Diner Reviews
  • "I have nothing but positive reviews to say. The staff is always pleasant and the food is always excellent. I enjoy dining here with my family and friends and having my parties here."

  • "It is a restaurant with Bar area. Therefore, it is not supposed to be quiet. Pros: The food is super fast. Food was good, specially the soup of the day is perfect. Only $6 and lots of lobster in it! Cons: Service was not the best, or even a little bit lower than average. Looks like the waiter was not very fluent in English as well."

  • "Chateau of Spain is super convenient for pre dining prior to prudential center event. Dined at upper level. The food is par; Had Shrimp in Garlic Sauce (looked like frozen shrimp which was over cooked!) without much flavor but Mariscada was fine. If you are looking for authentic Spanish cuisine, in my opinion this is not the place (On the menu: Alfredo, buffalo wings, Enchiladas, Quesadilla, etc.)."

  • "Noisy downstairs but upstairs is more classy and quieter so depending on what you want for a setting, casual downstairs or tablecloth and settings upstairs, take your pick, but the food is always good."

  • "Great place to eat. The service is outstanding and staff is welcoming. Both times I was here, I was pleased."

  • "I came from out of town and took my mother to dinner. We were turned off at the door! The host, pointed to a table "go sit there" I was lost at that point! The tables were extremely small and too small for a family of four, the portion size was great, but the food lacked savor. Totally disappointed!!"

  • "The food was excellent but the ambience was lacking and parking was a problem."

  • "I would recommend for all occasions, food was out of this world"

  • "Chateau of Spain was a great location for my Uncle 90ths birthday dinner. Food and setting was great. There were 4 birthday celebrations that night, all in the same room and everyone had a Ball. Its was like one big celebration. Service is always good anytime you go there. Upstairs if you want a special setting and downstairs if you want casual. You choose, can't go wrong. Food was more than enough and delicious. "

  • "I really enjoyed the dinner at Chateau of Spain. It was my first time there and I wasn't sure if I would like it or not. I had read the reviews on Open Table and they did not steer me wrong, which I truly appreciate. The food was very good and the ambiance was very pleasant. I would definitely return there."

The waiters were very polite and very attentive. The price on the menu were good the portions were pretty big we had to take some home we give this place 5 ***** 's .... you will not be disappointed."

  • "Took my staff here. Great food, moderate pricing and plenty to eat."

  • "This is a great local spot right near the PruCenter with a wide menu and some tasty food. I chose more of the Spanish Portuguese dishes but they have something for everyone here. The portions are large so you can share with others. The house wine at $ 20 a bottle is a steal and the servers are very friendly. There were a lot of local when we were there so that shows this is a good place to eat. I would return again if I was in the area."
    Dined on 11/27/2013
  • "Very accommodating staff. Excellent food and wine list. Upstairs dining is intimate and romantic."

  • "In Newark for a few days for my boyfriends birthday....took him here for his birthday dinner...excellent choice! Food was very delicious and I must say, prices are very reasonable!!! If we're ever in the area again, we're sure to come back!"
    Dined on 11/15/2013
  • "Every dish was cooked to order. No chewy mussels because they were reheated. Good food, goodservice. Obviously a neighborhood favorite."
    Dined on 10/13/2013
  • "I enjoy going here as the service is usually very good. They had to get the manager to use my Open Table gift check."
    Dined on 9/29/2013
  • "We chose this because of location. The downstairs bar area looks like something out of a bad movie ! Blue sangria ? Fried chicken? Very strange ! Then they took us upstairs which was much nicerbut th efood was outright terrible. The seafood all tasted frozen and rubbery. The chorizo was cooked with pickled vegetable salad. Wine list awful. I would never return, I rather eat a hot dog at the Prucenter snack stand !"

  • "anytime going to the prudential center, & would like a good meal,or drink its the place. literally a 2 minute walk. Food & service very good."
    Dined on 9/21/2013
  • "When we first arrived we were told to sit anywhere we wanted we sat down and did not hear from a waiter for 20 minutes. We didn't get our drinks until we were 25minutes into our meal. We thought we were getting Spanish food this was like ordering at a diner except not as good. On the menu they had veal parmigiana, wraps and burgers. We would have left but had a limited amount of time before our concert. The bar looked busy and the Caesar salad was ok."
    Dined on 7/1/2013
  • "Be aware that the portions are absolutely huge, I couldn't even get through a quarter of my dinner. However, everything was delicious and our entire table enjoyed the meal including the yummy Sangria. My only negative was that is was so noisy in the restaurant we had to yell to talk to each other."
    Dined on 6/22/2013
  • "We were attending a performance at the Prudential Center and we were running late. We informed the waiter that we were attending the show and he made our dining experience a memorable one. He assured us we would be done in time to get to the show on time and he succeeded in serving our meal in plenty of time. The food was outstanding and the service was top notch. We will definately be back when in the area."

  • "We were in Newark for another reason and had dinner before hand. The food was good. Actually the octopus app. was really good."
    Dined on 6/12/2013
  • "The picture shown on their web site is of their private party room on the second floor and is far superior to the dark and dingy bar room restaurant facility located on the first floor where the general public eats. The food quality was poor and mostly fried. A local hang out with lots of noise. The portion sizes were generous."
    Dined on 4/19/2013
  • "awsome experience...loved everything about the place"
    Dined on 4/8/2013
  • "good food not overly complicated great values on the menu to be found all together great escape for 2 hours while waiting for kids"
    Dined on 3/29/2013
  • "Food was delicious had the stuffed sole special - probably the best I've ever eaten. Restaurant itself is nothing to talk about very dark, noisy and service could be better. Over sized TV's are on the walls giving it like a sports bar feel. If your looking for good food and don't care about the atmosphere this is a great place."
    Dined on 3/28/2013
  • "Two other couples and my husband and I went...and had a thoroughly delightful and relaxed evening. The food was delicious, the service was fabulous and we all enjoyed our evening. I would definitely recommend it. It was obvious it was a neighborhood restaurant and that was really nice to see."
    Dined on 3/9/2013
  • "Been here many times. The food is always great but sometimes the service is a little slow when not crowded. The upstairs is great for a more quiet and romantic scene. The waiters are always polite but they need to let customers know when food is taking a while and always inquire after if everything is okay. Appollo is the best. I have yet to have a bad dish, no matter what I ordered."

  • "They took reservations and the were close to the Prudential center. Good Portions and the food was OK. Would not make a special trip to go there"
    Dined on 2/16/2013
  • "We went for the first time after a special event at the Prudential Center and the night didn't start out well. We arrived early for our reservation and found out our table was not ready and would not be ready for more than an hour (the time of our origional reservation) However, we discovered that if we were to walk-in with no reservation, they had tables available! We immediatly cancelled our reservation and were seated. Menu's came late, drinks later and the wait staff had an amazing ability to walk by our table without catching the eye of anyone seated there. When the food came is was good, and the portions were generous. But when we were looking for the check I again had to get up and chase someone down."

  • "We visited Chateau of Spain before an event at the Prudential Center. It's about 3 blocks away and a nice walk after dinner. It has an excellent menu with a great selection and some interesting Spanish twists on other ethnic dishes. Great Sangria by the pitcher and reasonably priced. Will definitely go back. I'd say reservations are recommended if you're going on an event night at the Rock."
