  • "We had a couple of servers since we moved from inside to outside. Some of the wait staff were some what rude and hurried. Our main server though was very good. No clear by hostesses where to wait or that we could do outside seating on our own which is where we ended up at."

  • "Our second visit in a week. Bad experience with steak this time. The chef obviously thinks highly of himself and dislikes food sent back to the kitchen. We requested steak be cooked "medium" but it came out "medium well" overcooked with tough ends. We sent it back and the waiter brought it back saying we should try it the way it was cooked because it was cooked OK according to the chef. It was not OK, but we eat what we could so not to cause a scene. A "quality restaurant" would have "comped" the meal or offered a free dessert.We have visited many Chart House restaurants in the past, but never had this strange experience happen to us. We blame the chef, not the server for this mistake and to management for allowing it happen. Shame on you!"

  • "Service was poor and I had to ask the manager even for butter. Our meals took forever, One meal was finally brought out but without the second. I inquired after waiting several minutes and was told the meals had somehow been put on one plate. I wish the manager had come by and explained the problem. It was my first time to the Chart House to celebrate a special birthday with my girlfriend. What a disappointment for a high end restaurant."

  • "What attracted me to the Chart House in Dana Point were the pictures of the restaurant and its phenomenal view. My wife and I went there for our wedding anniversary, and the decor, ambience, and view did not disappoint. The large windows offer stunning views of the sea and the horizon, which is particularly impressive at sunset. However, the food does not match up to the restaurant's decor. The food wasn't bad--it was good, don't get me wrong, but that's all it was: "good." Their appetizers were very good, but the actual meal itself was rather bland and uninspired."

  • "Great view, great food, loved our waitress but waiting for a requested table by a window close to an hour wait. Wished they would have shown us options with an inside table. the view can still be enjoyed a little further in. This was our first visit and we didn't know. Felt we were ignored while waiting and waiting to be seated. Had to keep coming up to the desk asking were we were in line and they always acted surprised we were there."

  • "We have visited this restaurant on special occasions in the past and will not be going back except for Happy Hours which are nice. This last time, my birthday, the food was very poor: tough prime rib, stringy overcooked baked potato, greasy seafood. Our server was nice but not knowledgeable, and when we asked a question to which he didn't know the answer, he said, "I don't know" and walked away. This is not what one expects in a "fine" expensive restaurant."

  • "We eat at the Chart House when we want eat at a special place. Though the service was good, the food was mediocre at best. We were "underwhelmed". The presentation was uninspired. The plates could have had some green vegetables for color. The sea bass was tasteless and the Filet was nowhere near the steak at Ruth's Chris. We will think twice about returning."

  • "Our waitress was unfamiliar with the menu & had to leave the table several times to ask for clarification. When 1 of our party ordered a seafood dish with shrimp prepared 3 different ways, the waitress asked, "Which one do you want?" We had to explain that all three shrimp preparations were included in the dish - we actually had to explain it to her twice. The view of the harbor and salad bar were the highlights of our dinner. On top of that - I handed the valet the ticket together with the $5 fee and when he brought our car, he asked for another $5. Really?"

It's a great location with an incredible view of Dana Point Harbor, so I understand and appreciate the notion of an unhurried dining experience, but this was too slow."

  • "We always enjoy our dining experience at the Chart House and our recent trip was no exception. The views are always stunning. The service was excellent with our starter Ceasar Salad prepared with just enough dressing that it wasn't over powering. (Note: ask them to prepare normally and not pour additional dressing on top.) Our meals were served at the proper cadence, preperation, and temperature although my wife's mashed potatoes were a bit on the warm, not hot side. The chocolate molten cake finished the meal off perfectly."

  • "Took 45 mins to get our salads. Dinner took another half hour after that. Orders came out wrong, and a couple of side dishes never brought at all. Service was so slow that dinner took nearly three hours! The children were falling asleep while eating dinner. The steaks were mediocre at best."

  • "We planned dinner reservations with fireworks display in the harbor. It was a spectacular dining event. Perfect weather, perfect food and perfect friends. I would recommend the Chart House for any meal not just a special event. I will say that my husbands steak was overcooked. They took it back and cooked him a new steak. They were very apologetic for the mistake and the refired steak was perfectly cooked."

  • "I had the herb crusted salmon. It was wonderful. The service was a bit stiff (more a routine than an interaction). The major disappointment with the evening was our seating. I had requested and reserved a window seat back in January to celebrate the July 4th holiday. Our window seat was in the farthest corner, with no view of any part of the harbor for 2 of the 3 guests. I would think that reservations 6 months in advance would have had a bit more of a priority."

  • "We went on July 4th - expecting it to be a bit of a zoo. Turned out to be very busy - but very well organized. No problem with valet parking - much easier than trying to find a spot on the street. Good wine list, reasonable prices. Our group had lobster, prime rib and fish --- and all were excellent. Desserts were good too. The view for the fireworks was perfect. All around, a great night!"

We went thee other night and my steak was burnt, my husband's soup was cold and and my cocktail(sex on the beach) tasted like dirty sink water. The bread and butter was probably the best food item there. Really bummed because its a beautiful restaurant. The staff was amazing as well. Maybe we just picked a bad night?"

  • "Our server was not real engaging. It seems like he took it as a job. He would disappear. Not only that we brought in two bottles of wine and charged corkage fee on both which I think was not cool. That was a total of $40. That also took away from the experience"

  • "The Chart House was very busy with high school graduation. Valet parking was jammed and didn't have enough staff to handle all the cars. The restaurant was severely understaffed. Our waiter had to bring the drinks, take orders, clear the table between every course and deliver all the food. He was not very attentive to any of his tables. Our food came out very cold. Even our hot lava cake dessert was super cold. It was very disappointing to pay $400 for a dinner that was not at all worth it. Also, make sure if you are sitting in the bar waiting on your table to have the bartender input your drink order in the system before 6:30 to get the happy hour prices. Ours conveniently forgot and said there was nothing he could do about it."
