  • Outdoor dining by the Flatirons
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 9/23/2012
Our family had been talking about having brunch on the veranda at Chautaqua for years and each passing year we never seemed to squeeze it in. This year we finally went on a beautiful Colorado fall Sunday morning. While the food is typical breakfast fare, and the dining very casual, the great view of the Flatirons and outdoor setting are fabulous. The staff is attentive and cheerful and kept the fresh coffee coming. And after brunch you can enjoy a lovely hike and work off all the carbs! Great family outing or an option for out of town guests who need a nice meal with a bit of the Colorado mountain air.

Ambiance outside can't be beat - sitting in Chautauqua is great! But, the food does leave something to be desired. It is not bad, but not great either. Buffet is kept hot, but things still tend to get a bit old and hard. There is somewhat of a limited selection as well. Made to order omelets were good though. I will certainly go back because of the location, but I wish the food was more exciting.

Service was slow. A lightbulb was flickering throughout the service and was not fixed when attention was drawn to it. The food was mediocre. Meat was not cooked to specification. Ambiance was unpleasant because of a very loud wedding whose guests kept spilling out into the terrace. They should warn patrons or not have other patrons when they host a major event.

While we had a reservation, we were kept waiting for almost 45 minutes. Not good! We have dined here before and had a pleasant experience, this was the first time we had come for Sunday brunch. The food was mediocre at the absolute best. While the restaurant was busy it was not jammed. The refilling of chaffing dishes was very slow and there was nothing interesting, unusual or inviting with the food. We will not be back for brunch nor can we positively recommend the brunch to anyone. Very disappointing!

We waited at the host stand for about 5 minutes before we were acknowledged. Once we were seated, we again waited several minutes before we were given water. We then had to ask the person who gave us water who our waiter was. We were never asked if we needed anything, my husband and I just had to be on the lookout for our waiter. I was a waitress and can be forgiving knowing that a waiter is slammed, but he wasn't and our service was very poor.

  • We hiked from NCAR to Chautauqua
    OpenTable Diner Since 2006
    Dined on 9/8/2012
We hiked from NCAR to Chautauqua then ate in the dining hall. We had a large group of 12, so they sat us at two tables, which we configured into one table. There was a wedding inside the hall, so maybe that's why the service was incredibly slow and the food was only ok. Because it was cold outside, the food got cold very quickly. The diners on the regular porch had lovely heaters, but we were on the east side porch and it was chilly with no heaters. The wedding guests were smoking out back, and the smoke crept around our side. Add this to a very pricey meal and all in all we didn't have a great experience! Breakfast is great at Chautauqua, but dinner is over priced and mediocre. Our next group hike will definitely be in the morning

Always great to be served in this iconic location. Before a concert or event at Chatauqua it is always fun to be on the deck prior to being entertained. The food and service is not as exceptional as it once was, but the location and scenery is what this restaurant is all about.

We went there for our 37th anniversary dinner. I had flowers delivered but when we were seated they were not there. I mentioned this to the hostess and in a few minutes the manager brought them out. Seeing where we were seated she immediately said "I need to move you to a better table" , which she did - making our special evening even more enjoyable. They were very busy, but she insisted we have an outside table for 4 to enjoy the ambiance. The food? As usual it was very good and very reasonably priced. This is a spot we take out-of-town visitors in the summer months.

The reason to go to the Chautauqua Dining Hall is for the ambiance. During the warm months, dining is on the wrap-around porch overlooking the Chautauqua grounds. We had a late lunch on a gorgeous Colorado Saturday afternoon in August. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The food came quickly, although the dessert for some reason took a very long time to arrive. The food is good, but not outstanding. We were in no hurry and lingered over our wine. A very nice afternoon.

Chautauqua is a family favorite and the food is always good. If you can sit out on the porch during nice weather, it's lovely. Unfortunately, we've made reservations twice now through OpenTable that supposedly didn't exist when we arrived at the restaurant (even when we noted our confirmation number). We aren't sure what the problem is, but while once may be a fluke, twice means that there is a breakdown between this restaurant and OpenTable. We suggest you call this restaurant and confirm 24 hours in advance.

Our table was nice, on the patio. The waiter was great, but the wait for our food was alot longer than it should have been. The trout was amazing, but both burgers that were ordered med rare were very medium, so doubt if I would order a burger there, unless you like more well done meat. The buns were great tho. Great if no time restraints.

Wonderful scenery and ambience. Service was indifferent (they had a wedding going on). Not impressed at all with the food. The dinner rolls were rock hard, should not have been served at all. Waiter gave excuse of "oh we didn't get our shipment in"..no apologies. Main course was very good, fish tacos. Blueberry pie was complete mush, probably previously frozen? Could hardly distinguish any actual berries. Overall, a bit disappointed, but worth it for the historic building and grounds.

We enjoyed the meal. The noise from the patrons beside us were overwhelming though and that was hard because we could hardly talk at our table. Maybe make a note to folks that there are others around and try to keep the conversations at their table only. I almost told the waitress but she had enough to deal with. We were disappointed though that the free shuttle did not arrive at the RTD stop on Broadway at 5:30. We waited until almost 5:45 and then had to drive up in order to make our reservation at the dining hall.

Chautauqua is a great venue, and overall, a descent restaurant. I notice a concerted effort to provide good service on the part of the wait staff. The menu is somewhat limited. I found the salad I ordered to be excellent, but the others in my party found their dishes just average.
