Diner Reviews
  • "Beautiful restaurant with an amazing view. Our service was friendly and efficient. Food was ok but nothing special. Come here for the ambience and the view. Don't expect fantastic cuisine."

  • "As the day was a special occasion for my sister, we found the meal and service to be delectable! The added touch to acknowledge her birthday was unexpected, and a touch of class!"

  • "We took visiting family members here for dinner as a special treat. While the food was great, the service was not. Our waitress forgot to put in our appetizer orders, and forgot to bring us bread as well. When our meal arrived, we asked for the appetizers to be canceled. (The manager came out to apologize and boxed up the apps for us to take home, which was a nice gesture.) Our waitress did not come by to check on our food, see if we needed drink refills, etc. None of these are serious problems, but it definitely became a topic of conversation at the table, instead of cheerier things. While the food was delicious, I do not recommend this restaurant for a special occasion, at the risk that the poor service will overshadow the great food."

  • "I have been here about 5 times and most times were great. My last visit, we received really bad service. We waited 40 mins for bread and cold soup. We complained and received hot soup in 5 mins. Entree was fine when it came out in 1 hour. I will not be going back."

  • "Very helpful, friendly server. Thought the restaurant week menu was a little lacking in imagination, given the many interesting items on the menu, (particularly caesar salad or clam chowder for first course choices.)"

  • "The Chart House was the special spot chosen to celebrate my daughter's 40th birthday and it was a memorable evening. From the wonderful service to the souvenir "Birthday" Menus - tied up in a bow - that my daughter was able to carry home in remembrance of the night. Great food, wonderful wine, and let's not forget the Key Lime Pie for desert all contributed to a great time!"

  • "Had the filet with stuffed shrimp. The steak was very good with a great sauce. Stuffed shrimp was ok. Had the chocolate lava cake and it was outstanding! The meal was overall solid with a good view of the Potomac river."

  • "The food was delicious and so was the wait staff but the hostesses were a snooty when I asked for clarification on why they weren't serving restaurant week lunch. They also didn't advertise what they weren't not serving"

  • "My experience at the chart house was just ok. My server was nice and efficient, however I wasn't pleased with the fact that the restaurant week lunch special wasn't honored because it was Sunday even though there was no specification online that they wouldn't be serving lunch on Sunday's. Other than that it was a decent experience."

  • "The Chart House is an Old Towne Alexandria staple. Great place for any meal and the view of the Potomac river is great!"
    Dined on 8/17/2014
  • "I had a great time, but the service and the food was sub-par this time. I usually have a great time, but I think that is was extremely packed and we did not get the food or the service we were used to. Nevertheless, I love the Chart House."

  • "This place is a must on a visit to Alexandria. The food was extraordinary, the decor was impeccable, the view was breathtaking and the service was flawless. We can't wait to go back."

  • "First off the location is AWESOME. Definitely get there 20-30 minutes early before your reservation and ask for a window seat. It is WORTH THE WAIT. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner and have to say I wasn't that impressed with the main courses. The Blue Crab dip was AWESOME but the entrees were not anything special. I had the Mixed Seafood Grill and my shrimp were way over cooked. The portions were a little small and the baked potato looked like it had been hacked in half. If you order a side salad, it was like $7-$8 and it wasn't the impressive. My boyfriend had the Atlantic Salmon which was good but not great. Molten Lava cake: wasn't that spectacular. 5 stars for view/location, service, but 3 stars for food. It was too $$"

  • "Dinner was great! We had the crab tattor tots, filet medalions with stuffed shrimp, and the stuffed salmon. All very delicious. The waiter missed the cue that it was my boyfriend's birthday, but once we told him we got the birthday menu and dessert. We had a window seat at dinner, so it overlooked the water. It was beautiful, especially around sunset time."

  • "This wasn't my first time at Chart House so I expected exceptional service which I didn't get. IDK if the waiter was new or not but he was not a good waiter at all. Our order was put in wrong on top of being brought out 30-40 mins later. In the interim of waiting, we were never asked if we would like anything to drink from the bar. The manager did bring us an extra side dish and apologized for the mix up. We didn't get to finish our meals so we asked the waiter to box our sides up as well as our main dish. He returned with both our meals packed in one container(we live in separate homes) and our vegetables and potatoes were in a flemsy container that eventually broke by the time we got in the house. The food was great other than that."

  • "This was our third visit to this restaurant celebrating an anniversary. In the past we had enjoyed a dinner outside and upstairs in front of the window with a stunning view. This time we were placed inside the restaurant with tables all around. The service was very good but the noise level was much higher due to our location and the groups celebrating around us. Our food was quite salty which was a surprise from our other visits. We would visit again but perhaps not for an anniversary dinner, instead for casual dining with friends."

  • "Chart House sits right over the Potomac and as such has a great view. Very pricey but good for a special occasion."

  • "Delicious and restaurant week was awesome! The crème brulee dessert was amazing. The view was great. We booked an later afternoon dinner which was a smart choice to avoid the evening rush."

  • "A great place for special ocassions. My friends and I came here for Restaurant Week. We had to ask for the special menu, though. The Restaurant Week menu did not have much options for vegetarians. Overall, a nice place great with scenic views and good food. Our only disappointment was that the restaurant could not accommodate outside seating for us (6 in total) on such a gorgeous day. The outside tables could only fit parties of 4 people at the maximum. Combining tables was not an option either."

