The food was great and the view us amazing. The staff did a good job. The server was always addressing us in third person "how are we doing" it sounds very unprofessional and separates the server from the group. It dish note seem that there was a dining room manager coaching the staff they all seemed to be working independently and not functioning as a team. This was not to the detriment of the experience is just made events like clearing the table between courses confusing and incomplete. Half of the table would get reset and the other wouldn't. We still had side plates and some dinner plates on the table while dessert was happening.... A little Polish here and 5 stars it is

The menu descriptions at breakfast, lunch & dinner did not match what was actually served. The eggs & beach herbs were listed as served with asparagus; however they arrived on top of green beans and there was not a single herb on the plate. The coffee was very weak. The spinach salad at lunch arrived with a mesclun mix and no spinach, the cheese & nuts were also missing. It was instead served with pickled blueberries which were a definite waste of a blueberry. The scallop chowder at dinner was supposed to come with favas which is why I ordered it, but instead...green beans. Everything was underseasoned and bland. We had to ask for salt & pepper for every meal to be able to eat the food. Herbs were nowhere to be found. Disappointing.

We stayed at the inn for a long weekend and had all of our meals there. The food was very good but the portion sizes were small!! Do not order the lobster, you do not get what you pay for. The portion was so small with no sides included. I went to bed starving that night!! Nostalgia night was the best - reasonable prices and a great food. If your staying at the inn, you might want to order more than 1 breakfast item as their sizes are small, too, but very delicious and included in the price of your room charge. The Inn itself is just beautiful!! Very welcoming and very relaxing. The staff can't do enough for you and the setting is just spectacular!!

Arrived by boat - launch service was prompt and friendly. Seated on the porch for drinks, but a server never arrived to take our order. After 15 minutes, get up and find server who took our drink order. Hostess came to lead us to our table. We told her we had ordered drinks but they had not come yet. She said she would take care of bringing drinks to table. New server arrives at our table and asks if we'd like something to drink! We tell him the story. Brings drinks several minutes later , two of them incorrect, returns to fix new drinks. Meals were disappointing - pork chop a little dry, fish portion quite small and also very dry. Steaks seemed okay. Not many vegetables with the meat dishes - about 6 beans.

We dined on the screen porch, overlooking Casco Bay. Very nice. Take your sun glasses if you're there for sunset. Initial drink service was slow, but pours were generous. I didn't particularly like the variety of oysters served on the half shell, but that's my fault: it's a variety I'd never had before. They were very good looking, but they tasted 'flat'. I had a vegetarian entree (ratatouille) which, as a meat eater, I thought was quite good. My companions enjoyed their meals as well. Not cheap eats, but what you have to expect at a remote location on prime island real estate. If you come in your own boat, call ahead for a mooring assignment and take your cell phone to call for launch service (for which there is no extra charge).

I wish I could give a good review. We have been dining weekly at the Inn for 4 years as Chebeague summer residents. This year the kitchen is incredibly slow. Portions are small and the menu is contrived. The Scallop crudo was ONE scallop sliced thin with radish slices for $17. With the exception of a few servers, the staff lacks training. Table service is sloppy and management is invisible. Go for cocktails and a burger if you want to enjoy the fabulous porch and view. I would recommend the Sunday night "nostalgia menu" but the last ferry leaves the island early so you better get there early. I can't say that I have had a horrible meal but the poor service,$$$$$, and slow kitchen really take away from the experience.

What a special place to go for a meal. We introduced friends to Maine by taking the ferry from Cousins Island, walking around the island and cocktails on the wide veranda of this beautiful old inn. They had traditional lobster dinner, and we had fish dishes that were elegant. The staff was a delight, and the sunset was unbeatable. After coffee back out on the veranda, we strolled down to the dock for the trip back to Portland. More than just a meal, it is a total experience in itself. Highly recommend.

We came by boat for Fathers Day. The man that came out by launch to bring us in was wonderful and made us feel as if it was going to be a great evening. Then it went down hill fast. Once we were seating there was confusion over who was serving us. Finally a woman came to the table to greet us and left without taking a drink order. 15 minutes later she came back and took the drink order. 20 minutes later the drinks were delivered painfully slow one at a time. Two of our guests had food allergies that were brought to their attention. 30 minutes later our salads arrived but with the allergen on them. As we were waiting for our meals, three tables of regulars that arrived after us were served before we even ordered. Will not return.

