Diner Reviews
  • "As a D.C. resident, I had heard of Chef Geoff's but had never been. We had out of town guests and wanted to take them to a downtown restaurant after a stop at the Hotel Washington's rooftop bar. I selected Chef Geoff's based on the reputation and location. It was a hit! Our guests said it was the best meal they had had on their visit. We will go again even without out of town guests in tow."

  • "The bar is always mobbed, the food is always spot on and the ambiance gets you ready for your evening. Enjoy!"

  • "The perfect place to enjoy dinner before a show at the Warner Theater! You and your special someone can enjoy a fantastic meal and drinks. When showtime comes along, simply cross the 13th Street and you are at the Warner!!"

  • "If you use opentable to search for brunches in DC you'll find that this chef geoffs does not provide service as advertised - no jazz band, not fruit starter, no bread starter, and very poor brunch portions! Love the chef geoffs in Rockville so thought this would be great but was sadly let down - our waiter was so slow to service (he only had 3 tables?!?), we had to repeatedly ask him for drinks and was shocked how long we had to wait when there was little to no one there - definitely don't need a reservation if you decide to go because there's no one there - definitely not a brunch seen and will definitely not go back - if you dare to try for yourself beware! #worstbrunchspotindc"

  • "Chef Geoff's is a great place to go before or after the Warner or National Theaters. We have never had a bad meal here and their drinks are fantastic. We had pre theater dinner reservations but due to all the traffic from the Cherry Blossoms, we were very late. We called ahead to let them know we were running late. They were very nice about it and very accommodating and saved our table for us. Thanks!"

  • "We had the tuscan style muscles and they were absolutely amazing. A must!"

  • "My business guest and I were initially seated near to the bar area, which is an open corner of the restaurant. The noise level at 7 p.m. (apparently still "happy hour") was deafening! (Later that evening, on our way out, the noise level had returned to conversational.) After moving to a table farther away, we had a very enjoyable dinner. Service was professional: friendly and polite, but unobtrusive. This was much appreciated as we had several items to discuss that evening. The menu is broad with many interesting choices for a return visit. Our dinners were quite good and nicely presented. I definitely recommend Chef Geoff's and shall certainly return... but only to a table at the opposite end of the restaurant from the bar."

  • "I totally enjoyed my dinner at Chef Geoffs. The menu was varied enough to please everyone in our party and the prices very reasonable. The dinner salad was just average (basically lettuce and dressing with a few pistachios thrown in) however the trout, crab cakes were excellent. Service and atmosphere were excellent."

  • "Easy place to drop in for good food, reasonably priced in relaxed and low key atmosphere. Has the feeling of a neighborhood pub."

  • "Husband and I went for happy hour. The bar was really full, but hostess helped us grab a table to eat. The party seated next to us was very loud. But the happy hour burgers and drafts were good. Table service wasn't the best in the bar."

  • "We had a great time at Chef Geoff's after the Cherry Blossom run on Sunday. The omelettes were amazing!! The bloody marys and mimosas were awesome too. We loved our waiter/bartender Sean. He was so much fun. We can't wait to return to CG for brunch or even Happy Hour. Thanks! We will definitely return soon."

  • "Chef Geoff's at 13th Street is in a great location for visiting museums and the mall before sitting down for a wonderful meal in sophisticated surroundings. I have eaten at the 13th Street location numerous times and have never been disappointed. The service is always appropriately attentive and the food arrives in a timely manner. The calamari appetizer is crunchy just enough and the sweet potato fries were a big hit at our table of six. The menu has a wide selection, and out two teenagers had plenty of choices to please them. Overall, this restaurant provides very tasty food at good value prices. It's sophistication without being snobby. Always fun to eat at Chef Geoff's."

  • "Overall food was good except the coconut shrimp which cut up pieces of shrimp sprinkled with coconut flakes. The waiter was horrible. He barely opened his mouth. No enthusiasm and the host never acknowledged that it was my hubbys bday which I put in opentable.."

  • "A group of us met here to catch up and eat. The service was outstanding...our waitress explained things well, made outstanding recommendations, and was attentive. The food was tasty. It wasn't "WHOA...the BEST," but very good. The menu had a great variety. The main-course salads were very tasty and filling. Both ravioli dishes were tasty but not over-powering. Both the salmon and the rockfish came with sides that complimented their flavors well. The desserts were very well-sized and rich, without being over the top. My only complaint is the noise level. SO LOUD. There were only six of us, but the folks on the ends missed half of the conversations. We all had to speak with raised voices...which only exacerbated the issue. I'd go back."

  • "Beet & goat cheese ravioli were what I ordered and I enjoyed it tremendously - it's a fantastic dish, complemented with a light, creamy sauce, sweet onions and some kind of nuts. My friends had similarly delicious, unique dishes."

  • "Food was good but service was very slow. Place was NOT crowded at all, but our waitress barely ever came to table. Needs a little more training I guess."