  • "The Chart House view in Alexandria entices one to gaze out the window for long periods, but the food and service are average with little creativity, and the Restaurant Week menu is very limited. Indeed, one must ask specifically for it to even know it exists."

  • "Great location in the heart of old town Alexandria. Food delicious with great recommendations presented. Meals well constructed with excellent attention to detail. Recommend the Chilean Sea Bass"

  • "If you want to be on the water, Chart House is a beautiful restaurant and has been well maintained over the years. The salad bar has always been a strength. But the other food items have not progressed with the very high prices. The salmon was served well done, and no temperature was requested. The broccoli was almost raw and the mashed potatoes were that dark beige from being held too long. I don't understand why a restaurant would participate in restaurant week but not present this menu? A guest has to beg for the special menu. And they feature items like short ribs, that are not on the regular menu? Doesn't make sense. The Mud Pie used to be unbelievable with a thick layer of fudge on the top. Very poor version now."

  • "We were celebrating my nephew's 17th birthday and he loved everything! Menus read "Happy Birthday" and they wished him well as soon as we arrived. We evwn scored a coveted winfow table with the water view. Our waiter was very attentive, friendly and very menu knowledgeable. The bonus was the surprise ice cream pie at the end and he sang happy birthday. The ONLY minus would be the people from the bar who wandered over into the dining area and brought their happy hour chatter. The wait staff were quick to politely guide them back to the bar area. To be fair, our reservation was for 5:30 so we landed right st happy hour on a Friday evening."

  • "Very nice water view. The food and service is good too. Plenty of table, easy to make a reservation and don't have to wait too long. I love the award winning clam chowder ! 2h parking along the streets, 2 garages near the restaurant starts with 2.5$ per hour( cheaper than the ones few blocks in the town)"

  • "Some interesting choices along with the usual seafood entrees. I tried the macadamia encrusted barramundi with sautéed green beans. The fish was delicious and not overpowered by the topping or sauces. My husband had the salmon Rockefeller and said his salmon was dry. I didn't enjoy the blue crab dip that we started with ,but my husband was a big fan. It is very, very rich"

  • "Very excited that Chart House was participating in Restaurant Week! We found it a bit peculiar that we were not given the RW menus upon being seated and when we inquired with our server/ hostess for a RW menu, there was a bit of confusion... Everything was delicious, especially the salmon. We were seated next the window, which made for a spectacular view and created a pleasant ambiance. Really enjoyed our time, but we will say that the service was pretty poor. Our server didn't seem knowledgeable in regards to the menu or alcoholic beverages. We were rushed through our starters, even though there was a solid 10+ minute gap between the time he cleared our salad plates to delivering the entree. No follow up after anything was delivered."

  • "This is a great place to go and have the best seafood in town. The scenic view inside and outside of the restaurant is great."

  • "We tried this place out last night for restaurant week and we loved it. We ended up sitting at a table right by the window, with a great view of the waterfront, which was perfect. The clam chowder was amazing, as were both the cedar plan salmon and the braised short ribs. Chuck, our waiter, was fantastic. Attentive, great recommendations, very knowledgable. I also had a Blood & Sand signature cocktail, which was superb. Overall a fantastic spot, would definitely go back again and again."

  • "We ate at this Chart House last summer so when we were going to be back in town my wife suggested we eat here again. We ordered appetizers and all was well until our meal came. My wife ordered her meal without mushrooms which the server wrote down. When the meal came it contained mushrooms. The server took it back and by the time it was returned to the table I was finished with my meal. The server apologized and that was the end. I am in the food industry and when we make a mistake we offer something extra to the customer. I guess at the Chart House this is not their policy. Not sure if we will visit the Chart House on our next visit."

  • "The chopped salad looks like some leftover green got chopped into small piece and the dressing was too little to provide any decent taste."

  • "My husband and I took four family members to dinner on Saturday night. We were seated upstairs where we were treated to a lovely view of the National Harbor looking out one window and the Capitol out the other window. All six of us enjoyed various seafood and meat meals. The cedar planked salmon, crab stuffed flounder and rib roast were all highlights. The noise level was low, allowing us up have nice conversations without having to yell across the table. Our waitress offered great suggestions, one of which was to get a molten chocolate volcano cake dessert. We shared two and everyone enjoyed the cake and vanilla ice cream and Heath bar crumbs served with it. Yum!"

  • "This was my second time here. I had reservations, but I was still made to wait with a pager as though I was a walk-in. Finally when my guest and I got to our table, they left stuff in our seats which wet the seats. They only removed the items after we asked them too. Then they didn't even wipe the seats for us until we asked 3 times. We waited a long time to get water. My food came out missing one of its side dishes and I had to ask 2 servers before it was brought out to me. The food was really good. The shrimp was cooked to perfection. The veggies were seasoned well. The desserts were very good. The bread they serve was so delicious, I asked for seconds. However, Chart House's customer service was lacking."

  • "Very busy Saturday evening. First, they'd lost our reservation, even after I'd called to confirm it earlier in the afternoon. Second, we found a used napkin and a used knife under our table, along with some left over food scraps from previous diners. Third, our server was over-taxed so, at one point, I had to get up and get a pitcher to refill the water glasses at our table. From that point on, other servers pitched in to help him out. The food was over-priced (ex., $17 for a small salad, $34 for a very small portion of fish) but good."
