Diner Reviews
  • "When we arrived we were greeted & immediately taken to a window view table which we had requested. Our server introduced himself ( Rosario) & felt like an immediate friend. He made the evening very enjoyable & evenmore special for us."

  • "We've eaten at Chaz before, mostly for breakfast though when staying at the hotel. This time we ate dinner and it was really wonderful. Our waiter, Cecil, was funny and excellent. He made great recommendations and made dinner not only about the food but about the experience. I had the Aged Prime Beef Tenderloin with Potato Croquette and it was wonderful, tender and flavorful. My husband had the Prime Strip Steak and enjoyed it immensely."

  • "I love dining at Chaz. The ambience is wonderful and the food and staff are fabulous. Adventure to the other side of Brush Creek and enjoy! You won't regret it. If you have a special anniversary, I recommend dinner at Chaz and a night at the Raphael."

  • "This was my first time dinning at Chaz. I appreciate memorable food, service and ambiance, which Chaz delivered. I live in Washington, DC., which boasts a well established restaurant scene. Chaz can stand up to many of these DC restaurants. Great ambiance in the bar and the restaurant. Great live music. The service was exceptional. Joshua was our server and I would ask for him. The food was presented in a pleasing manner. I shared an excellent grilled caesar salad, which the kitchen split for us. The escargot appetizer was very tasty. The lamb rack and scallops were excellent. The scallops could have been caramelized a bit more and slightly undercooked. Overall, I would recommend Chaz for an enjoyable and relaxing dinning experience."

  • "The sour cream fried chicken is moist, tender and has a good crunch. The fingerling potatoes are good. A vegetable different than the green beans would be a nice change."

  • "We have been dining at Chaz for years, and it is always a good experience. The wait staff is always pleasant and helpful, adn does not hover and annoy. The menu changes periodically, but everything is always well prepared and delicious. And the bar is great for after dinner music and drinks. We are regulars, and will keep coming back."

  • "Tried the Jazz Brunch - food was delicious, music wonderful....loved the whole setting and experience. Our wait person was very efficient and personable. Have been to Chaz often, never the brunch - but will be back! Thanks."

  • "We ordered the 5 course Prix Fixe menu paired with cocktails. Our waiter was outstanding and the other staff was fabulous as well. Our food was coming out cold, once we mentioned it, our remaining courses were warmish. There were no condolences though. The cocktails didn't pair well with the dishes and lacked imagination (almost all had lime in them). We normally love you but you missed the mark this time Chaz."

  • "We have breakfast there Saturday mornings. Great food, outstanding service."

  • "Intimate and cozy, this laid back venue includes name talent and better than average cuisine. One can interact with famous musicians while enjoying five courses and excellent libations, or retreat to an enclosed booth for privacy and focus. Play it again, Max. You are a local gift from the muse of KC jazz."

  • "Server did excellent job keeping us happy. She crab soup and Chaz salad were delicious. Scallops and risotto was perfect. Beef tenderloin was very good. Great evening Table in a not so great spot so not a perfect evening. Will request another location next time."

  • "First time at Chaz on the Plaza. Food was incredible. While the service was good, all the servers just seemed frantic which kind of led to a nervous energy in the dining room. All in all it was a pleasant brunch. All of the servers refilled drinks no matter which table they had and even other staff was bringing out food when it was ready. Would definitely give it another try."

  • "Food and service were both excellent. We will definitely be back! Would highly recommend!"

  • "This was our 10th time at Chaz for all levels. We especially look forward to the filets. The shrimp/grits appetizer is a real treat. The chared romaine salad is fantastic. Hard to find a better place when at the Plaza"

  • "While there are wonderful dining options outside of The Raphael in Kansas City, Chaz on the Plaza is a great option for dinner. The restaurant has a good wine list with a notable reserve list (think Dominus and Cain). The food is nice (our table of four had she crab soup, grilled Caesar, fish, buttermilk fried chicken, and beef carpaccio, all excellent. Live music in the bar gives a nice vibe. Definitely worth a stop and in the best hotel in KC!"

  • "I can't say enough about how good the service is at Chaz on the Plaza. They treat you like you are their only patron. The food was amazing! We will definitely be back!"

  • "The food at Chas was excellent. The filet was as good as any place in town.. The tables are spread out compared with other restaurants and the dining room is divided into smaller sections. This provides a relaxing dining atmosphere."

  • "I feel like I have 'come home' when I drive up to the Raphael Hotel; everyone is so great and seems to be truly glad to see me. This restaurant makes me feel special like no other restaurant! And on top of that the chef is fantastic!"

