  • "The escargots was fantastic, my wife's duck was even better. I sent back my steak, it was over seasoned and overcooked. The waiter was mediocre, my wife and I sat with empty water glasses for 15-20 minutes. After sending the steak back, the staff as extremely apologetic. I was offered another steak and then free dessert (both of which we declined)."

  • "However, the front of the house is weak and seems to get worse rather than better."

  • "This was an anniversary dinner for my wife and I, and we really enjoyed it! We went on a Friday evening and didn't have to wait at all for a table for 2. The dress was nice casual and the waiter staff was very friendly. The food was excellent. I ate a cedar-planked salmon, which was served over asparagus and tomatoes, with lemon squeezed over the top. No complaints! And my wife had a duck dish, with a nice combination of veggies - definitely recommended! The price here was a little on the higher end (comparable to Ruth's Chris). We plan to eat here again!"

  • "This restaurant used to be closer to my home and I was a regular customer. They moved to a better location (for them) in a more upscale area. The food is always excellent. I've never had a bad meal here and some of the dishes I've had can be found nowhere else in the New Orleans area. The chef is French trained (and he's a French native). His menu has a strong French bias as would be expected but he includes local dishes as well. The wine list is short and heavy on French offerings. But I've not had a bad bottle yet. The prices are high compared to many restaurants in the area but you get what you pay for. I recommend them highly."

  • "Chateau Du Lac Bistro is an exceptional restaurant. Look up the history of the owner / chef. I have new respect for how difficult it is to get to this class and the effort is very impressive. Worth a visit for any reason."

  • "Food was tastey and quantity perfectly sized. Wait staff were attentive from moment we were seated. Some of the tables are a bit too closely placed. "

  • "This restaurant can easily be missed, as it's in a strip mall on Metairie Road. You walk inside and it's charming. There are two rooms. The waitress was very friendly, but there were a couple of salads she forgot to bring. One was served as an entree. The kitchen was quick to fix these, but it was a little annoying the second time. They did offer to take it off of the bill and brought a dessert. The French Onion soup is delicious. The specialty that was ordered was drum, which was cooked perfectly. They offer a nice selection of salads. The pecan pie was wonderful. "

  • "Our Easter Brunch was very enjoyable and a memorable experience. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed the food, though there were some oddities based on our preferences: The muscles were perfect, though the escargot was rather un-flavorful. The steak was perfect, but the fries were overly salted, large wedge french fries rather than pomme frites. Again, these things did not detract from the meal or the experience, they were just observations and constructive criticism. Vive la France"

  • "The food is among the best in the Greater New Orleans area. The French Chef Owner is always present in the kitchen and he insures that nothing but the best will be allowed to leave his kitchen. This is a small well appointed restaurant where the Chef and his wait staff guarantee that the meal and service is well attend to and properly served. The wine list is limited because of storage space but there are enough selections for dinners to find a nice wine to enjoy with their meals. We travel extensively and this a truly a gem when you are visiting New Orleans. It is about 20 minutes from Downtown hotels but well worth the trip. "

  • "The specials were very good and our waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful. Food was cooked as asked for i.e. medium rare, medium, etc. The spinach was overdone and raggedy."

  • "Everything was well prepared and service was very good too. Excellent place for a romantic evening. Not too expensive and worth the price. Not much of a wine selection however."

  • "There is always something new on the menu/daily specials. Salads are fresh and are a real treat. Having experienced quite a few of their menu items, seldom was any of them 'not quite'. Desserts are ALWAYS to be checked out; you'll never be disappointed."

  • "Food was good, but service was very slow. Waiters were stretched too thin. They were working so hard, they were sweating. Filet as peppery and good. Trout (fish of the day) was bland, despite having a sauce. Warm goat cheese salad was delicious. Apple Tartonoine dessert was awesome. Drinks overpriced like everywhere in NOLA"

  • "Chateau Du Lac is an excellent classic French Bistro in Metarie. It is as good or better than any of the famous French Quarter restaurants. You do not have to fight the crowds or traffic downtown. The foie gras is excellent. The duck, steaks, and sauces are excellent. Many fish dishes as well, and dessert if you have room. Good selection of French and California wines."

  • "I'm glad I found Chateau du Lac! Server Whitney was beautiful and vibrant! Ambience was like being in the countryside of France, enjoying a night with friends and family! The place was infectious! The wine was perfect and the food was magnificently prepared! I can't wait for my next trip to New Orleans when I will have Chateau du Lac's magician in the kitchen prepare me something that I know I will never forget!!!"

  • "Incredibly OK. Food was tasty and well presented, but it didn't feel exciting, new or original. It is a good (and I imagine reliably consistent) neighborhood restaurant, but nothing worth going out of your way for."

