Diner Reviews
  • "This is one of the rare occasions when they are open Sunday morning. It was an excellent selection of dishes in a buffet format. They kept a close eye on the buffet and were apparently replacing dishes that they believed had been on the steam table too long. Quality of food and service did not falter. We consider Chef Joseph's to be our favorite dinner restaurant in the Indy metro area. The Easter buffet did not diminish our appreciation of the establishment in any way. By the way, I hadn't seen a seersucker suit for at least ten years, but I saw one (complete with white shoes) on Easter."

  • "Went for Easter jazz brunch. Very impressed! The decor was gorgeous--great mix of updated modern touches with the original bones of the building. Food was good, especially considering it was a buffet. Service was excellent. The jazz pianist and singer were a great addition. Plan on going back for a date night for sure."

  • "Chef Joseph's at the Connoisseur Room has become our restaurant of choice, primarily because the owners and staff treat us like family, and because the entertainment is usually outstanding. The food is always great, as well. We know we'll always have an enjoyable evening at Chef's."

  • "We had a group of seven for Easter Brunch. Wanted to have something a little different and upscale. Chief Joseph did not disappoint. Lobster Bisque was exceptional. The salad selection and chilled meats were so plentiful I never made it to the hot buffet line but the rest of our group said it was exceptional as well. The selection of deserts was not large but the were outstanding. The bar service for drinks was affordable and very good. I will be going back for an experience off the menu."

  • "Love Chef Joe's food, great staff, fabulous environment and the live entertainment is spot on for the atmosphere. We go there for special occasions and wouldn't go anywhere else. Staff is caring and informed and menu is always great. "

  • "Had been for lunch and an after-work office affair, but never for dinner. Found it a hidden gem. It was like most of the room knew each other. A family feel to it. Food was good, too."

  • "Enjoyed a very. cozy atmosphere with tasty bar drinks, imaginative appetizer and flavorful entrees of beef and opah. The creme brûlée was light with a very smooth texture"

  • "I hosted a meeting at Chef Joseph's in December and have been meaning to get back to dine with my husband. We took another couple with us to dinner at Chef Joseph's Friday night. They enjoyed the supper club type atmosphere with live music and an energetic vibe! We are all looking forward to going back to Chef Joseph's again soon."

  • "Loved the ambience- Wedge salad not crisp and cold, short ribs excellent but Asiago chicken very "Olive Garden". Server uninterested until the very end of the meal, never checked if drinks and salads were ok. Won't be back."

  • "Ambiance, service, and entertainment were top-notch. We were a bit disappointed, however, in the food. We both ordered the mahi- mahi and found it to be a bit dry and without flavor. Salt helped enhance the flavor (should not be necessary in a quality restaurant ); however, it did nothing for the fact that it was overcooked. Options for noise level are inadequate. It was not quiet, moderate, or energetic. Rather, it was a bit too loud to fully enjoy the entertainment."

  • "We have enjoyed ourselves at Chef Joseph's a few times in the past and were always happy with everything. We decided to take my sister out for her birthday and thought Chef's Joseph's would be a great place, as we have had good service and enjoyed the food and atmosphere on prior visits. I believe the service last Saturday was among the worst I have experienced. The server forgot items, brought the wrong ones, was very slow (even though he mentioned he only had two tables at the time), had to re-figure our check to correct it twice, and my sister was not happy with her food. I think we would have to be feeling very open-minded to go there again."

  • "Most elements of the restaurant are good; i.e. food, service, and ambiance. But, the piano music is unnecessarily amplified to the point of being distracting. It is very difficult to have dinner conversation. Neighboring tables and even our waiter agreed that the volume of the music was too loud. While the piano is a nice touch, the main restaurant is relatively small and does not need the music to be amplified."

  • "Calamari was tender, Pinotage wine wonderful, Romano chicken best ever, salads were pretty ! Ben's service was quite a professional statement. Our out-of-town guests were duly impressed!"

  • "Chef Joseph's offers upscale dining in an elegant atmosphere. The waiter was awesome and the entertainment that night was fantastic. The food, not so much. Two of us ordered the Chicken Parmesan open face sandwich. Although tasty, the chicken was a bit tough and served on bread that required a hacksaw to cut through. My vegetarian friend ordered the Baby Spinach salad; good, but the portion size was very small and not at all filling. Others in our party ordered the Bison Burger and the Italian Beef sandwich, which they described as "okay but nothing special." We all agreed that CJ's menu is pricey. Overall, we enjoyed the atmosphere and entertainment and would return for that, but would not go there just for the food."

