

  • "Chef Mavro never ceases to amaze! Paired with fantastic food and a wonderful wine list, Chef Mavro has kept this restaurant at the top of the list of restaurants for those who appreciate fine dining and great service."
    Dined on 6/19/2014
  • "My only complaint was the lack of a real wine list. They rely on you selecting the wine pairings to go with your dinner instead. Food was outstanding."

  • "My friend and I are dining buddies who can afford to indulge our tastebuds at least every 4 - 6 months. Our dinner the other evening at Chef Mavro's was quite an experience: the excellent service is a given, and, the 4-course meal was a delightful series of surprises. At the end of the dinner, we were happily stuffed, yet, we walked, not waddled, out the door."

  • "Chef Mavro's, where to begin.. from the time you first step inside you can tell it will be a great dinner. Although the portions were small the four course dinner plus dessert was enough to ensure I had my fill. To be honest dinner at Mavro was a journey with my taste buds. the great thing about Mavro's is that the menu depends on season. Overall: I would surely return for the next seasons menu!!!"

  • "I had their tasting menu. Everything was quite good. The staff were very pleasant. I even briefly met Chef Mavro."

  • "This is my go to restaurant when I want a gourmet dinner and have had enough talking wait staff and huge portions. The food is of international quality and is served beautifully with attention to the look as well as the taste of the dish. Local ingredients are used as mush as possible for an international menu. The wine pairings are excellent and are wines that often one doesn't see much of, here or on the mainland. I eat here with each season and sometimes more as there are plenty of choices. It is the best dinner in Honolulu in my book. Just the palate cleanser with fresh watermelon balls in a gelee is enough to know you are in the presence of a true chef."

  • "We had a wonderful time--the food was delicious and beautifully presented, and the staff was attentive to our needs."

  • "Perfect for a special occasion. Well, it was the best Mother's Day Dinner I've ever had!!"

  • "As always, the food, service, wine everything about our visit was excellent. If I had only one meal left on this earth it would be at this establishment! This restaurant has all of the fun and good times of Disney World, except it is for adults. They never have an off day or meal everything is superb. We look forward to returning every year."

  • "Foie Gras perfection with mango three ways(pickled mango in one preparation adding a bright hit of acidity). The wine pairings with each course elevated the entire experience to a high note. Another favorite was the mushroom salad with hearts of palm, poha berries (loved this pop of flavor!!) and fresh taste of the sea--sea asparagus. The China town day boat catch was exceptional in preparation. It was difficult to choose our favorite course, but with out a doubt, the Wagyu beef with crispy Brussels sprouts was near the top of the list. The local goat cheese course with white honey is exceptional. And oh, the chocolate....it was out of this world with mac nuts, caramel and more. "

  • "The food was fabulous. The portions were more than sufficient and perfect for a multi-course dining experience. The staff were very observant, courteous, professional, and knowlegable. I had previously read reviews about portions being too small and the wait period between courses too long, but I found neither to be the case. Everything was appropriate and perfectly fitting for a true fine dining experience. We celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary and were able to create a wonderful memory at Chef Mavro's. If I wanted a quick, cheap, and large portioned dinner I would have gone elsewhere. However, I wanted a classy fine dining experience with exquisite food and service and I found that at Chef Mavro's."

  • "We tried "Chef's Summer Menu". No words needed...loved every plates and every wine. Each pairings made me surprise. This restaurant is not about ocean view nor romantic sunset, that's why it's great. "

  • "Outstanding personal service. Chef menu highly recommended. Sit back and enjoy."

  • "We had the 11 course dinner with the wine pairings. Lots of wine if you don't drink much. But, worth it. Every course was something to talk about. We will always go back there. Go hungry. Delicious experience! "

  • "Went with a group to celebrate after taking a board exam earlier in the day. Service was exceptional. A couple of the courses on the new menu were not my favorite, but others were phenomenal. The wine pairings were great as well. A special congratulatory dessert at the end was a really nice touch and really tasty as well. While the meal is definitely pricey, it is truly a great culinary experience making it great for a special occassion."

