Diner Reviews
  • "this place has fantastic food and desert ."

  • "The food was Great! The service was excellent! The cocktails AMAZING! The restaurant is a little on the dark side and LOUD, but such is the price of fame. Parking is an issue, but possible All in all, definitely worth a visit"

  • "Great dining experience with two first-timers! Kudos!"

  • "We've been to Chef Geoff's numerous times on New Mexico Avenue and loved the experience, from the food to the attentive service. The restaurant is consistently packed for dinner. But at the Downtown location, we were very disappointed. The food was still up to par, but the ambience was dead and service was horrible. We'll go back to Chef Geoff's, but not at this location."

  • "Had a nice dinner with our family of 4 after seeing the monuments and walking around DC. Wait staff was attentive and very good with the food allergies. Lamb Kofta, Scallops, cheese pizza and kid-sized salmon were all enjoyed by our party."

  • "Delicious! Food allergy-friendly. Staff was lovely. Great happy hour in the bar. Perfect for catching up with friends."

  • "Knowing they are across the street from the Warner Theater, and around the block from National Theater, they "know" service that is timely is a winner, and they certainly delivered (since we got tied up in traffic, at the time of the reservation they texted me to confirm we were still coming, and I passed the phone to my companion so she could respond that we were almost there. They obviously held the table.). I frequent the Chef Geoff's in Tysons due to my proximity and the food, atmosphere and service is always exemplary, so I expected nothing less here at Downtown. They met my already high expectations! Our waiter Gilbert was superb."

  • "It stinks how you cannot sit at a table and enjoy the happy hour offers. You can at Aria, just down the block."

  • "I always struggle with what to get, even as a vegetarian, because there are so many options and different types of cuisine available. This time I just got the vegetarian sandwich, and it was excellent. A bit spicy and full of veggies. Sweet potato fries were awesome. Great dining experience."

  • "This was my first visit to Chef Geoff's. The two most notable elements of the visit were the very excellent service and the noise level. If you are looking for a quiet dining experience, this is NOT the place. The food was good, nothing to complain or rave about. The location right across from the Warner Theater is very convenient for theater patrons, and the reason I choose Chef Geoff's."

  • "Went for the happy hour menu prior to seeing YES at the Warner. Discovered that it was not available in the nice but plain white linen dining area - after being seated. Told them I would sit at the bar while consulting with my dining parter what they wanted to do. Not only were they perfectly okay wig that, the mat'rede walked up to me after a few minutes and let me know she had scoped out a bar table for two that would be freeing up soon that she would set up for me. Wow! The burger was quite good - a bit short of gotta go back to do that again. But the service - Wow! Hard to find Wow service nowadays."

  • "While the food was excellent the service was even better - Thanks for a great dining experience"

  • "Right across the street from the Warner Theatre, it was a great place to meet up, eat and have a few drinks with friends before the show. They have a decent beer selection, and mixed the best gin & tonic one of our party member has had. Note: the large beer is a liter, so be ready for it! Mussels were good, salmon burger was not bad. An enjoyable time was had by all!"

  • "I hadn't been here for awhile, but made an appointment to meet an old friend who works at City Hall (Wilson Building) and thought this would be a god chance to stop by Chef Geoff's. I was right. We were greeted at the front desk and shown to our table immediately even though it was crowded and noisy. My salmon burger was as I remembered it from several years ago. My friend had salmon salad and enjoyed it also. I realize that chefs get bored and want to "update the menu". I just hope that Geoff doesn't feel the need to change for change sake."

  • "The restaurant was nice and clean as always. We had a couple in our group that had never been there before and they really enjoyed it. Our waitress was nice and attentive. We got there early and there wasn't a problem seating us."

  • "I have been to Chef Geoff's many times, at multiple locations. This was my least favorite visit. We were expecting to take advantage of the happy hour, but we were told we could not unless we moved to the bar area where it was so noisey, it was impossible to chat. The waitress seemed annoyed that we were not ordering dinner and treated us as an annoyance. If this had been my first visit, I would not return."

  • "What a wonderful jewel for theatre goers. Great menu options with a creative flair. Tasty, reasonable portions and nice prices. Be sure to try their selections with bacon and don't forget the very Gouda grits. Yummy"

  • "Chef Geoff's Downtown is a branch of the more popular Chef Geoff's on New Mexico, in Rockville, and so forth. It is hidden on 13th Street, across from the Warner Theater. The menu consists of locally sourced and seasonally appropriate food, well prepared and served promptly. The wines, beers, and cocktails are also locally sourced, with higher quality wines available by the bottle. The service was slightly slow initially, but once our order was taken, the cocktails and food arrived promptly. The prices are appropriate for a downtown location, but not so high as to eliminate diners on a budget. I would recommend this location for groups, lunches, and those seeking to eat well without spending a fortune."

