  • "This is one of if the the best resaurants that i have ever been to. If you are planning a Anniversary or a special occasion, go to Checkers!!!!!!I took flowers to the restaurant when they opened to have them ready on the table for when we arrrived. When we arrived they were on the table. They go the extra mile."

  • "The food was delicious! I had the Thai Noodles (a seasonal entree) and my husband had the T-Bone Steak. Both were substantial portions and very flavorful. The only thing my husband regretted was that they served only one slice of their warm, tasty bread at a time instead of leaving a basket or plate of bread on the table."

  • "This is among our favorite restaurants not only in Central PA but anywhere. The food is perfectly prepared and served in a professional and friendly manner. The new location takes on the best of the former location's interior but is larger and more comfortable without losing any of the intimacy of the original."

  • "My favorite restaurant in Lancaster for food and service. Has a nice menu with small plates, entrees etc. Also excellent cocktails. Reasonably priced for what you get. A must: reservations. I was there this time for lunch on a Wednesday and there was a sign at the reception desk that said reservations after 8:30 only. Make ahead a few days or a week in advance."

  • "We were spending the day in Lancaster and searched for a good restaurant - we thought checkers looked interesting. And in fact it was far more interesting than anticipated in terns of the appearance, the menu and the quality of the food. A 1st class bistro."

  • "What a great find! The food and staff are amazing, the ambiance is wonderful and you had a diverse crowd of diners. There are gorgeous banquets or tables and a beautifil bar. The Hendricks mojito was perfect. We enjoyed the Checkers apple salad, the tuna frites and the scallops. We had to ask for more bread to get every last bit of sauce and juices. We were too full for dessert but the rhubarb crisp made my mouth water. Also, they are so thoughtful. I had mentioned it was our 10 year anniversary and they made us feel special. We will be back. Again and again. Also of note, while the prices are more upscale, it really is a great value. You won't leave hungry and definitely be dreaming if the next time."

  • "Everything was fantastic. From the outside it looked a bit odd and unpromising but once you step inside it's beautiful, modern and lively. Only problem was the seating. We were sat in a corner next to a double dating couples who were rather noisy."

  • "We loved Checkers Bistro when it was at the old location -- this new location, happily, is better. It is elegantly decorated and thoughtfully arranged for the enjoyment of the diners. Even the cloth hand towels in the "loo" were a tribute to their desire to pamper guests. The food and the service were outstanding, and the bar where we enjoyed a pre-dinner drink was relaxing and conducive to conversation and relaxation. We'll be back -- want to try the brunch!"

  • "It would be hard to find a more enjoyable restaurant in terms of food, wine and a friendly and professional wait staff. We eat here as often as we can and it is always a tremendous dining experience. Definitely a place not to be missed when you are planning to dine in the Lancaster area."

  • "Our only complaint is, with many available open tables, they sat us by the service station."

  • "This my third time at this restaurant and by far my best experience. The other 2 dinners were good, but this one was amazing. I am a vegan and the chef usually makes me up a special plate. The one this week was a grilled eggplant, grilled oyster mushrooms, sauteed spinach and roasted red peppers with a soy citrus vinaigrette. The flavors exploded in your mouth, smoky and salty. I can't give it enough stars."

  • "We had been to Checkers several times while at James and Mulberry. The new location and setting is great! It definitely added to the already awesome food and service. Knocked a point or two down for noise as one in our party had hearing difficulties and she missed much of the conversation."

  • "My wife and really enjoyed our special dinner with friends at Checkers. The service was super. Thanks, Kelly! Our desserts were served with a beautiful memo and it was written in chocolate. Yum. Great steak and salad. Nice wines. Checkers will be reserved for our special nights. John and Deb"

  • "We have been going to Checkers and its many predecessors for decades. It was our favorite restaurant for many years in its original location, and in its new location is not only our favorite for both spur-of-the-moment dining and special occasions but is in our judgment the best restaurant in Lancaster -- a high standard, because the city has many good restaurants. The new decor is great, the noise level is well controlled, the service is always good, and the food is outstanding."

  • "My husband and I arrived in time for our 6:30 reservation. At 6:45 we were seated at a round ample table in a secluded area that was very satisfactory since it happened to be our wedding anniversary. Our server (last name Newcomer) was attentive and provided us with information about the menu items. Our food was good, service was good and we left with a lovely rose that was an anniversary gift."

  • "We eat at Checkers several times a year and we really are enjoying the new location. Food was great. Service is more consistent at this location although our server was a bit slow to take our orders. After that everything was fine."

