We seem to think of the Chart House mostly for special occasions because it just feels like a special place, but it shouldn't be restricted to just those times. Our most recent visit was Mothers Day, the first or second busiest day of the year for restaurants. We were there on Mother's Day, which must be one of their busiest days of the year. Even so, the service and food flawlessly met the restaurant's high standards. By no means did we feel rushed at any time. And the parking attendant's presenting my wife a fresh carnation when he brought our car around was a nice touch. We were seated at a table with a direct view of the ocean. It was a beautiful day capped with a show by several Dolphin playing in the waves. The view is absolutely amazing, on the ocean of Cardiff by the Sea. It was a warm clear day, the beach was calm and the view was amazing. I enjoyed my salad, I had a Chopped Salad and ordered steamed veggies. My son wasn't impressed with the Fish Tacos too much. My mother loved the Lobster Grilled Cheese sandwich. My daughter must have liked the Coconut Crunchy Shrimp, she didn't complain and ate the all the them. Our other two guests ordered the Clam Chowder. Both commented that it was one of the best chowders they had eaten in a long time. We had drinks and ate a full dinner. We spent over $200 on food and drinks. When we ordered 2 desserts, the waitress brought the one I ordered with a candle. We were charged for the birthday dessert. I think it is cheap not to give a free dessert when a group has chosen to celebrate a special occasion at your restaurant. We ate there on Easter and even though it was pretty busy,we did not feel rushed or that other diners were encroaching on our space. It was the most beautiful San Diego day and it's what makes us happy to be locals. My fish dish was perfection. However, the food was delicious and we were thus happy. Not being able to obtain a window table was also not good, but the view was nice from our table. The service was excellent and overcame our disappointment in not getting an omelet.

My only minor complaint is that my expensive martini was in a glass that was not full (come on if I am paying 11 bucks for a drink fill it to the rim please!). I had a limited special of shrimp ravioli (excellent). My husband had the blue cheese filet mignon which was great. My son had the shrimp scampi which he thoroughly enjoyed. Parking is limited to valet which is 4 bucks. Definitely a great place to celebrate life's special moments.