We went for a Father's Day brunch. Everything from the staff to the lawn games was fabulous. For brunch though, I was shocked with the small portion sizes! While my eggs with herbs were delicious, I would expect them to come with toast at least. We had to pay extra for sides of toast and bacon and we all left still quite hungry despite a hefty tab. We will definitely come back and give it another try, but probably not for a brunch.

Elegant food & presentation, small portions, no salt/pepper on the table. We would have liked it to be a bit better for the price. We are local people and decided you are paying for the experience of being there. So be prepared for the cost of the boat over and back ($15/pp) and a hefty bill. The views on the porch and screened porch are terrific. We watched the sky turn red as the sun set. Friends of ours went and had some food not well prepared. we would return for drinks and apps on the porch!

Food and view were great. Charming well appointed inn. The serving staff need more experience and rely on a quick "no" before actually trying to find a solution. I suspect these are young staff from Europe and they will get better as the year goes on. They were out of some staples (cranberry juice) but that is Island living. no problem and would recommend.

I have been going to the Chebeague Inn for many years. Such a beautiful place that always seemed to serve the worst food. Not anymore. We had a very tasty brunch. Limited menu and a bit pricey but remember your on an island. I was confused why with only 3 tables being used that we got sandwiched between 2 tables with crying and screaming infants. Huge porch for dining we could have been spread out a bit. We asked if we could move and the staff seemed very confused by the request. We finally moved indoors leaving 10 empty tables on the porch. Will be better when the staff matches the view and the great food.

We had a great evening at Chebeague Inn. Off season and midweek it was quiet, with just a few other parties in the restaurant. The experience started w a short ferry ride to the island, then drinks and appetizers on the porch prior to dinner. The food is very good, with lots of fresh fish and fun updates to traditional fare like fish chowder. Service was friendly, efficient and made you feel welcome. We would definitely recommend this place to family and friends--already have.

Staff could not answer general questions regarding mooring at their facility. Fee charged for mooring considering the prices for dinner it should have been free. Food tasted good but was servers Luke warm as waitress had disappeared. Would have order another bottle of wine but we were never asked if we wanted one. Surf n turf was ordered by member of the party and the skirt steak was burned and cold. However the young lady who was bus staff had a very pleasant demeanor and very good at her job.

My wife had 1/2 a doz oysters and the crab risotto and a lemon something for dessert. She was pleased with all of her choices. I had the lobster bisque and the Cheburger and a flourless chocolate cake. I specifically requested that the burger be cooked medium rare to rare as I hate overcooked burgers. The burger was well done and almost finished before we were asked how our meal was. I was offered another burger but I always hate sitting there waiting for my meal while my wife is eating. It was avery long wait for our desserts to arrive to the point where my wife actually went looking for the waitress to cancel our order. I will give them another try!

Chebeague Inn is an astonishingly good restaurant, given its relatively remote location and the challenges of getting excellent food and service out to the islands of Casco Bay. It is well worth the trip. Our group of five had appetizers and drinks on the porch in the sunset -- particularly of note is the lobster corn dog. You have to taste it to believe it. At the dinner table, the mix of local seafood and fine meats well pleased all of the group, with lobster bruschetta and haddock chowder (really a stew) as favorites. And the five of us ended up with six deserts to go with espresso, because we really never wanted to leave.

CBI is a popular restaurant because the view is outstanding and unique. We will be back again for that reason alone. The service is poor (painfully slow, inefficient, and uninformed). The wait staff are generally nice HS kids there for the summer. I don't hold their lack of ability against them as much as against management, which apparently does no significant training (Perhaps none at all?) on how to be a waiter. The food is a mixed bag. There are some very tasty items on the menu, but you have to know what to get. The Caesar dressing tastes primarily like mayonnaise. The tomato bisque was delicious. The mussels were good. The "baguette" was three slices of semi-burnt toast. Enjoy the view and a book in the Adirondack chairs after lunch!

while the view is very nice, it is diminished by the nuclear plant across the bay. the inn's main room brings back memories of camp, with a well finished, upscale lodge-type interior. the oyster po' boy had 3 overly breaded, overly fried oysters on a roll, and the smoked salmon salad was very salty, the pickled ramps: much too vinegary, and a lack of flavor from the dressing, if there was one! service was ok, but I had to hunt down someone to turn down the music (?) on the porch as we could not hear each other. hop on the ferry, but keep on going!