  • "We made a last minute reservation for 5 @ Chef Geoff Downtown this past Saturday. We were sat right on time and were promptly waited on by our fabulous server! The selections were plentiful and enjoyed by everyone. Entrees were above average by the best by far were the desserts! Chef Geoff's employess a pastry chef and it's very clear in both the selections and the quality of the desserts served. We enjoyed a selection of house made ice creams, the donuts and the flourless chocolate cake- all magnificent! Even my daughter's brownie sundae was superb! Great location right downtown across from Warner Theater. We'll look forward to returning in the future"

  • "I have eaten at Chef Geoff countless times and I will say that I am always amazed at how wonder my meal is! I had a few friends visiting from out of town and they really enjoy the place. Our waitress was also very nice went over and beyond to make sure that we enjoyed our meal! My favorite dish is the Wild Mushroom Ravioli which is just so delicious! While I did find myself a little disappointed that the menu had not been updated in while, I think I would be more devastated if I couldn't order any mushroom ravioli."

  • "Proximity to parking, theaters, and the Mall with all the museums make this a convenient stop for lunch and dinner. The noise level makes the restaurant less attractive for a quiet night with friends, but fine for a meal before a show or after a day wandering the museums. Geared toward a lively, younger crowd who doesn't mind the noise level. Food was fair to good. It's prime attraction is location."

  • "My mother and I had a great brunch before a matinee at the theatre here. I'm still copying the brie stuffed french toast for my friends to rave reviews. We had good old world type service and the bar was busy at 11:30am. I would go back."

  • "The food is excellent and it's super convenient for a Warner show. The waitress we had a attitude and was rude. Other than that, it was great"

  • "We have been to Chef Geoff's on many occasions and each time the food and service has been exceptional. This time was no different. We opted for a small plate approach and ordered multiple appetizers and side items. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and offered good insight regarding our food choices. The calamari, mac'n'cheese bites, and crab cakes were all flavorful and exquisitely prepared. As far as the sides are concerned, be prepared for sharing. The broccolini was crisp and fresh, while the very gouda grits was bursting with lumpy cheese goodness. Any time we are in Penn Quarter, Chef Geoff's is great stop for lively atmosphere and amazing food!!"

  • "This was an ideal place for 4 friends coming from 4 different locations to meet for lunch. We tried different dishes, and everything was very good. The wild mushroom ravioli and mussels were especially tempting."

  • "We went to the Theatre and then to Chef Geoff's for dinner, it is right around the corner. Perfect location and great food, for the adults and for kids."

  • "I remember CG in New Mexico Avenue had quality food about 10 years ago. This was my first time at the downtown location but I was disappointed with the quality of the food as well as the whole ambiance. Food was not bad but was mediocre at best - definitely not prepared with fresh ingredients and not much different from many chain restaurants. Perhaps the place is now geared towards the tourists and families, or the restaurant has not kept up with the higher quality of many of the new restaurants. The place was loud and had many of the chain restaurant feeling to it. The waiter was attentive and very professional though. That said, I would not go back there - there are so many restaurants in DC with better food and ambiance."

  • "Unfortunately our waiter seemed to find us not suitable for this place, it took more than 10 minutes to get our beers ! but the food is great"

  • "This was a very nice restaurant and the food is great. The only problem we had were some completely irresponsible parents who obviously thought they were at McDonalds. Their kids yelled and screamed the entire time we were there and the parents did nothing. These kids were old enough to know better and it ruined the atmosphere of the restaurant. The manager was aware of the situation and came over and apologized while offering free dessert. I honestly think they did all they could to hurry the people up but it was to no avail. These people were truly clueless! Restaurant was tremendous!"

  • "right across the street from the theatre - make a reservation! Waiter was great, wine was great, Chef Geoff's Amber beer was great. Has a nice cozy feel - very nice but not too fancy. Scallops with risotto was our best dish, short ribs tasty but a little dry. Overall very happy with the experience."

  • "Each of us had a salad and then an appetizer. Plus glass of wine. Delicious! Service excellent and attentive to our need to get to the theater on time! We were in a fairly quiet part of the restaurant away from the bar, and it made a great difference in terms of ability for two people to talk."

  • "I had lunch here last Friday -- and have been here before - but had never had the crab cake. It was excellent as well as the sweet potato fries, which i think were the best I have ever had - with the crispness and the creamy sweet potato as you bit into it and a dusting of sea salt finished it off quite nicely. Delicious!"

  • "Right across the street from Warner Theater and National Theater is around the corner. We had good food and terrific service in a fun atmosphere."

  • "Great table. Servers brought out the main course and made no attempt to clear salad plates and sort of left the plates on the edge of the table. Kind of weird when everything else was done so well. Food was delicious, Staff was friendly even if poorly trained. Great for after Warner Theater dining. Just across the street."

  • "Food was excellent, but way over priced (although probably reasonable for the DC theater district)."

  • "We noted in our reservation from Open Table that we had theatre tickets. The waiter already knew this and assured prompt service so that we would be on time for the scheduled performance at the Warner. Great food, great service."

  • "Although we live more than 60 miles away from DC, this is our go-to place whenever we go either the National and Warner Theatre. It never disappoints but reservations are very helpful!"

  • "We were very pleased that the restaurant had a quiet dining area in the back that was not impacted by the very noisy bar area in the front of the restaurant. Also liked the proximity to the Warner Theater across the street and to Metro Center. I am sure we will return."
