  • "We always go to Charlie Gitto's on the Hill when we are in St. Louis. The best service of any restaurant we have ever visited. You are always warmly greeted and treated with the utmost respect. Your water glass never gets less than 2/3's full and the food is simply amazing!! My daughter gets the Penne Borghese every time and she is never disappointed. We ordered a cannoli cake (layer of cannoli filling sandwiched between yellow cake and chocolate cake)."

The food was perfectly prepared; Dave, our waiter, was knowledgable about the history of the restaurant, the in-house vegetable garden, the menu, and wine list. We are used to West County (Chesterfield) so were pleasantly surprised at the modest prices. We enjoyed it very much and will be back week after next. Thanks and cheers.   • "One of St. Louis top restaurants on the Hill has been serving great Italian food for a very long time. They always have great specials. This time tried the trout which was nicely prepared with delicious rice side. House special pasta was loaded with sea food and was good. Salads too were good. On other trips have enjoyed their steak and veal dishes and you cannot go wrong on the pastas."

This place epitomizes fine Italian dining & wine with superlative service & ambience. Each course is expertly prepared, the wine list is sublime & the servers full of energy & wit.   • "We came to celebrate a special occasion and I don't think we could have picked a better place! We were treated royally! Truly, it was a wonderful evening. The food was delicious and the service impeccable. We were surprised with a wonderful antipasto and a yummy dessert to share. Our entrees were cooked to perfection....Sicilian Beef and Tortolini Panna. We savored our leftovers the next night. Great service, great food, a Hill classic!"

  • "I made a last minute reservation to dine Saturday evening. The attentive service began with check in and lasted all evening. I ordered the Nunzio strip, which was delicious. The potatoes were dry, I think from sitting under a lamp, but otherwise I had no complaints. Good wine recommendation from my server, Jesse. Cannoli for dessert. I was never rushed. The entire experience was very nice."

  • "When I asked to eat at the bar because I was traveling alone on business, I was told that they were getting easy to send the young female bartender home for the evening am I must sit at the table facing the television instead. Then I probably had the worst veal saltimbocca I have ever ordered. It was covered in a gravy like sauce that I couldn't put my finger on and had large slices of cheese over the prosciutto. Instead of a side of pasta it came with a side of whipped potatoes, which looked like they were instant potatoes. no wonder why St. Louis, is considered Chicago's kid brother, it has a lot to learn about how to cook great Italian food."

We decided on Charlie Gitto's on the hill and were very satisfied with our choice. The food and service were very good and our out of town friends had a wonderful meal and experience. Shocked to see the place packed on a Monday night so I was glad we made reservations."

  • "This was a great place for our anniversary dinner. The staff go above and beyond to give exceptional service. They are quick and precise with every part of the dinner. We were especially surprised when we were given a free dessert because we happened to mention that it was our anniversary. We are definitely going back and I would recommend this place to anyone."

  • "We always go there for our anniversary and just love the food however this is the first time sitting in the main dining room. It was nice but we much prefer sitting in front near the bar. Much better ambience, lower lighting and much quieter. Have never had bad food there. One negative we have noticed over the years: while we are not dress code snobs by any means, we are a bit disappointed in the way people dress these days when dining at such a nice establishment. T shirts and tennis shoes, hoodies, sweatpants etc. have no place here. Although this is certainly not specific to Gitto's, it seems everywhere you go now."

It would not have been so bad but I did not like the sauce at all. My daughter had the chicken Parm and she liked it. I thought it was overpriced for what we got. I would not go back. To many other options in the area."

  • "We went to dinner with the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament in town - could it be any busier! The Manager, Waiter and Wait Staff never missed a step - the service was absolutely the best. The chef and staff kept up with a completely full house providing food to die for - the toasted ravioli, calimari and cesear salad was perfect. Several at our table had the specials - Grouper and the blackened beef pasta - everything was cooked to perfection, temperature of the food spot on. Could not have had a better dinner."

  • "Every time we go to St Louis my wife and I try to make it to The Hill for dinner at least once. Charlie Gitto's is a staple for Italian food in St Louis and on the hill. I try something new and even something simple as spaghetti and meatballs keeps me satisfied and full. This trip we took my in-laws, we ha a great server named Arlando (Orlando), had the original toasted ravioli's, I had a house salad (which was amazing) our dinner and canolli's for dessert. The portions were so large no one could finish their plates. What a great place to take your family no matter the occasion!"

  • "We had been driving (on business) all day when we pulled into St Louis. I asked my husband if he wanted me to go on OpenTable and book a table at Gittos. He said, let's just go to the hotel. The I'm so tired. Silence.... Wait. I really would like a chopped salad. Needless to say, we ended up at Gittos for another lovely evening. Their chopped salad really is the best anywhere. The ambience. Service. Oh! And the meatballs! It's a total experience. Glad we didn't miss it."

  • "From the minute we walked in the door the staff at Charlie Gittos were eager to make certain we had a great experience. The staff were very attentive but not overwhelming. Don, our waiter, was very knowledgeable on the vast selection of available wines. He made sure from start to finish we enjoyed ourselves. The lobster bisque is something not to be missed! Our entrees were incredible. The creme brulee was the best we have ever had.. To top off the night we were invited to tour the restaurant which included a tour of the wine cellar and kitchen. This restaurant leaves nothing to be desired and we will certainly be making it a frequent occasion. You cannot beat the price for the quality of both food and service!"
