A word from Chateau Cherbuliez
Chateau Cherbuliez transports guests to an old-world French countryside and home.

Chateau Cherbuliez, named after the owners' grandmother, brings the sophistication and vision of restaurateurs Derek And Daniel Koch of DUAL Groupe to the former Limelight space in Chelsea. Partner Philippe Bondon brings French flair and wine knowledge to compliment the menu by renowned chef Todd English.

The enchanting space consists of a picturesque outdoor vineyard and garden, complete with a biergarten, a rustic, cozy wine bar inside, and a sophisticated fine dining room. Each room has an original fireplace and plush decor, and traditional French chateau pieces with a modern touch.
Chateau Cherbuliez also offers a secret private room for events, client dinners, and fancy banquets.

My sister is the GM of a high end rest on the UES & I've worked in restaurants as well. I can honestly say Chateau had the WORST service I've ever seen. Had a res w/my parents on a Sat night - Waited @ the deserted host stand for 10 mins. The bartender could see us&never acknowleged customers. We hunted down the 1 person "working" who said, "Sit wherever you want" .. seated ourselves inside. 5 mins later a host/waiter(?) came over & asked another table & us, "Who was first?" He plopped down menus, said nothing but "We don't have tuna tartar," & walked off. We walked out 2 minutes later.. trying to be Bagatelle, but they are lazy/rude. Owners were on the patio lounging & riding out their 15 minutes. Never seen such apathetic owners.

if you have hours to kill and aren't hungry or looking for a good drink or good service but want a cool place to sit, go here. Service is terrible, very small food & beer selection (which consists of 6 beers that the waiters don't know off the top of their heads and run out of 2 of them at like 8pm) and the food takes forever to come. also go with exact change, as no one in the place could break a $20.

This establishment needs to decide if it is going to get serious about its food and service. My experience was awkward, bewildering and disappointing. It appeared that others shared the same experience.

  • Best Brunch I've Ever Had!

Literally the best brunch I've ever had. I have probably reviewed about 3 restaurants in my life and this one is the best! It was an amazing experience! The service was amazing, the food was out of this world, and the overall environment was incredible. Not like your typical restaurant that feeds you and wants you out. Very much European, you eat, socialise, and have a stress free experience. I highly recommend everyone to go here. Literally the best restaurant in America I've ever been to.

When this placed first opened last summer, the garden area was a fabulous relaxing place to dine. When I returned recently it was a frenetic, loud scene with a wait staff that would disappear. And when they were present, they seemed clueless. Chateau Cherbuliez also used to have a decent menu. Now it's just bar food and a limited selection. If the goal is to be seen, adequate place for a cocktail. Regrettably, they took one of the great quiet outdoor dining spots in the city and turned it into a high decibel outdoor bar that rattled my teeth.

Chateau Cherbuliez is a fabulous-looking place, with dark paneling and chandeliers. It really looks as though it's in a chateau. The food is very good. There were 3 of us and all thought our entrees were outstanding. The first courses, beverages, and desserts were a little less exciting. The service was very pleasant, but also very amateurish for a place of that kind. The bar is jumping and the music is loud, so it depends on your tolerance for that noice level. The lights in the bar shelves face directly into the dining area. When the bar crowd momentarily moved, those of us facing the bar felt as though we were under bright-light interrogation in a third world country. It would have forced us to leave, but the crowd surged back.

We had 8:15 reso's. When we walked in the door, we were the 3rd and 4th person in the room. The room is beautiful, although the lights in the wine coolers should have some kind of deflector on them as the light was direct, harsh and annoying in a otherwise well done room. Service, on the whole was disappointing. Plates were not removed in a timely manner. My party of three, one a woman, was regularly poured last from the bottle of wine.....our waitress knew the rules of pouring, but the secondary person did not and he filled my glass, then partially filled my partner's, and left our female friend with nothing. Embarrassing. Basically, just poor training on the mgmt's part. The food was ok.

  • Good food, bad wine

Thank god the food far surpassed their wine list. Almost everything on the list was no longer available and we were forced to buy a bottle just to have a decent glass of wine. The waiter kept apologizing, kudos to him. Even the other tables complained of the same dissatisfaction on their wine offerings. For a business that is considered a wine bar, it was rather disappointing to say the least. Their food on the other hand made the experience worth it. Hence if you want a great meal but have low expectations on wines, go here. The ambiance is quite nice and romantic.

  • Is the Limelight location cursed?

We had been looking forward to trying this place as we had very much enjoyed Crossbar (the previous incarnation). Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. It started off wrong as the Prosecco that we ordered was not available. The server recommended the champagne which, of course, was $8 more per glass. The sound system didn't work. We wanted the chopped salad, which the server told us was not available. He recommended that we get the Caesar instead. We asked if we could get the beet salad without the shrimp instead and he said no. Why?? The cocktail that I ordered was far too sweet, so I asked for a Scotch instead. They only had Dewars and Macallan. That's it?! Then, before I had finished my drink, they removed the glass. Won't go back.

Unfortunately the place is weird: I thought I book a restaurant table but I ended up eating on stools:friendly manager but hopeless case... They want to make this place a trendy bar,NOT a high scale restaurant.Bad loud noise (music) completely out of touch and very much disconnected from a french restaurant for 100$ a person. Unprepared service that is more for a bar than for a restaurant, they forgot the order of the dishes, forgot some dishes, brought constantly late stuff&charged 3 bottle of wine instead of 2(80$ per bottle). They said "sorry" like it was normal to make such a mistake. Terrible for winter:the external door always open directly on the dining room, freezing temperature all night.Full of 20years old girls there for a drinks.N

  • First, the outdoor garden
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 8/30/2012
First, the outdoor garden is huge and gorgeous but it made me nervous that it was completely empty at 7pm for dinner. i was surprised that the host sat us tucked away in the corner on barstools; meanwhile, the garden seating was completely empty. I asked to be moved to the garden area and they said that people have made reservations for those tables. So I left it alone. Then came 4 more parties. they tried to seat them in the same area as us (on barstools) and they all complained about the location and asked to be moved. they finally moved everyone who pushed the issue. i was pretty disappointed in the end; hence, the "fair" rating on service. Food was pretty good but not to justify the price. i was still hungry

I booked a reservation at 6pm, when the restaurant was due to open, for a meeting with a potential client. At 6pm there were no staff in the garden, and the front door was locked. There was an apparent staff meeting going on inside but no one available to seat us. I couldn't keep the client waiting, we had are meeting at another restaurant around the block. Unfortunate as I was looking forward to experiencing the restaurant for the first time. Another time, perhaps.

We went to Chateau last night because we always like Todd English restaurants. We were not disappointed. Chateau is located in the old limelight location. It has a huge outdoor seating/garden and also a wine bar where you can eat inside. We started with drinks and then had a great cheese plate, grilled octopus, a very unique heirloom tomato salad, mussels and a hanger steak. Over all the food was very good but even better was the service, decor and people watching. It had a very good looking crowd and it is clear that this is going to be a very trendy restaurant. It is perfect for a romantic evening or with a large group of friends.
