But corner table by the window was great. The large front windows make it all feel roomy! The food was amazing down to the small slice of andouille sausage tucked into the bacon wrapped shrimp that topped the shrimp and grits.

Everyone enjoyed what they ordered. We went for Mother's Day brunch. We actually had Mother's Day brunch on Sat afternoon at 2:30pm because that was the only reservation time left for the whole weekend. On Sat during the day they have a brunch menu. I had always read reviews on how good the chicken fried steak is so I decided to try it. It was great! I was afraid the jalapeno gravy might be to spicy so I had it on the side. It had a wonderful flavor and wasn't hot at all. My husband NEVER eats chicken fried steak. I encouraged him to try a taste of it and he said, "I don't like chicken fried steak but that is really good. Rothschilds store when they moved to 23rd St. Quite a change in the neighborhood and it is lovely to have the Cheevers restau-

I am not a big fan of calamari, but we ordered some and it was delicious! It was not oily from the deep frying and very tender. The dinner rolls brought out before the main dishes tasted of Italian seasoning and were also very good. Our server even brought a second bowl of them after our party polished off the first bowl. Our main dishes were all very good as well. We found ourselves sharing tastes of our dishes with each other. Portions were a bit large, but very little food was left to take home after our meal. I ate there during Sunday brunch, though what I chose was more of a lunch item. I tried the masa vallo con huevos, and it was very, very good. Some of the menu items were upscale breakfast fair, while others had a sort of latin/southwest lunch feel - with decent prices. For two plates, with waters, the bill was $26. The staff was friendly, and not overly attentive. The atmosphere was simple, open and bright, with a number of large windows. If you're wondering how to dress, the other patrons ranged from their Sunday best, to tattooed casual. My only complaint was we had a reservation for 8 and didn't get seated until 9:15 and we were only a party of 3. The manager did make up for this by giving us our appetizer and first round of drinks on the house.