  • "Prices are a bit higher than I think they should be, but the food really was good. I had the goat cheese and marinara appetizer, which was out of this world. My friend ordered the bruschetta appetizer and it was very good as well. For my entree, I chose the spinach salad. When the salad was served, I then realized why he asked if that's what I wanted for dinner. This was not your typical large restaurant salad. It was quite small, but I ate more of my appetizer than I should have, so it worked out perfectly. Their portion sizes are probably right-sized, but we Americans are used to big portions. I left satisfied. My friend ordered the filet medallions and really enjoyed them as well. I would return for a special occasion."
    Dined on 3/11/2014
  • "We came with high expectations but left disappointed. There were few choices of entrees, and the two we selected were unremarkable. The marinara sauce on the spaghetti tasted about as if it came from a jar of Prego's or Newman's Own. The service was good, but the musical trio was annoying rather than entertaining. Prices were inexpensive, but we got what we paid for."

  • "As always a wonderful time! Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a elegant dining experience."

  • "The first time we came, the food was very mediocre. No seasoning and blah presentation. However, we decided to give Chef Joseph's a second chance and were glad we did. Our dinners were excellent. We also enjoyed the entertainment (guitar & harp combo)."

  • "Overall we enjoyed the experience, but I was very disapointed that I never heard back from anyone at the restaurant regarding my special seating request for my wife's birthday. I left a voicemail at the reataurants reservation line, and sent an email from their web site, requesting a certain table and never heard back from anyone. Needless to say we did not get seated at our requested spot, but a little communication letting me know before we arrived would have been nice!!!"

  • "We enjoyed our visit to Chef Joseph's. The food was delicious and we would return for that reason. We had a very slow server and were often wondering where he was. We noticed other tables completing their meals much more quickly than our table. We weren't in a hurry, but the waits for his attention were way too long. The service not comensurate with the quality of the meal."

  • "Very nice decor and ambiance. Live music was a pianist, solo then with singer. Service very prompt and attentive, but not overly so. Fried calamari appetizer was quite nice, as was the goat cheese and bread. 4 out of 6 of us were very impressed with our entrees. The other 2 had the Mahi. They found it lacking in seasoning. Bland. 2 had the ravioli, and both raved. One had mussels and was very happy also. I had the special that night, seared Ahi tuna with balsamic reduction over kale slaw. I loved it. Everything on the limited menu sounded great. Each tab had a drink, 2/3 bottle of wine, and 2/3 of two apps, and entrees. About $100. I was quite pleased with the whole experience. I think I can convince her to return, just not order the Mahi."

  • "We went for an anniversary dinner using open table for a reservation about 60 minutes out. They had a table waiting with a card signed by the staff which was unexpected given the short notice. Our table wasn't the best but we weren't expecting much. Good was satisfactory but nothing to write home about. Limited menu options but we enjoyed our appetizer, entrees and desserts. Service was attentive but as we were seated directly in front of the vocalist it was sometimes hard to hear. Overall it was a lovely evening and we had a good time."

  • "A small intimate restaurant with a warm ambiance. Dark woods, deep red carpet - a look and feel back in time. We wanted a light supper before theatre and opted small plates and salad. The lamb meatballs were yummy; i coud have done without the mushrooms in the mac and cheese; the salads were crisp and the blu cheese dressing rich. We will be back."

  • "Accommodated our group of 6 on short notice. Great location just a few blocks from our office downtown. Nice, upscale quiet atmosphere for our business lunch. Food was great. Our guests from Chicago enjoyed going to Chef Joseph 's versus one of the typical chain restaurants."

  • "My wife and I ate here to celebrate Valentine's Day, and will definitely be back. Everything about the experience was great. The ambience was one of the best I've had in any restaurant. Food was excellent, perfectly prepared, and the service was exceptional. The prices for the food were very reasonable, considering that the quality probably could have allowed them to charge more for the meals. Overall, great dining experience!"

  • "This is our absolute favorite for a romantic night out. The moment you walk in you know it's special. Warm and friendly greeting at the door - beautiful room- fabulous food and service - and soft live music all set the scene for pure enjoyment! We also love to invite friends and family as they have several seating options for groups. Did I mention a night at Chef Joesph's won't break the bank? My husband and I find it an exceptional experience at a remarkable price."

  • "Chef Joseph's has a changing menu to reflect what is available during the seasons. The food was well prepared and brought out in order. While my girlfriend had a glass of wine, I enjoyed some of their local beer selection. The jazz pianist was a definite plus as well. Would definitely recommend to a friend."

  • "As so many restaurants booked up early for Valentine's Day, I decided to book a reservation the evening before. I had mentioned in the reservation request for a nice table for my partner & I since this was a special evening for us. We were greeted by a very welcoming hostess whose warm smile made us immediately comfortable as she ushered us to a prime table in the front corner by the window. We loved the warmth of the heavy wood-clad walls while the piano player gently played classic tunes througout the evening. Our waiter provided excellent service, explaining menu options and had the perfect balance of attentiveness while allowing us to enjoy our evening uninterrupted. The food was perpared to perfection. We will definitely be back soon!"