Don't let the summer slip away with out a trip to the Chebeague Island Inn. You will be rewarded with a large beautiful porch arranged with plush chairs facing sweeping views of the Bay, an outstanding, quietly attentive, very friendly, smiling staff ready to make your visit memorable in every way. We gathered our visiting guests from Northern California wine country and made our way to the Inn for a truly fabulous evening of great wine, the food was excellent, creative and perfectly prepared ! No detail was overlooked, each course was beautifully presented and not contrived or pretentious but elegant and worthy of any special celebration. We will be recommending this gem to all! Best. Waited more than 45 minutes past our reservation time. I read in a previous post that inn guests are given priority over day trippers which may be what happened - but even over Open Table reservations? And waited at least ten minutes after the hostess said "the table is clear - it's just not set"; I don't want to hear that! I'll set it myself! The setting is beautiful and as a destination day trip, it's lovely, but don't make being on time for a meal your plan (we missed the ferry and had to wait for the next one).

Overall we had a lovely time. The host was very accommodating and the food good. My friend and I both ordered the whole sea bass, which was excellent, but his came undercooked and had to be sent back to the kitchen, which was awkward as we waited for his fish to return to the table before eating, though overall the food was very good. Was not as impressed with the food as we were when a group of us had dinner at the Inn last year. The flounder and burger were in the "good" category. Risotto was flat and flavorless...mussels as well had no outstanding intensity in flavor....although our server was personable and pleasant, service was slow... and two members of our party had to leave before the birthday dessert celebration, which arrived without the candle that had been requested in advance. Members of our party had travelled from Connecticut and Massachusetts to join us. We were looking forward to an outstanding evening. Disappointing.

Extremely pleasant, excellent views, and attentive staff. The Chebeague Island Inn did not try to be anything other than it is; the food was good, the staff thoughtful, and the warmth was not forced. This is an Island Inn with the ambiance that goes with Maine, yet without the attempt to try to "make it Maine", rather to let it be just what it is. Absolutely a place we will visit again and again.

We took the ferry from Cousins to Chebeague for Sunday Brunch. The food was simple but very flavorful and perfect sized portions (not too large). Bloody Mary's were a spicy hit! Service was prompt and very friendly. The setting was beautiful. One hint...we had brunch at 10:45 and finished at such a time that we missed the ferry going back to Cousins prior to their lunch break, so we sat on the Inn porch for a while til the next ferry ride back. The food was fantastic, but the service left something to be desired. While all the staff, including our waitress, were extremely pleasant and delightful, their attention to detail was lacking. I finished my lemonade with my appetizer and was never asked for a refill. I only saw the server once after that to even ask myself, and I still didn't get a refill. We ordered lamb, but never received a knife to cut it. Again, we only saw the server once after that to even ask, and by that time had finished the lamb using a butter knife. There had been a complaint from a large party that appeared to frazzle the staff. This seemed to effect the rest of the tables' service. Also, there were lots of busboys, but only one waitress.

Seven of us went for a day trip to Chebeague - explore for some; golf for others. Not easy to get to the Inn. Two ferry services, but you need plenty of time for the excursion. Venue is outstanding. Our dinners (the food we could order) were great. We were not allowed to order from bar menu in the dining room which prevented us from trying the fried oysters. That was a disappointment. Young staff members are not well trained in customer service or the facts of the Inn. Having said that, if you have plenty of time (for boat schedules) and want to visit a beautiful Maine island and have a relaxing, delicious dinner, it's GREAT! Inn residents get priority seats over day trippers.

Chebeague Island Inn is a beautiful and special location. My husband and I were married there 17 years ago so it's very special to us. The staff was very friendly and a little overwhelmed as they tend to have everyone show up at the same time because they all come off the ferry at the same time. We arrived by boat and were seated before everyone else arrived. The food was good and the views are spectacular from the outdoor porch. I would highly recommend taking the time and going out to the inn for brunch, lunch or dinner.
