We were both very happy with the choice. The food was splendid, especially the beignets and the shrimp 'n grits. Service couldn't have been better-prompt, friendly, available and not intrusive. We started with calamari and salads - the calamari was tender and lightly breaded. In fact, the kitchen prepares seafood with panache. I had the mussels in a thai broth, a refreshing change from standard broths. The corn accompanying the crabcake was in the form of a chowder. The ravioli stuffed with crab and shrimp melted in your mouth.
The wait staff accommodated some fussy order changes, and even the busboys fulfilled some special requests. It was Saturday evening and from the moment we walked through the door, the staff was personable and professional. Our waiter, Benjamin, started off with such a vibrant passion about the menu, we all looked at each other and commented on what an incredible waiter he is. When he returned to take our order, he answered every question with a level of detail that you would think he was describing a fine painting. He offered recommendations that were outstanding. We all thought the food was excellent, especially the risotto, the crab cake, and the two desserts we shared. The service was not as fine--we were conscious at points of waiting for something or other, and the tea ordered with dessert by one of our group never arrived (but was at least not on the check). In the past, seated in the main dining area, I've found the service much better. The waitstaff may have been stretched too thin.

The restaurant was pretty empty and we were seated at a small table with a protruding brick wall which made it very uncomfortable to sit since our elbow would hit the wall. I looked around and saw at least 4 other couples seated at bigger tables (that sat 4) and asked if we could sit in one of those and or even move down to the other 2 seater table that was near a window where there was more elbow room and was told by the hostess that those were for people with reservations. The pitas were thin crispy and nicely seasoned. I had the seasonal greens great flavor wonderful dressing. My sister had a Caesar salad with chicken. The chicken wasn't great; didn't seem to be very well cooked. She sent it back and asked for no chicken. The waiter was gracious about it. The salad was brought by the maitre d' who asked if everything else was ok. Overall a good meal, great service. We did notice that there was quite a bit of pork on the menu. Although we were all intrigued by the appetizers, we elected to forego trying them as the entrees were calling more loudly. We decided that we would return another time for drinks and appetizers. But that didn't stop us from sampling drinks on this occasion as well! The cocktails were all delightful creations with catchy names and creative combinations. For entrees, we had a variety, including steaks, lamb chops, mushroom ravioli and a seafood medley. Every plate was cleaned! Compelled by a birthday to end on a sweet note,we a slice of cheesecake, doughnuts and flourless chocolate cake. It was my third visit to the Rockville location; I've been to Tysons and Friendship Heights locations many times.
We sat in the front dining room area. Our waiter was quite friendly and helpful making suggestions on various items on the menu. I loved the noise level: enough to create a sense of enjoyment but low enough to allow conversation with normal voices.
We had shrimp w gouda grits, scallops with bacon bits with creamy risotto (with smattering of corn and asparagus), rockfish, and lamb chops. All were a success. I can't remember the name of the desert with it was Cherries something or other and it was delicious.

The three standouts were the creamy pork sausage spaghetti dish- so good my husband actually closed his eyes in enjoyment and NEVER does that when eating. His bacon scallops were also quiet good and were served on a bed of asparagus corn risotto. The dessert, a cherry blossom tribute was a cherry streusel with pistachio ice cream garnished with pistachios.