  • "My wife and I dined here on Feb. 28, 2014, and had a wonderful meal. New Orleans is known for its great cuisine, and now, Metairie can boast of its own gem. The scallops with chanterelle mushrooms were delicious as was the filet mignon. One feels as though a nice little Parisian bistro has taken exile in Metairie."

  • "Met with old friends. Great Ambience and we were able to visit even though the place was full. There was 8 in our party and everyone was pleased with the food and wine selection. My salmon was cooked to perfection, the steak was wonderful and everyone raved about the "French "Fries. Will definitely be back."

  • "Slowly becoming the favorite for NOLA area diners looking for consistenly high quality presentations across the menu for al palettes, much the same as Clancy's mastered years ago. Ditto the wine list although less impressive."

  • "My guest and I arrived a bit early, but the hostess was very accommodating and found us a table. The restaurant was full. The waitress was also wonderful and service was very professional. Always attentive and responsive, but never overwhelming. I will go back to Chateau du Lac each time I visit New Orleans."

  • "The menu is somewhat limited, but every dish is prepared with attention to detail, taste and balance. There are unique soups and appetizers that are very tasty and satisfying--my favorite is butternut squash soup. For a main course, fillet with butter truffle sauce is outstanding--cooked to perfection and melts in your mouth. Salads are fresh, garnished well and not too filling. There are few excellent desserts, but my favorite is the floating island---large "grapefruit sized" pouched egg white served "floating" in liquid custard, which is simply magnificent; or, said another way, it is "a platonic experience". The service is courteous and quick, adding to a friendly ambience. Prices are quite reasonable for the overall quality provided."

  • "Love the location at the West end of old Metairie. An easy hop from downtown Metairie, parking at hand, and away from the madding crowd. A classic New Orleans neighborhood restaurant. Food and service excellent."

  • "Valentine's Day menu was a real treat. We enjoyed the redfish and the duck very much. The escargo was earthy and woodsy, not sure if that was our favorite, but it was very interesting. Service was outstanding, as usual. And the apple tart is a wonderful treat, large enough to share and light and delicious."

  • "Overall really good resteraunt. The only problem is you might be sat at a two person table, with another two person table directly on the side, with someone having to sit on a bench style seat, shared by others. Thus, reducing the romantic privacy one may want."

  • "traditional French dishes using fresh local ingredients.....my husband had Cocc A Vin that was as good and flavorful as any we had in the small villages of France.......my fresh fish of the day was a beautiful piece of redfish, grilled and served with perfectly cooked snap beans, broccoli, squash and carrots with a light buer blanc.....DIVINE! Will move this restaurant up on my list of regular "go to" places to meet friends for dinner!"

  • "My boyfriend and I went here for date night and we are VERY impressed, to say the least. I made reservations for Saturday night and when we arrived, we were greeted within a minute. Once seated, our waitress, Kelley, was very attentive even though she had a full section. To start, we ordered a French 75 and a Sazerac and cheese plate to start. The drinks are amazing and the variety of cheeses we got were delicious. The wine selection is also great! For an entree I ordered the filet. For dessert, we had a traditional French king cake (puff pastry) and coffee. I was unsure how elegant this place was going to be but we dressed up a little and fit in with the Old Metairie crowd, despite my very visible tattoos. We will be back!"

  • "I was pleasantly surprised with the ambience and delectable food of this French restaurant. We enjoyed beet salad, onion tart, scallops, soup, sautéed spinach and wine. There were only two servers on the day we went so they were understaffed but everything else is delightful. Would definitely return for dinner."

  • "What little staff there was worked very hard and was polite but there was no way they could keep up a good service with the number of patrons there. The restaurant was painfully understaffed. The French Onion Soup was the most watery, flavorless we have had. No duck available so ordered the petit filet, The filet ordered medium rare to the rare side was served cooked medium. We ordered a 2008 wine from the wine list. 2011 was brought to the table with no offer to adjust the price accordingly. We waited about 20 minutes after being seated for the cocktails to be served. The appetizers were served about 45 minutes after being ordered. The entrees arrived about 45minutes after finishing the appetizers. We will not return to this restaurant."

  • "Food is excellent but we were disappointed In that they were out of the duck and the mussels reducing the choices in what is a small menu. The fish was wonderful and the short ribs very good but I had been looking forward to the best duck in the City. Service is just right, thoughtful and not intrusive."

  • "I was visiting New Orleans fro a few days. I was told to try the fancy restaurants, it was supposed to be a nice experience. I was late to make reservation, so when I tried all of the restaurants were fully booked. I used the application on my iPhone and found Chateau Du Lac. It was very pleasant surprise. The appetizers, entrees and better yet, desserts. The place is nice, food is very good and price is fair. I totally recommend Chateau Du Lac"