  • "This is a restaurant for the food, not a bar scene or drinks. There is no bar, no wine list, you go for the food. The menu is a fixe' menu with either a 5 or 7 course meal, only a main entree option on the menu and the option of wine pairing. For the caliber of restaurant the corkage fee is a reasonable $25, but make sure to review the menu first since you'll want to take a wine that will compliment the dishes, not a heavy red wine. Though the portions are not large, there are an ample number of them to make this a complete meal and not leave hungry. Each course is superbly and meticulously made to offer splendid blends of texture and flavors. None of it is standard high end kitchen preparation such as Alan Wongs. Recommended!!!"

  • "We had the four course dinner, with wine pairing, at Chef Mavro. Each course had so many wonderful flavors and the wine pairings were spot on. The fish course was one of the best pieces of fish I have ever had -- tender and tasty! Overall, a fantastic dining experience - would definitely recommend!"

  • "The day boat China Town style snapper was exceptional - cooked to perfection. However, it is hard for my wife and I to select a favorite course . . . selecting from the beautifully prepared lobster, with the light as air Chorizo Taro dumpling, to the Wagyu beef with lightly sweetened Brussels sprouts and a celery mousse. Wow. The cheese course with kumquats was combined with a white honey which we couldn't stop licking off the honey dripper. Everything paired with gorgeous wines. Relaxing and fun atmosphere with seamless service."

  • "What I love most of all about dining in Chef Mavro is that each dish is harmonious and pleasing to the senses in ways that are not found in upscale restaurants. Recently I had the opportunity to dine at several high end restaurants. If I were to select one, I would choose Chef Mavro. It was our anniversary dinner and we couldn't have had a better experience."

  • "We dined here to celebrate a birthday and it was the second to the last night of the winter truffle menu. Excellent and I can't wait to see what the new spring/summer menu will bring."

  • "Went for New years and had an absolutely amazing experience! This is the place you have to go to if visiting Oahu. Get the wine pairing dinner and you'll be telling your friends about it . . . FOREVER! The service is perfect and the food is THE BEST !"
    Dined on 12/31/2013
  • "It was our Anniversary dinner. The service was outstanding! From the moment we parked to the end of our dinner, the entire staff was extremely courteous. The décor was modern, but nothing very memorable, I just recall thinking thank goodness that the window was partially frosted next to us because for part of our dinner, there was a man standing right outside. The food mostly was great, portion sizes were perfect. We got the wine pairings and it did make a difference on the overall food experience. I should have asked about the price however for choosing special menu substitutions - got the wagu beef instead of the duck, not really worth the price for what you get. Disappointed by the desserts - not a strong point to the menu."

  • "Chef Mavro and Donna: Thank you for the wonderful food and service. Even if my sister and I visit once a year, your staff remembers us. That is special. Also, your staff was so accomodating when we asked for only 1 wine pairing but that my sister wanted a sip of each wine serving. We did not expect a set of wine glasses for her. Keep up the good work! We'll be back again."

  • "Having lived in Honolulu for 24 years, my choice is the Chef Mavro for the excellent food and rare and great choice of wine pairings. Outstanding service by welcoming staff, comfortable seats, fresh Hawaiian Protea flower on the table are my favorite. This time, Fried Bhutanese rice (small side dish for duck) was amazing for that texture, taste, looks and I loved it so much."
    Dined on 2/26/2014
  • "Food was really nice. Every dishes were very tasty. They served glass wines that matched each dishes. That service was very good."
    Dined on 3/5/2014
  • "2nd course was a little dry (don't recall the name of the fish), but otherwise everything was exquisite. The 4-course dinner with wine pairings was our selection, and I upgraded to the better wine selection on one of the courses. Quite pricey at $440 with tax and tip for two people, but we had to see what all the buzz was about!"

  • "Most creative food in Hawaii. Carefully prepared food from start to finish. Best wine pairings in any restaurant I frequent. Service is unobtrusive, but very efficient. A must stop in Honolulu."

  • "Fantastic experience with beautiful, delicious food, thoughtfully paired wines and impeccable service. Off the beaten path, but worth the modest effort to get to Chef Mavro!"

  • "We had a good meal, except for one course (the catch of the day, onaga) which was basically flavorless. Service was quite slow. Sommelier provided only limited description of each wine pairing."