  • "I had a big urge for a turkey burger. In reviewing the menus on Open Table Chef Geoff's had one that looked amazing. We made a reservation there over other places because of that. How disappointed we were when we went to order to find out the Turkey Burgers were a seasonal item and weren't available. We were short on time so we stayed. The compromise was the turkey wrap which was quite good. My girlfriend's salad was also very good as was the service. The restaurant is definitely worth a visit but be careful as the menu shown on the Open Table site may not be what is available when you get there."

  • "I took my parents here for a nice meal when they came into town for a visit - surprised by the variety on the menu, several interesting dishes/combinations I hadn't heard of before and wasn't expecting for a place like this. It's pricey, but well-priced for the quality of food and service. Excellent service - polite, unobtrusive, and fast. Highly recommend."

  • "We were here July 3 and it was raining, so we decided to arrive an hour earlier than our reservation to avoid some of the downpours. We had no trouble being seated early. Loved the shrimp and grits and the key lime pie."

  • "There was an active happy hour group, but they seated us awaybfrommthe noise. We visit this restaurant whenever we are in town, and we really enjoy it. This time was no exception."

  • "My guest was late (she had to take Metrorail to our lunch). The staff were very considerate and found us a window table for our lunch. We were made to feel welcome and will return soon."

  • "I made a reservation through Open Table. When I checked in with the reception, they did not have my reservation, but seated my party as they were not busy that Sunday. When another of my party came, the receptionist told her that we were there but had already come and gone. Which I found rather strange as the receptionist seated us about 20 mins before. The dish I ordered ended up being something else, and there seemed to be a lot of confusion that evening."

  • "Delicious meal - 2 of us had the steak, frites & arugula salad. Delicious. And 2 had the sesame tuna - also a big hit. Only negative was waiting for 30 minutes with a reservation."

  • "The food was good, energetic crowd prior to attending theatre events and happy close to the theatres."

  • "My friend and I decided to try Chef Geoff's before our show at the Warner Theatre. There were so many things on the menu that looks great, it was hard to decide what to order. We ended up with the truffle popcorn as a starter, then had the beet and goat cheese ravioli, followed by the Pad Thai. We finished with the cinnamon doughnuts with three dipping sauces. Everything was wonderful. Our server was super attentive and very personable. We enjoyed it so much, we are planning a return visit soon!"

  • "We went here before a show at the Warner. Great rainbow trout, steak fries superb. Key lime and pineapple cake to die for! Good Pinot Grigio. Will come again and recommend to friends."

  • "We were seated promptly in the area with a lot of windows with great natural lighting...the appetizers were great. Salads were perfect, though dressing choices were limited. Our server was very friendly and accommodating."

  • "I read reviews before I went and they were all true. The service was amazing. The food was so so yummy and arrived at the so fast. I will be returning!"

  • "I have only had the salads and burgers. Nothing remarkable but they are fresh and well done. I understand that they are changing the menu this week. It will be interesting how dramatic the changes are. Wait staff pleasant but not overly friendly. And I consider myself a good tipper."

  • "Either take the steak off the menu or make it better! Your fish is outstanding, most of your other dishes are simply great, but the steak was disappointing for my carnivore husband."
    Dined on 6/24/2014
  • "Good food and had a more sophisticated menu for the kids, including a salmon that my daughter enjoyed."
    Dined on 6/23/2014
  • "My kids were excited to return to Chef Geoff's for lunch on Sunday after visiting for dinner a few months prior. How disappointed were we all to find ONE lunch item (grilled cheese) on the kids menu for our noon lunch!? C'mon -- people with kids have been up for HOURS on a Sunday (ours slept in until 715am that day!) and are no longer interested in just breakfast options. We asked about a hamburger at least (since they were on the adult menu) and the waiter hemmed and hawed and finally offered to ask in the kitchen! They said they would do it but by that time one kid warmed up to the idea of a grilled cheese (he only ended up eating half and wasn't happy with the sweet potato fries) and the other kid split the steak and eggs with my husband"

  • "Food was flavorful, service was attentive without being overbearing, and the location is great for those of us who spent the day "playing tour-guide" on the National Mall. 1 pizza plus two individual salads was the perfect amount of food for two hungry women."

  • "My husband and I had dinner here on Friday night and it was great! We visited based on proximity to the Warner theatre and a recommendation from a friend. The food was great, the staff was accommodating, attentive and friendly. We were looking for something low key with great food and we were pleased. Portions were a bit big but over all I would highly recommend Chef Geoff's to fiends ."

  • "We ate early, 4:30 PM on Tuesday. Our daughter was graduating from high school at DAR Constitution Hall about a mile away. It was fairly empty but getting more crowded as we left. could easily handle larger parties. Food and service were great. Favorites at the table were shrimp and cheese grits and the donut dessert dish."

  • "Our party had a tasty risotto, lamb samosas with fresh sauces, a perfect hamburger for our teen, and nicely prepared fish tacos. An eclectic menu and all prepared well."