  • "Even though I live in the Plaza area , I had never been to Chaz on the Plaza....a friend had received a birthday coupon and an extra invitation to share with a friend , so we decided to have a Sunday supper....thinking it was kind of fancy, I was pleasantly surprised to find a cozy atmosphere .....the food was delis, our waiter , Justin, was exceptionally attentive and well informed about the dishes, and the live piano, bass music in the background was an unexpected treat.. We;ll be back."

  • "Great restaurant, great food and great service. The band in the bar area is really top notch. I thought it would be a fairly dressy place but it is not formal. I guess you would call it upscale casual, so a jacket and jeans or a sweater was fine. I would go back again and look forward to trying their happy hour"

  • "we dine here often as it is great place to view the Plaza and have have fine dining, just be aware that you don't want to be seated my the entertainment as it can be a little loud, we are never disappointed the filet is wonderful and my wife had the sea bass also the chocolate torte is very good and if you want a more private table there are booths away from the street view of the Plaza and the entertainment and bar"

  • "We enjoyed every aspect of dinner. Wonderful culinary experience."

  • "We started with the fried green tomatoes - absolutely the best in KC. I had the Chaz salad and my husband the she-crab soup. So far our typical order at Chaz (get it every time because it's awesome). We deviated from tradition for our main course. I chose the tenderloin - ordered medium, arrived medium-well (and more well done on the edges). Not an issue, I can handle it, but it was a disappointment to the meal. The other negative was the brie-stuffed potato croquet. Typically delicious, this one lacked flavor and brie. However, my husband had the sea bass and loved every bite. So, it looked to be fairly hit-or-miss for this visit. We'll return as we do love the restaurant. Two for Tuesdays is the best deal in town!"

  • "I chose to eat at the Chaz because it was very intimate and specific to the person I was taking to dinner. It did not disappoint as the food was the best I've ever tasted! The service was great and everything was perfect."

  • "I love my boyfriend but the thing that made our night together that much better was a chance to treat ourselves to chaz! Although it is waaaaay expensive, I wouldve done it again because the food was delicious."

  • "Went to Chaz for Valentine's Day after it popped up on here as the romantic spot for KC. It definitely was. Live music, dim lighting, great ambiance, and delicious food; it was everything we could have wanted. We ordered the crab cakes (wish there were two served instead of one - but amazing nonetheless), sour cream chicken (my wife loved it), strip steak - medium (very tasty), truffle mac and cheese (our favorite), and lobster tail (delicious). Will defenitely be on our list to visit again!"
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "We went the day after Valentine's Day to avoid large noisy crowd in the restaurant. We and the people seated next to us had card tables instead of "dining" tables. My chair was rickety. We've been to Chaz many times and although the food & service were as good as usual, the card table killed the experience. We had an early evening reservation with plenty of better tables and better locations available so were disappointed in our seating."

  • "A great way to celebrate Valentine's Day, enroute to a concert. The chef and service were absolutely wonderful. The chef is from Savannah; his delicious fried green tomatoes and she-crab soup would make any Southern chef proud. We've been to Chaz often but this meal was by far the best. Both of us had the veal oscar. The large veal medallions were perfectly prepared medium. The crab chunks were impressive and very tasty. Asparagus can be tough but these spears were just right, as were the fingerling potatoes and the bernaise sauce. We had a difficult time deciding which entree to choose--they all looked so good. Looking forward to returning often."

  • "I expected much more. The food was good but not special. We can get average food for a lot less cost or for the cost of an evening here go to other places in town that deliver exceptional food."

  • "Great experience with wonderful food and service. A place everyone must experience in Kansas City."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "We experienced an excellent meal with adaptations of side dishes to suit our preferences. The menu itself was varied enough to suit most diners and the additional flexibility in sides (upon request) made it feel like they were willing to adapt. Service was for the most part excellent although the rather awkward timings of the busboy and server seemed awkward and unnecessary. Taking away plates/glasses/etc. from small tables is wonderful but there seemed no coordination in timing or what was left and what was taken. Perhaps it was a new busboy. But weren't unduly interrupted by this and enjoyed our meal."

  • "My husband and I celebrated my birthday at Chaz this week and were once again impressed by the delicious food, the outstanding service, and the wonderful live music. Chaz continues to be our favorite KC restaurant!"

  • "Had the sour cream fried chicken and I think it was absolutely the best fried chicken I ever had. Crust was crunchy and chicken was moist and tender and very tasty. Fingerling potatoes were in a butter lemon sauce. I would have preferred another green rather than the French green beans. Definitely will return."
