Made reservations online and although i found out later window requests are not taken online I had put it down in the notes area on the reservation. We got there about 10 minutes early and was seated at an excellent window seat within 5 minutes.
I had the filet mignon and my wife had the lump crab stuffed tilapia. My steak was cooked perfectly and was better than steaks I have had at other more expensive steak houses. My wife said her fish was excellent also. We also split the molten chocolate cake for desert and both thought it was very good but not quite hitting the top bar there.
Also liked that this is a quiet enough place to have a relaxing conversation.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMWe have been to Chart HouseWe have been to Chart House Monterey many times; this time was to celebrate our 15th anniversary. The hostess kindly seated us in a wonderful location with great views of the ocean. We even saw seals surfacing and feeding! Our service was exemplary, and we were given a personalized menu as a momento of our anniversary dnner. We ordered the special dinner which includes a starter, entree and dessert. The chopped salad was good, but we might have preferred the soup to start. The shrimp entree and tilapia entrees were both very good. And the mud pie! However in October for our 2yr wedding anniversary he booked reservations for The chart house. After one meal there I was sold. The service is outstanding! The view of the bay is beautiful and the food is delicious. We always enjoyed the ocean views, the good service and the food. I was intrigued when I discovered that there was a Chart House right next door to our hotel in Monterey ( the excellent Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa) and was curious as to whether we would enjoy it as much as we did 25 years ago. The Chart House Monterey did not disappoint and it was as enjoyable as I remembered our Southern California experiences. The food and service were excellent and the views were great, so much so that we returned for dinner a second evening. Benihanas wasa huge dissapointment. Me and my girlfriend shared a prime rib and lobster meal with mashed potatoes and shrimp scampi we also had a salad from the salad bar . Everything was amazing we loved the food and it filled us both up with leftovers and we eat. I made reservations for 2 through open table and when we got there, they held our bottle of wine for us ($20 corking fee) while we waiting in the bar for our reservation time. My boyfriend requested a window table when we got there, and also asked if they could put flowers on the table for me. They were ready for us with a window right on time, roses in the center. Such a wonderful experience, we watched otters in the bay the entire time. Food was amazing!! Our dining experience was a 10... definitely recommend this for anyone looking for a wonderful dinner with a romantic setting. The staff was friendly and did an excellent job. Some places the staff is too friendly, tries to hard, etc, but here, the staff was perfect and so was the food. The food was fresh; steak, seafood, and salads, and the portions were generous. The atmosphere and the food were very nice, while also gracious and relaxed. The chef is an artist and the food is bar-none the greatest in Monterey. The staff is beyond courteous and helpful, and go above and beyond normal service. The only downside was that the drinks and food came a bit slow...but, we did have a party of seven and the place was absolutely packed, so it is understandable - and well worth the wait. They were going to seat us at a two-top table, but my husband loves time sit next to me, so they sat us at a beautiful window table overlooking the bay of Monterey. We arrived at the restaurant on time and were seated immediately in a nice spot. However, It was PROM NIGHT in Monterey. Kids everywhere. They were cute.
Our server, Debbie, was excellent! She listened to my wife's requests and fulfilled our order quickly. I requested a replacement cut of prime rib and it was delivered by the restaurant manager immediately. It was my fault, medium /.medium well.
As always, the food was great, but that evening the music was a little distracting, but it could have been for the kids. All in the party ordered fish and all enjoyed our choices. Crab Cakes cannot be beat. The salad bar is a great deal if you want to go back after dinner and grab some fresh fruit (and Whip cream) for dessert which makes the place diabetic-friendly. And their salad bar is very nicely done, no matter what you read on other reviews. We arrived at 6pm, and the staff accommodated our early arrival and still received a "prime viewing" table by the window. Our waiter was very enjoyable and personal. He made some great recommendations for those who were undecided. We ordered "the works": Wine, appetizers, entrees, dessert. Everything was so delicious. We never felt "rushed", and even though we all ate a lot of food, our bellies felt "satisfied", not uncomfortably full.
It was a great way to celebrate Mother's Day. Chart House is a such a special treat/occasion for us (because of the distance from home), but is ALWAYS at the top of our lists of places we'd like to celebrate at.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMHigh expectations metMy family and I have been going to this Chart House for over 20 years for special occasions. Through the years the Monterey Bay view has always been spectacular, but though usually very good, the food and the service have had a few ups and downs. This visit, the service was friendly and fun, and the fresh fish we had was cooked perfectly and served deliciously. We had great drinks, especially my cucumber margeritha was outstanding.
The food was good; clam shouder and east meats west tuna for starters were both excellent. Cod with pasta was great. The scallops were nicely cooked buth the Asian beans too chewy.
A few mistakes where made though: for the entre my husband didn't have any fork or knife but had to ask for it, and they forgot our chocolate lava cake that you had to preorder since it took 30min to prepare...

From the wine main course and the dessert, everything was wonderful. The aslo have a very helpful staff. There isn't a bad seat in the house. I had been to the chart house a few times, and on this last occasion took a lady friend to the coast for her birthday. The "best of shrimp" and "peppercorn medalions" were both great dishes. Filling, with no bad elements. The ambiance was conducive to romance and refinement. My only criticism was the chocolate lava cake, the signature dessert of the chart house was a little over cooked and was solidified rather than "lava". Still delicious. The food, the service, everything was prefect. We booked the Chart House as a last minute thing and we are glad we did. They sat us right by the window overlooking Monterey bay. Watching the waves crashing, sea otters roaming around as well as tons of sail boats. Our meal was outstanding and yes it is a little pricey but well worth it.
