We arrived at the restaurant on time and were seated immediately in a nice spot. However, It was PROM NIGHT in Monterey. Kids everywhere. They were cute.
Our server, Debbie, was excellent! She listened to my wife's requests and fulfilled our order quickly. I requested a replacement cut of prime rib and it was delivered by the restaurant manager immediately. It was my fault, medium /.medium well.
As always, the food was great, but that evening the music was a little distracting, but it could have been for the kids. All in the party ordered fish and all enjoyed our choices. Crab Cakes cannot be beat. The salad bar is a great deal if you want to go back after dinner and grab some fresh fruit (and Whip cream) for dessert which makes the place diabetic-friendly. And their salad bar is very nicely done, no matter what you read on other reviews. You can even get the salad bar only for a meal.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day CelebrationThe whole experience was wonderful. Had a reservation for 7:30pm. We arrived at 6pm, and the staff accommodated our early arrival and still received a "prime viewing" table by the window. Our waiter was very enjoyable and personal. He made some great recommendations for those who were undecided. We ordered "the works": Wine, appetizers, entrees, dessert. Everything was so delicious. We never felt "rushed", and even though we all ate a lot of food, our bellies felt "satisfied", not uncomfortably full.
It was a great way to celebrate Mother's Day. Chart House is a such a special treat/occasion for us (because of the distance from home), but is ALWAYS at the top of our lists of places we'd like to celebrate at.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMHigh expectations metMy family and I have been going to this Chart House for over 20 years for special occasions. Through the years the Monterey Bay view has always been spectacular, but though usually very good, the food and the service have had a few ups and downs. This visit, the service was friendly and fun, and the fresh fish we had was cooked perfectly and served deliciously. Harbour seals were playing below us during dinner.
We had great drinks, especially my cucumber margeritha was outstanding.
The food was good; clam shouder and east meats west tuna for starters were both excellent. Cod with pasta was great. The scallops were nicely cooked buth the Asian beans too chewy.
A few mistakes where made though: for the entre my husband didn't have any fork or knife but had to ask for it, and they forgot our chocolate lava cake that you had to preorder since it took 30min to prepare...

I have never been disappointed with the food or the service. You are met at the door with a smile and a willingness to make your visit special and it goes through the entire dining experience. From the wine main course and the dessert, everything was wonderful. The aslo have a very helpful staff. There isn't a bad seat in the house. I had been to the chart house a few times, and on this last occasion took a lady friend to the coast for her birthday. The "best of shrimp" and "peppercorn medalions" were both great dishes. Filling, with no bad elements. The ambiance was conducive to romance and refinement. My only criticism was the chocolate lava cake, the signature dessert of the chart house was a little over cooked and was solidified rather than "lava". Still delicious. The food, the service, everything was prefect. We booked the Chart House as a last minute thing and we are glad we did. They sat us right by the window overlooking Monterey bay. Watching the waves crashing, sea otters roaming around as well as tons of sail boats. Our meal was outstanding and yes it is a little pricey but well worth it. When we are lucky enough to get a window seat we can watch the sea otters play, eat and swim. At times there are sea lions and various sea birds to watch as well. The food is superb. The staff is excellent as well. We celebrated our anniversary and it was very special to have ocean view table and a greeting written on our menu to bring home. Prices are more than expected, but worth it since we can afford a nice expensive dinner once a year. A quiet window table was graciously assigned - providing a magnificant view for me and my sister, in celebration of her 50th birthday. A representative from the restaurant management staff came by our table during the meal to offer a genuine welcome; and to ensure that we were having an enjoyable experience, which we most definitely were. The beautifully prepared food was nicely proportioned and absolutely delicious. We also enjoyed the generously-mixed cocktails with our appetizers and recommended Pinot Noir that paired well with both of our entrees. I can be a bit of a critic and find something wrong with just about anywhere. The only thing that was wrong with this place is the fact that I don't live closer so I can go back more often. It's nice, and fancy, but the service is not stuck up and pretentious. The atmosphere is wonderful. Beautiful views are to be had from practically every table. If that wasn't enough, the food was phenomenal. I'm normally a steak person, and not much for fish. But I had a yellow fin tuna there that was amazing. I would prefer it over a steak from most restaurants. This place is a must if you are in Monterey.
