  • Public Transit: One of the main hubs for the IndyGo Bus service is directly across the street from Chef Joseph's at The Connoisseur Room on the corner of Ohio Street and Pennsylvania Street.
  • Parking: Public Lot
  • Parking Details: When dining with us for lunch, there are many different parking options available, from on-street, to self-parking surface lots, and paid garages. All are within a half block from our front door. We recommend the lot about 1/2 block away on Delaware Street next door to India Garden. Parking is $3.00, making it some of the most affordable parking in Indianapolis.
    For those dining with us for a private evening event, we have the option of providing valet service.

  • "We just recently discovered this little gem. The ambience was warm and inviting. The space is scaled perfectly for couples or a group of friends. We dinned earlier in the evening but luckily we were still there when the live music started. A talented piano player and singer's performance enhanced the atmosphere, but did not steal it. The food was extremely flavorful, visually appealing, and plentiful. The server was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. I would add that we enjoyed not being disturbed each time the server passed our table, however we never felt neglected. This is our personal preference others may not appreciate it as much as we do."

  • "The first time my fiance and I dined here, everything was great...the ambiance, the food, the music, the temperature, the service, etc. However, on our four month anniversary, I made a reservation and asked for a romantic seat, but they ended up seating us at a regular table near the front of the dining area...NOT romantic at all. Also, the temperature of the restaurant was VERY chilly and the chanteuse at the piano was VERY loud (so much so that my fiancee and I almost had to yell, and we were sitting two feet away from each other!). Also, the food was not so great; too small of portions and too little variety (not enough healthy options). I was very disappointed, especially for the prices! It will be sometime before we return!"

The wedge salad was perfect and the appetizers were very good. All selections were presented well. Our service team was courteous and kind and our food selections arrived without unexpected waiting.   • "Martini menu is well done. 1st course was loaded garlic fries & lamb confit tacos. Fries were average, tacos were memorable. 2nd course was wedge salad with Romaine lettuce; very average. Third course was beef tenderloin medallions and I had grilled Spearfish (special of the day). The beef was cooked medium (ordered med. rare) and was underseasoned. The Spearfish (my 1st experience with it) was more dense than flaky and I suspect it was overcooked. Fourth course was Cheesecake and I had Chipotle chocolate mousse. The whipped cream on the cheesecake was plain (no sugar, vanilla, etc.) and did not compliment the cheesecake. The mousse was dense vs creamy though had a good balance of hot & sweet. The tacos & ambience are the notables."

  • "We enjoyed a delicious meal-spinach and ricotta ravioli, ahi tuna with pesto and couscous, and chicken parmigiana with pasta. Also had the tomato and mozzarella salad, the wedge salad, the house salad and the chicken wing appetizer. Everything was exceptional, but the ravioli was the stand out. Wonderful! The cheesecake with caramel drizzle was fabulous. There was a jazz trio playing and they were perfect. Our service was great. We were made to feel like valued guests from the warm welcome until we were leaving. We will definitely be back."

  • "Decided to try this restaurant due to Open Table 1000 points. I brought a small group of colleagues and we just loved it. Billy, the waiter, was very friendly' efficient and accommodating of special requests. "Monsieur Boston" very much appreciated Billy's interaction with us. When there was an issue with Open Table points, John, the owner, took care of the issue beautifully. I cannot say enough about how well that was handled. Rest assured, this restaurant will be one of my regular stops during my frequent business trips to Indy. Thank you, Open Table, for bringing this one to my attention. Live music was nice and we had a lovely Pinot Noir, indicative of a very nice wine list."

  • "My husband and I sometimes travel from Illinois for the Indy symphony. On June 7 we decided to try Chef Joseph's because it was close to the venue. It was one of those memorable evenings that you sometimes are lucky enough to experience. We'll dine there again next time we're in the neighborhood. Everyone was friendly and solicitous - from the person who greeted us at the door, to the waiter, to the woman who manages the ambiance. The food was very nicely prepared and so good! He ordered the salmon special, and I had the shrimp dish. We normally pass on dessert, but we were having such a good time, we threw caution to the wind and split a slice of cheesecake with raspberry sauce. To die for."