  • "Dined here for our anniversary. Haven't been to Checkers Bistro since they moved. We were seated in a half moon booth that was very comfy. It's beautiful inside and the layout is perfect. Our waitress was very nice and friendly. Started with a shared calamari dish that was tasty. Waited 30+ minutes for our next course..French onion soup. Waitress apologized saying a large table in back that she was serving was ordering a lot of items and it was backing up our order. While I was understanding, my husband reminded me that we should be just as important as a bigger table. Our entrees came late we well, but were delicious, we had coffee crusted filet mignon. Would return again, but hope to feel just as important as a larger group next time."

  • "We were seated at a great table, away from the bar area which seemed a bit loud for us. The menu is small, but the food was excellent and a nice selection of small plates and classics. $22 for 3 diver scallops seemed a bit steep which was our reason for not ordering. The small salad is definitely small, but very good. The pasta bolognese, my husband said was the best he has had in a long time. Loved the fish and chips, but substituted asian slaw for the chips. The fish was a haddock and it was fresh and a nice portion. The bread....wow...this was a 7 grain bread we were told they purchase from Maryland. Outstanding. Ate too much bread. Wine list had a descent selection of mid price wine."

  • "Great ambience contrasting remnants of an old factory (interesting) with contemporary chic. Great food--inventive menu, delicious, varied to appeal to variety of appetites and food preferences, service very attentive without overdoing it. We look forward to our second visit."

  • "My new wife and I went to Lancaster, PA for our honeymoon. This place was recommended to us so we decided to make reservations and check it out. Staff was great, the appetizer bread was amazing and the butter that went with was also amazing. She had the coffee cured petite filet and I had the salmon filet and we were blown away by such awesome flavor all the way down the side of brussels sprouts. The smashed potatoes were so creamy and the risotto butternut squash cake was great. And what made it even better is the time in which our food came because some places take too much time to cook meals like this and it was served to us very quick. Dessert was great as well. We had the strawberry champagne sauce cheesecake special... amazing!!!"

  • "Checker's is definitely one of the best restaurants in Lancaster. Food is fabulous along with the chic decor. Can't wait to return & try more from the menu. Definitely recommend the Diver Sea Scallops & roasted red beet & goat cheese salad. Love going to their website & using Open Table to make reservations. Book early, as they are usually sold out!"

  • "The tall booths add an elegant ambience to the already romantic feel with fancy chandeliers. The plates were of reasonable portion sizes and came out so quickly. Delicious from start to finish with room for dessert. Would recommend for special occasions."

  • "Took my wife to Checkers Bistro for our anniversary and we couldn't be more pleased. Everything was done so well. The ambience, the service, the food...it was all excellent. We got very special treatment because it was our anniversary; from a customized dessert to a rose for my wife to all the staff wishing us a happy anniversary as they passed us. It was a memorable experience. Oh and the food was absolutely incredible and would make any foodie happy. 5 stars from both my wife and me!"

  • "Made reservations on Open Table - noting we wanted a quiet table and that it was our anniversary. This was our first time at Checker's Bistro. We will definitely be going back. The food and service were excellent. We went early so we could check out the bar. Bartenders were efficient and able to concoct different types of drinks. Our dessert plate stated Happy Anniversary in chocolate. Nice touch!"

  • "I have always loved Checkers-but ever since they moved into larger quarters it is so good...parking is easy, the restaurant is larger and beautifully done. I would recommend this for sure...a true gem in Lancaster!"

  • "Chef Daniel is a master and we favor Checkers. The new location is sophisticated and chic, and the menu is not huge but everything is great! If the simple Thai noodle dish is available (which it is this month) don't miss it."

  • "We requested our waiter, Tim, to select our entree and he made an excellent choice (Salmon). The French Onion soup was very good but couldn't surpass the taste of the Lobster Bisque. Our next reservation will be in Tim's area and he'll get to make another choice for us. Outstanding service."

  • "Staff was attentive and knowledgeable however did not ask how our main course was. We were seated right away with a reservation. I ordered the fish "special" that evening and was extremely underwhelmed by it. The fish was fried (pan fried I believe) and seemed dry and overcooked. The asparagus risotto was not seasoned well. My husbands filet on the other hand was cooked perfectly rare. The calamari was OK but was a little tough for my liking. The sauce that accompanied it though, was a different but nice touch. The french onion soup was the highlight of my dinning choices. Also they did have a nice wine list. All and all it was OK. Would return for a second visit, I just might not order the "special" next time."

  • "Excellent food , service, and atmosphere. The staff is most attentive and prompt. I was most impressed by the fact all our food came out piping hot! Just the way we like it. We asked for a birthday pic from the server and when we were finished, they offered a rose & after dinner sorbet to my wife. We will return! "