  • "I arrived solo, after calling in my reservation for 4; then 2 earlier (my dinner party cancelled on me); I guess I should have mentioned that I would be dining alone, because the server left me sitting at the table with my menu as she was waiting on my dinner guest to arrive for about 15 - 20 minutes; I had to find some one to go get her and explain I was dining alone-she made up for the error w/great personal service and attention all nite-friendly suggestion: make sure, don't assume, when someone arrives alone that they are always waiting on a guest."

Often it is rare to find a single option that's not a basic pasta or a veggie burger for her but this was a whole different level of service. Also we were greated with a note at our table wishing us a happy anniversary signed by the staff. I would definitely recommend Chef Joseph's to anyone and plan to go back soon!"

  • "The entertainer, Melissa Schott, was fantastic (again). The service at CJ's is always excellent. This time, the portions seemed larger, and everyone in our group agreed that the food was delicious. One person ordered the Chicken Parm Open Face and found it tasty, but tough (the chicken was overcooked). Upon mentioning this to the waitress, however, the sandwich was taken off the bill. I ordered the Florentine Ravioli, a generous portion which was even tastier than I expected it to be. We all enjoyed the before-seven pm-half-price appetizers and the evening-long half-price well drinks. All in all, it was a very enjoyable evening with great entertainment, ambiance, food, and drink."

Made the note about our special night and had an autographed welcome card from the entire staff, followed by two complimentary glasses of champagne. Terrific start to a wonderful night. It is a short walk from the home of the Indianapolis Symphony making it an excellent way to spend time rather than sitting in wait of the parking garage deploying. I will go there often when spending an evening downtown."

  • "Our Mothers' Day Brunch experience could not have been better. First, there was a vocalist with a truly lovely voice being accompanied by one of our two favorite jazz pianists in town. Second, we surprised the owner (and us) by having an extra guest on a fully sold out day. He handled with aplomb and made my wife very happy that her granddaughter could sit with her. Third, the food was just outstanding, served buffet style. Some of the dishes tended to the rich side, but because it was a buffet, one could avoid those dishes and stick to healthier options (of which there were several tasty choices). All in all, it was great."

Magnificent setting inside, very classy, but not stuffy. The food and service are always top-notch and we have never had any issues along these two key fronts. As one of the few places that has live music (that you can still converse while it is being performed), it also sets itself apart. And the people who run the restaurant, from the two owners, to the chef and to the wait staff, they always give you the impression they are happy to see you as a patron. That is as good of an endorsement as I can give a place. Highly recommended."

  • "I've been to Chef Joseph's before with my family and enjoyed it. Therefore, we went back to celebrate my graduation from college and Mother's Day. Upon arriving, there was a note card wishing me congratulations signed by all the staff. This was unexpected and very thoughtful! Our food, from our appetizer, to our main course, to dessert was absolutely fabulous! The maître d' / host is always so pleasant and accommodating. He is one-of-a-kind at his job. Our server was very honest about food selections, personable and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is quiet and calm. They have pianists from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and light, live music after 7:00 p.m. I would highly recommend Chef Joseph's to anyone looking for an evening to remember!!"

  • "While my husband and I enjoyed our experience there, we were there driving a party of 6 to prom dinner who had a difficult time with their waiter. He had dropped a glass of lemonade on one young lady, mixed up their bills, then walked out on them when they asked him to correct it. The manager finally came out to straighten the situation. I am not sure if I would recommend this restaurant for future prom goers! My daughter said she would never eat there again..."

  • "There were 4 of us for dinner. The interior is warm and welcoming and the staff was friendly and attentive. I started with the Wedge salad which was average. It could have been colder. I ordered the New Zeland Mussel entree which was so disappointing especially since I am a mussel fan. The mussels were overcooked so they were like chewing on a piece of salty rubber. I ate about two. I actually thought the components of the dish did not go well with the mussels. I was impressed by the staff's concern and they offered to bring me something else. The rest of our party enjoyed their entrees but overall we were not very impressed. It also was very loud so not a good place for sharing dinner and conversation with some friends. "

  • "Went for Easter jazz brunch. Very impressed! The decor was gorgeous--great mix of updated modern touches with the original bones of the building. Food was good, especially considering it was a buffet. Service was excellent. The jazz pianist and singer were a great addition. Plan on going back for a date night for sure."
